svet.Lanka: SRK – Karan rift: Karan talks By Taran Adarsh, August 16, 2006 - 23:56 IST Not all’s well between Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. At least that’s what the gossip mongers in Mumbai would want us to believe. The [loose] talk doing the rounds of the industry is that SRK and Karan have had a major tiff. Reason: Trouble erupted soon after SRK watched KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and was upset with Karan for sidelining him in the film. With Abhishek getting interesting sequences and Rani walking away with a meatier role, SRK, the gossip mills swore, was extremely upset with Karan for giving him a raw deal in the film. Karan laughs at the rumors when I broached the topic last evening. “Shah Rukh is very happy with his role and also with the film in totality. He’s not upset positively,” the film-maker clarifies, “In fact, he’s happy that he’s got a chance to play a role that’s not stereotype. And also a role that he hadn’t essayed earlier. Not just SRK, each member of the cast is more than proud of K.A.N.K.” But how did these rumors originate in the first place? “A section of the trade is indulging in loose talk. Instead of encouraging a film from the fraternity, they are trying to pull it down by sending rubbish text-messages. I seriously feel I’ve become a veteran listening to all the muck being spread about my films. The industry wrote off KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM in their initial weeks. It doesn’t bother me anymore,” Karan hits back. KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA too has had its share of back-biting. “The business of the film should silence the detractors. See, KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is not the usual Karan Johar film. It’s raked up a lot of debates and discussions. I knew it all along that it would take time for the film to settle down. It’s an unusual film that comes as a jolt when you watch it the first time. It’s a reflection of reality, it’s not about unreal worlds. And a film like this grows with time,” he smiles.

Soniya: 'I'm not advocating affairs' SUBHASH K JHA [ 16 Aug, 2006 2006hrs ISTTIMES NEWS NETWORK ] Karan Johar responds to criticism on the core theme of infidelity in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Are you endorsing infidelity with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK)? An angry mother came up to me after seeing the film. 'My daughter recently got divorced. I took her out to see a Karan Johar film to cheer her up. But look at what you made her go through!' She was upset. But I think I had made a point. I don't claim to be an expert on marriage nor am I endorsing anything. KANK is my take on what happens when people get married for the wrong reason. The true foundation of an enduring marriage is love. If that love isn't there, things can go wrong at any time in a marriage. That's what happens in KANK. People are reacting vehemently to the Shah Rukh-Rani extra-marital affair. (забавная ошибка) Every married person sees a bit of him or herself in these characters. KANK is like watching an experience rather than watching a film. Everyone wants to know why Rani doesn't love Abhishek's character. But she doesn't! I can point to a dozen marriages where the perfect spouse leaves their partner. I'm not advocating women to have an affair. But you don't need to be in a loveless marriage. Surely there're obligations in a marriage that go beyond self-gratification? I agree. But children shouldn't be made an excuse to keep a dead marriage going. Preity says, 'I'm not one of those who accept defeat in life by making children their weakness. I'm not that weak.' A Karan Johar film influences a large section of people... And I haven't been irresponsible towards my audience. The message is, marry for the right reason. And if you're in a miserable marriage you're doing wrong to two people. I'd love our women to become more independent and careerminded so that they could have a life of their own even after a broken marriage. Please... treat marriage as a venerable institution which you visit only when you're sure of yourself. But you are unmarried. How do you know the dos and don'ts of marriages? I'm not married. But I'm an observer of human relationships. And it's my right to use those observations as and how I wish. I know there will be various debates. I welcome them.

я не могу перестать о нем думать... is this magic of Karan Johar?

Soniya: Karan Johar’s latest Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was shot mainly in and around New York City. And America, especially Indians in America appear to have been extremely receptive of the film in its opening weekend in the US. KANK collected nearly $1.4 million in that period, a new record for any Bollywood film ever released in North America. It also averaged over $21,000 per screen. That makes it a bona fide blockbuster when it comes to Hindi films in America. The previous record, according to Gitesh Pandya, editor of Boxofficeguru.com was also held by a Karan Johar movie – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, which had opened at $1 million in 2001. KANK was at number 17 on the US box office charts, while the Will Ferrell comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby stayed at number one and Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center debuted at number 3. by Anirudh Bhattacharyya, South Asia World.

knopa: 'K.A.N.K.' - The Verdict When was the last time a film [repeat, any film] enjoyed unanimously and universally positive reports? SHOLAY? It was scorned. HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN? It was ridiculed. VEER-ZAARA? It was written off. NO ENTRY? It was scoffed at. FANAA? It was sneered at. PHIR HERA PHERI? It was derided. KRRISH? It was mocked at. Now KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA faces the flak. So what's new? Nothing. It's the same old story. The moment a big film hits the screens, a section of the film industry [also include some pseudo journos with zero knowledge of film-making and business] has a constipated look on their faces. Text messages degrading the film fly left, right and centre. 'It wouldn't sustain beyond Friday', 'Bakwas hain', 'The director has lost it', 'Paisa kamaya, par reputation khatam'… Haven't we heard all this and more [the nastiest of talk] before? Let's not forget, a tree which bears fruits is always stoned. Jo hain naamwala, wohi to badnaam hain. But the paying public knows what's best for them… The 'reports' are one thing, the box-office outcome is another. It doesn't really matter what a section of the industry or audience feels about a film. We ought to respect everyone's opinion, whether good or bad, but let's not turn a blind eye to the business of a film. Looking at the high stakes today, when films are sold for millions of rupees, when survival is of paramount importance, who needs awards, five star ratings from reviewers who only have an eye for dark films/art house cinema and fake appreciation? We need box-office rewards! The historic first week billing of KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is a slap on the faces of all 'soothsayers' who predicted doomsday for the film at the box-office. In fact, the record-breaking initial weekend and the holidays on weekdays has infused life all over again in the veins of the distribution and exhibition sectors. KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is a sign of progressive cinema. After my review on the film appeared on IndiaFM two days before the release, a few 'well wishers' of Karan Johar sounded so low over the phone as though they had just returned from a funeral. In fact, a prominent producer had the gall to tell me, “Aisi progressive filmein Hindustan mein kabhi nahin chal sakti. Its rejection is certain.” Imagine, no one from the industry had even watched the film, but were abusing it nonetheless. Why are we so skeptical when it comes to embracing bold themes? Why should Hindi cinema be confined to those three/four stories that are as old as the hills? Why shouldn't we welcome changes? And when a film dares to defy the stereotype and works at the ticket window, shouldn't we feel euphoric? Back to KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA business. The film is doing exceedingly well, with business at an all-time high at multiplexes. It's extra-ordinary at big centres, while its business is slightly lower at smaller towns. But the overall first week billing is superb. Relax Karan, it's the time to disco!

Not all extra-marital affairs end the way it does in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK). Take the case of a Thane resident who stabbed and shot his wife because she did not allow him to marry another girl he loved. The irony is that the incident took place after the couple had just watched KANK . The victim Reshma (27) is fighting for her life in Sion Hospital. Her husband Shadaf Anwar Khan (32), a rickshaw driver, is absconding. THE COUPLE Shadaf got married to Reshma nine years ago. They have two kids Salma (9) and Salim (2). The family lives in Rabodi area. For the past year, Shadaf had reportedly been seeing a girl working as a waitress in a local bar and wanted to marry her. But Reshma refused to give her consent. Recently, she moved out of Shadaf’s house with the children and was living in Gajanan Chawl on Bunderpada Road in Kalyan. WHAT HAPPENED In her statement to the police, Reshma said, “On Saturday evening, Shadaf came to my place along with his friends Raju and Sanjay. He convinced me that he had dropped the idea of getting married to that bar girl. He had brought movie tickets for the late night show of KANK at Cinemax mall in Thane. He asked me to leave the children at home.” Thrilled at the change in her husband, Reshma happily agreed. “After the movie, Shadaf and his friends were driving me back to Kalyan in a rickshaw. Near Diva village, Shadaf suddenly stopped his auto and pulled me out. Before I could understand what was happening, he attacked me with some sharp weapon,” said Reshma. She sustained injuries on her face and chest, and also took a bullet in her stomach. LEFT FOR DEAD Presuming her to be dead, Shadaf and his friends allegedly dumped Reshma on the Mumbai-Agra highway. But after some time, perhaps due to the rain, Reshma regained consciousness. Despite her injuries, she managed to shout for help and draw the attention of passers-by, who then informed the nearby Narpoli police station. Reshma was rushed to Thane Civil Hospital, but later shifted to Sion Hospital as her condition was critical. THE KANK CONNECTION Sub-inspector D S Kengaje said, “Shadaf and his friends are absconding. We have registered a case of attempt to murder against them.” Police suspect Sadaf wanted Reshma to watch KANK so she would allow him to marry his girlfriend. “We will be able to verify this only after arresting him,” Kengaje said.

Lo: Soniya пишет: a rickshaw driver дурдом на выезде
