wichy: Отсюда Much against everyone’s expectations Aamir is far from sitting and relaxing after leaving no stone unturned with Taare Zameen Par. One will now find him channeling all his energies towards launching his nephew, Imraan in Jaane Tu, which is to be directed by Abbas Tyrewala. Besides this, he is also working on Delhi Belly, an action comedy that’s based in Delhi. This time, Aamir will only produce and not direct it. The film will be made in English and is aimed at international audiences. Moreover, if sources are to be believed, then, a Swedish guy will direct this film, with a crew based in US and Europe. Aamir met the director during the making of Taare Zameen Par.

Delivering good output is Mr. Perfectionist’s (Aamir Khan) habit. Actor-Singer-Producer-and now a Director, seriously this level-headed person has left no arena untouched. His contribution towards Indian cinema not only changed the scenario of films and filmmaking but also unfastened the locked doors to enter Oscars and constant effort to showcase the Indian films to compete the international market of films. With his directorial debut, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Aamir has again proved he is maestro of Cinema; his perfection gets extended to direction also. In conversation with all-rounder Aamir khan: TZP is your first film as a director; tell us how was the overall experience? The overall experience was good. I enjoyed directing as much as I enjoyed acting. For me work should be enjoying and that keeps me going. Were you scared whether the film will fetch you the equal amount of appreciation as your earlier films did? Yes, I was nervous, like any other new director. You are always surrounded by the anxiety about the kind of response that will be fetched. Appreciation is always acceptable and welcomed with open arms but as a producer I see that my films also have to do economically well. Are you a result-oriented person? For me process is more important, joyful. I like to have my entire concentration on the process right from step 1. It gives me pleasure. Are you planning to continue with direction? Yes obviously, I’ll continue with direction. Ideally if I am directing I won’t get into acting. I concentrate to put my efforts on one task at a time, I am not a man of multitasking, I enjoy the way I work and follow each step carefully after my past. TZP is simple without any big element to go ahead & market with (apart from you) Yes, it’s a very simple film with a simple cast. When I choose any particular film, I look from audience point of view, I observe a lot, what makes them happy or cry or rejoice, their reactions to situations. I rather look on the practical aspect of movie to promote; my ability to clearly communicate with audience in a story format is my strength. You are considered a trendsetter, a visionary, changing scenario of Indian cinema, how do you manage to do different things every time? Also what do want say about current trend of cinema in Bollywood? See, I don’t do different things; I try to do it in a different manner. I think every person should follow his/her dream and try and make it possible to create an ability to achieve it backed by its practicality. I think, what has really changed is the audience. They want to see different kind of films. They want variety. Today’s audience have matured and are practical, they don’t want the same old stuff to be played, that’s why films with unusual subject, films with some freshness are being hugely appreciated and accepted. You are always in news for maintaining different looks for your movies, what is the next new look in your upcoming movies? You’ll see a bald man in my new film (laughs), the title of the film (remake of Tamil film Gajni) is yet to be finalized. How’s the overall response for TZP? In Gujarat? Within industry? The response has really turned out really good. I am overwhelmed by the kind of response I am getting from my fans and the audience in general. The response that I have got for my very first directorial film is like a dream response. It’s been appreciated by all ages; from teenagers to youth to parents to oldies to teachers. Well, I was confident about this subject, but was not expecting such a mass response. Within industry almost everyone esteemed and acclaimed my work David Dhawan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rakesh Roshan and many others prized my efforts through their appreciation. If not actor what you would love to have been? If not actor then I would have loved to be a sportsperson, I was a topper in lawn tennis at state level (played for Maharashtra) and I also love teaching, I would love to have a film school with small number of students who wants to know everything about filmmaking. Sequel to SARFAROSH Yes, I am interested to make a sequel of SARFAROSH as the characters are very much there to get utilized (strong characters). John Mathew Mathan (director of SARFAROSH) is also thinking on the same. We might come out with its sequel, but no fixed plans as yet.

Actor perfectionist Aamir Khan is presently enjoying the critical and commercial success of his directorial debut venture, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. And there is more reason for him to celebrate, because after the tax exemption in Delhi, his movie has been declared tax-free in Bombay, too. Not a believer in resting on past laurels, Aamir is now focusing on his next project, DELHI BELLY, a film to be made in English and for the International market. Come March and Aamir will launch DELHI BELLY, which will feature Indian actors but will have some key foreign crew as well. As per Aamir himself, Robert Nylund, a young and talented director from Sweden will lead the team of DELHI BELLY. (Robert Nylund).

wichy: отсюда Aamir Khan was seriously considering playing a role in his next production, Delhi Belly. Directed by Swedish director Robert Nylund, the film is set in New Delhi and tells an intriguing story with a set of characters. The character that Aamir was very keen on essaying in the film is Nitin. However, Aamir has decided against playing the character because he had promised his children -- Junaid and Aira -- a month-long holiday after he wraps shooting for the Ghajini remake. This is the period when Delhi Belly hits the floors and bulk dates of Aamir would have been required. "Delhi Belly is one script that Aamir simply loves and decided to produce it. He was really keen on playing a character called Nitin in the film but it would have required him to cancel or postpone his long-pending holiday which he had promised his children," informs our source. Aamir now has started shooting for the remake of Ghajini, an action thriller which is releasing later this year. The pre-production work on the film Delhi Belly is currently under way in Delhi. It is an action-comedy based in Delhi and will be made in English. Some portions of the film are likely to be shot at ND Studios in Karjat. Aamir Khan also plans to release the film internationally. Initially, there were reports about Akshat Varma, who is also the writer of the film directing the film but now it is learnt that Swedish director Robert Nylund will be directing the film with Akshat as the associate director and writer of the film.

Exuding confidence that Indian filmmakers can win over western audiences if they aim to do so, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan says corporate houses entering the world of entertainment should be given time to mature. "I can't think of any Indian filmmaker who has made films for international audience. For years we are making films for our audience and we have a very healthy audience. However, our producers have created impact with their films without actually aiming to do so - for instance Raj Kapoor," Aamir said while speaking at the session, "Entertainment Next", at the India Today Conclave 2008 here Saturday. "If we really want to entertain the world audience, then first you have to decide to (do) that. I am sure we can do it," added the actor-director who surprises his fans and the film fraternity by making films on the most unconventional scripts. His hit directorial debut "Taare Zameen Per", about childcare, is the recent example of his creative excellence. "I think it will happen organically. The form of Indian cinema is very dear to me and by retaining the same form I would like to entertain the international audience," he said. Commenting on the corporate houses in filmmaking, he said: "Suddenly a lot of corporates have come up. There is a lot of money but they don't know what to do with the money. The bosses in a corporate house, who green light a project, should have creative experience. "The corporates are just babies. I feel the day they will have the ability to identify a good script, I would say they have matured and have arrived." The actor also stressed that people today need a team of energetic young people who aren't actually directing a film but can oversee the creative work. "I also think that these youngsters should be sent to a film school first to make them understand what film business is all about," he added. When asked how he chooses his scripts, Aamir said: "I follow my gut feeling. When I'm reading a script or hearing a script, I see myself as the audience and if the script moves me and excites me, then I decide to be a part of it." Hollywood studios like Sony Pictures have started venturing into India's film industry. "These studios are not interested in taking our films to the West. They just want to make films in India for Indians," said Aamir. He also rued the fact that no investment is made in research and development of creative content in India.

Aamir Khan seriously injured himself while shooting for his upcoming film Ghajini on Wednesday at Ramuji Rao Studios, Hyderabad. The incident took place around 11.30 am and the film's shooting has been indefinitely postponed. Our source from the sets says, "Aamir Khan was shooting since 7 am in the morning. As he had to shoot intense action scenes, he wanted to finish the tougher sequences in the morning. Around 11 am Aamir was shooting for a scene where he had to pick up a very bulky man and throw him against the wall. Unfortunately, Aamir pulled his hamstring muscle while he was enacting the action scene. Aamir just sat down and was unable to get up as he was in severe pain. Immediately, a physiotherapist was called and he has been taking care of Aamir's injury since yesterday." When contacted AR Murgadoss, director of Ghajini confirms and says, "Since the last couple of days, we have been shooting some of the most complex action sequences and Aamir got injured while shooting yesterday morning. We are really concerned about his well being. He is in a lot of pain and we have cancelled shooting as of now. We will only resume shooting after the doctor feels that Aamir is fit to get back to work." As a part of his training for the film, Aamir Khan had been undergoing intense physical training for four hours every day for over a year before he began shooting for the film. Ghajini will release on October 1, 2008.

Life has come a full circle for Aamir Khan. Twenty years after his uncle Nasir Hussain launched him in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, the actor pays it forward by launching Imran Khan, grandson of Nasir Hussain, in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Here, Aamir does some hard-talking about being a diehard professional, clashing dates with another big film and his brother Faizal Launching your nephew Imran Khan is quite an emotional gesture. (Smiles) I don't think I am launching Imranâ at least it didn't start that way. But yes, there is certainly an emotional connect. I actually trained under chachajaan for four years as an assistant. Then he produced Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, my launch film. Now, 20 years later, Imran is acting and I am producing the film. So it has kind of come a full circle. Chachajaan would have been very happy today had he been alive. Which is why I have dedicated the film to him. That sounds like an emotional person speaking. I guess I am. I was very close to chachajaan since we lived close togetherâ my dad and him. Chachajaan was next door, so I have spent half my life at chachajaan's house. He was wonderful human being, extremely talented, and loving with a great sense of humour. He used to keep us in splits. And so you returned the favour with Jaane Tuâ Ya Jaane Na when Abbas Tyrewala approached you with the project. Ya, originally Jhamu (Sughand) was producing it. That's why I was saying that this film didn't originate with the thought that we should launch Imran. My nephew found his own way. Jhamu had some financial trouble so he couldn't make the film. When the project came to me, I liked the script. I spent some time with Abbas, I was comfortable with the thought that he was the director. Then I saw the casting tapes. I needed to see whether Imran suited the part. Then you took up the project. Yes, I did. But I wasn't looking at it emotionally when I was deciding. The decision was based on whether this was, indeed, the film that I would want to produce under my banner? Is this the director I trust? Is Imran appropriate for the part? And he was? If he wasn't he shouldn't be in the film. (Smiles) I'm particular about what I put my name to. I had to satisfy myself that this is the film I wanted to produce, independent of the fact whether Imran is in it or not. Now that he is a part of the film, I would like to help as much to promote him. Then it's up to him how he takes it forward because each one of us has to find our own way and create our own relationship with the audience. So it was the professional Aamir and not the emotional one in act. When I was producing the film? Yes. Yes, it was. I'm always there for him. But I think professionally, I can't be dishonest to myself or to my audience. Only if the person deserves to be in the film, then he will be. As an emotional person, I will do whatever I can for that person in every which way. For example, Ashu is a friend of mine but I didn't produce Lagaan because he is a friend; I produced it because I liked the script. I wasn't doing him a favour. Okay, so how did you manage to get your cousin Mansoor Khan back from oblivion? (Laughs) Some smooth emotional blackmail. Mansoor has moved away from filmmaking. When I took over Jaane Tu as a producer I clearly didn't have the time to shoulder my responsibility. I had to get someone who could, and Mansoor is someone I trust completely. The tough task was convincing him. As it turned out, it wasn't so tough. (Laughs) Mansoor responded spontaneously. He said, 'Okay I will come over and help'. That was nice of him. Does that mean that you now have your own camp of the Khan clan? (Laughs) No, no. It's not that. Mansoor is least interested in films. In fact, he has gone back already. So there is certainly no clique forming here. You were to do a cameo in the film. Abbas was keen, so was I. But I didn't have the time. I was directing Taare Zameen Par. It's not because your presence would have taken the charm from your nephew? No.. no.. if I can take away the charm from Imran by playing a cameo than he probably doesn't have it in him. That was not the fear at all. I think Imran is extremely talented and has great potential. There were talks about the professional Aamir taking charge of the editing while Abbas couldn't sit at the table. Untrueâ there is no truth to this at all. But you do go at a project with single-minded dedication Ya, I am that way but that doesn't mean that I interfere in areas that aren't my responsibility. As a producer it is my responsibility to ensure that the film comes out well and it also means that I should have sat with Abbas for the editing. But as it turned out, I didn't need to. Abbas has done a good job of directing the film. No inputs from you at all? Well, when Abbas did the first cut, we discussed the pros and cons of the film. He went back to the editing table to correct whatever he needed to. That's a normal processâ And usually I do sit in on the edit because my directors invite me to. They have faith in my creative instinct. Like in Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, even Fanaa. But that doesn't mean they don't know their job. It's because they have a healthy respect for me. In fact, for Jaane Tu I haven't sat on the edit. (Laughs). Okay, some time ago, at a public appearance you wore a T-shirt which said July 4th. Did I? You did. Actually I have no idea what's written on most of the T-shirts I wear. So I am unaware that July 4th was written on it. I don't hardsell my films. People should decide whether they should see the film or not. It's my responsibility as a producer to inform people about the film, and when it's releasing through publicity and interviews like this. But I don't tell them you must come and see my film. That's not my style. Is the decision to pitch Imran against another newcomer on the 4th of July a conscious one? When a film is good, it doesn't matter which film it's coming with. And when a film is not good, it doesn't matter which film it's coming out with. Our marketing team felt this was the right date to release the movie. In fact, at this time of the year, with so many films coming out, I don't think any film can come out in an open week. There have been so many examples of films coming out together and doing well Gadar and Lagaan and, as recently, TZP and Welcome. So this is not a fear I have. If you are talking about Harry Baweja, then well, he is a friend and I have only the best wishes for him and his son Harman. I have seen the promos and they look good. I find Harman extremely confident and he dances well. It seems like he has a bright future. So I don't think there is any need for them to worry or for us to worry. But Harry Baweja called you? He did... he did call up. And I did try it took me a week to change the date. So you did consider changing the date? I did. Obviously what he was saying made sense. Ideally the films should not release on the same day. I tried to see if Jaane Tu could come on some other day but I realised the dates weren't working for us. So it took me a week to let him know that 'Harry it's not possible for us to shift the date'. (Pauses) And if it really disturbs someone than they can also shift, you know. It's a free country. They can decide what they want to do. (Adding quickly) I am not asking them to shift. On AR Rahman getting royalty for Jaane Tu.. (interrupts) As far as my understanding with AR or the other people I work with goes, I don't discuss their remuneration publicly. That's not right. It's not about remunerations. It's about a music composer getting royalties for a film for the first time in the industry. You are assuming we are giving him royalties. You are saying you are not? No, I am not saying I am not. I am saying I don't discuss what transactions have happened with my colleagues. It's not ethical. But you did write on Shah Rukh on your blog? Was that ethical? Shah Rukh and I have a relationship above all this. In fact I am happy that we share a relationship where he feels okay about cracking a joke on me on a public platform. He knows I won't get upset. In fact, I would probably laugh about it and vise versa. Both of us have that kind of a relationship. We can enjoy the fact that we are comfortable with each other and won't get hurt. I have spoken to him and he is not at all upset with what I have said, just like I haven't been upset about what he has said in the past. That means you have a sense of humour. I would like to think I am a funny guy. I don't know what others think. When people have the ability to laugh at themselves or even during tough situation even when you are in trouble, that's a great quality to have. Just like your perfectionist quality. That I actually learnt from a college I went to... (Laughs) Tell us the name (Laughs again) You know I think too much is made about me being a perfectionist. I just try and do good work. Nothing can be perfect in life. I just try to make it somewhat perfect. Okay, so tell us why are you doing a remake film Gajini? Because I liked the original so I felt like doing it. Will it be frame to frame similar? It's 90 per cent as per the original except those parts were the director (AR Murugadoss) felt that he wanted to improve certain things. Since he is getting a second chance he wanted to make some changes in the script. Around 80 to 90 per cent is original. About 10-15 per cent script is changed. The hairstyle isn't Well, this hairstyle I absolutely take no credit for. As you know this film was made in Tamil. Surya was acting in it and this is the hairstyle he has in the film. So, I would say Murugadoss and Surya have designed this look for the original. I am using the same look. Even the scar and all that is there in the original. This is one film that I can't take any credit for. How about doing a cop role, like ACP Rathore in Sarfarosh? I would love to. I haven't come across a script where I am playing a cop. Sarfarosh was a very good film. In fact, I suggested to John Mathew Matthan that he should write a sequel to it. I hope he does that. Seriously suggested? (Smiles) Seriously suggested. It depends on how the script turns out and all that. But Sarfarosh is a film that can have a sequel. You give chances to first time directors. How do you quality control? By selecting people who are dynamic. Not those who get intimidated by you? (Laughs) No, certainly not. If I intimidate them, then they are not worth their weight. Abhinay Deo, who is one of the foremost talented persons in the country, is directing Delhi Belly and I have seen some of his works. It's stunningly good. He loves the script and he has complete control of the project. He is taking all big decisions at the time. What's happening to Kiran's script. She has written a script that I love actually. She will be directing and producing it as well. The way she is going about it, I think she will make a lovely filmmaker. (Smiles) About a news report that said you haven't invited your brother Faizal for the premiere of Jaane Tu, anything you would like to say? (Sternly) I would say it's none of your concern. Why don't you want to speak about it? (Softens up) Some things are close to my heart and I don't discuss them on a public platform. It doesn't concern anyone; it concerns me. I have too much regard in my heart for people who are close to me. And I value them. I find it tough to talk about them publicly. That's the best way I can put it. Even when it comes to clearing your name? Ya, even when it comes to that. People can make up their own mind.

Latest sensation Imraan Khan is having a fabulous 2008. The actors debut film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is still rocking the cinema halls and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Imraan has become a heartthrob amongst the younger generation. It was in the year 1988 when his uncle Aamir too created a same kind of magic with his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. It seems uncle Aamir is recollecting that golden moment and is very happy with the remarkable response his nephew’s first film is receiving. Aamir has not only gifted Imraan an opportunity to act in his forthcoming film Delhi Belly but recently he also presented Imram the latest model of BMW. The car costs about Rs. 50 lakhs and is white in color. Well, Imraan we hope you enjoy a nice long drive in this romantic monsoon season. But please do let us know the lucky gal who would be seated next to you. Delhi Belly.

wichy: отсюда With Aamir and Salman Khan bonding big time, the long-lost friends have chosen to work together again. Their comeback vehicle as a pair will be a sequel to their 1994-cult movie, Andaz Apna Apna. The film will be produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi (who directed the earlier version). Says a source, “Aamir has already spoken to Santoshi about the sequel and the latter has loved the idea of directing Aamir and Salman together again.” When contacted, Santoshi confirmed that Aamir had spoken to him about this. He said, “In fact, Aamir has been talking about this to me for some time now. I will be writing the script. However, it won't be a sequel. Let's leave the details for a later date. It's too early to talk about it now.” When we asked Santoshi what he thought of Aamir as a producer, Santoshi replied, “Aamir is a friend and a fantastic producer. He is the right guy for producing this film.” We wonder if Aamir and Santoshi will rope in the earlier heroines Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor, or will settle for younger heroines.

To simply it further, Aamir has now been roped in as the Brand Ambassador by the Indian Tourism Ministry to be the face of its massive brand campaign 'Incredible India', with the initiative of showcasing India's rich heritage and culture and the famous message of 'Athithi Devo Bhava' (Guest is God). What's really heartening to know is the fact that Aamir, who is known for his whopping remunerations as a Brand Ambassador, has agreed to do this campaign for free. Though the details of the campaign are still being worked on, Aamir is very happy to be a part of this campaign and said that if there are some discrepancies that obstruct our country's hospitality, then, we should take steps to sensitise people. Aamir also added that we should ensure that those who visit our country must be protected and that we, as Indians, should make them feel at home and ensure that that they have a good time and come back again. We are sure that with Aamir at the helm of things for tourism promotions, the tourists will definitely come back asking for more. What say Aamir!

Aamir Khan knows how to juggle many roles, the actor-director was recently announced the brand ambassador for Incredible India's Atithi Devo Bhava campaign. And now Aamir all set to groom tourists guides and taxi drivers. Along with being the face of Incredible India, Aamir will now train tourist guides and taxi drivers as part of the Atithi Devo Bhava campaign. Aamir will conduct training sessions with guides and taxi drivers on personal grooming and appropriate behaviour. The actor will also now involve himself in an anti-garbage campaign. Educating people about not dumping and writing graffiti on walls. However, Aamir is not alone in this task, as filmmaker Rakeysh Mehra and lyricist Prasoon Joshi will be joining him for the campaign too. And in order make the campaign a mass movement, an address will be created where people can send their ideas or write to Aamir Khan directly on how to tackle the menace of 'hostility towards foreigners."

A film title being based on its lead character is not a new thing. However, Aamir Khan believes in doing things differently. Interestingly, his upcoming film Ghajini is named after the villain of the film. Our source says, “Initially, Aamir’s character in the film was called Ghajini. However, after shooting a major portion of the film, Aamir realised that the protagonist being called Ghajini might not be good for the film. He thought that there is a possibility of the audience relating the hero’s name to Mahmud of Ghazni, who was a notorious historical figure. That’s when Aamir decided to call the villain of the film Ghajini. However, Aamir is yet to decide the name of his character in the film. The key villain’s role is being played by Pradeep Singh Rawat who will now be called Ghajini in the film, which is a remake of the Tamil film by the same title. ” However a source close to Ghajini’s director A Murgadoss says, “Aamir’s decision to name the villain Ghajini is not due to any historical reason. In the Tamil film, the hero was called Ghajini which means strong and powerful. However, in the Hindi version the villain will be called Ghajini.” Know your history Mahmud of Ghazni was the son of a Turkish slave, who in 977 became ruler of Ghazna. When Mahmud ascended the throne in 998 at the age of 27, he already showed remarkable administrative ability and statesmanship. The young and ambitious Mahmud aspired to be a great monarch, and in more than 20 successful expeditions he amassed the wealth with which to lay the foundation of a vast empire in India. Mahmud is said to have led about 17 such expeditions. Mahmud’s ferocity and barbarism was notorious. In 1024 he set out on his last famous expedition to the southern coast of Kathiawar along the Arabian Sea, where he ransacked the city of Somnath.
