joy: чё то темку закрыли, ну продолжим по новому любить и вспоминать
joy: я танцора пасмарел в 17 лет, да и было дело в 1984м. но до этого до дыр заслушал кассету привезённую из Тбилиси, (во время показа фестивальных фильмов видимо кто то из рубки записал песни из фильма). в запись папали и некоторые диалоги переведёные простуженым толь грузином толь армянином. начало канешно с титров, там музыка зыканская же, и по фону музыки голос гнусаво: ИНДИЙСЧКАЯ КИНОКАМПАНИЯ ФИЛЬМОЛЕОСТУДИО (как сейчас всё помню, жаль кассетка не сохранилась)ПРЕДСТАВЛЯЕТ ТАНЦОР ДИСКО, В ГЛ. РОЛИ МИТХУН ЧАКРАБОРТИ, В ОСТАЛЬНЫХ РОЛЛЛЯХ (тут голос слеХка заикнулся) РАДЖЕШ КАХАННА, ГИТА СИДАР, КАЛПАНА АИР, БАППИ АЛАХИРИ (вот и баппи в роли вписали). боже, как мне хотелось узнать почему героиня кричала после песни ДЖИММИ ДЖИММИ, я ненавижу тебя джимми. (эта песня так ваще до дыр затёрлась) но особливо нравилась песня про пусть не хватит гроша... правда когда в кинотеатре смарел потом то удевлялся, толь музыка не поспевала за раджешем толь он за музыкой. помните была такая накладочка? Ом Шивпури сразу так не полюбил на все последующие фильмы., про калпану сначало подумал, чТО ЗА ЛОШАДЬ? про импресарио Джимми подумал, что не могли покрасивше дятьку найти? девчёнкам в школе взахлёб рассказывал про кино. да ёщё красочно. (всегда когда привозили кино новое, девчата меня командировали, я смарел, рассказывал и они решали стоит сматреть или не стоит). девчонки просто изнывали от нетерпения. (пока до нашего колхоза под названием НИЖНИЕ КОНЕЧНОСТИ дойдёт то новое кино. я ж вечно самый первый на всё новое за 20 км в соседний город ездил). собирались у меня и слушали вожделённо : джимми джимми джимми, печаль твоя пройдёт..... Блин! книгу чтоль сесть написать?

Wolf: Меня "Танцор" зацепил после просмотра 3-4 го раза только. Вот тогда и сорвало крышу окончательно. Это было 22 года назад.

joy: и пестни какие необычные для того времени были (хотя в принципе я к тому времени успел услышать знаменитую песню Уши Утхуп РАМБА ХО ХО САМБА ХО ХО, тоже в стиле диско) а тут так весь филем музыкальный (что для меня ваще не маловажно (см.пердыдущие мои сообщения о записях в титраТках) песня на песне так сказать и пестней погоняет. про наряды и костюмы ваще молчу. единственно бомбанулся от наряда Калпаны весь в диких рюшках такой (типа от итальянского театра кукол) и ещё тётки на сцене в трусах и сланцах. Помню как все девчёнки разом признали знаменитые индийские джинсы АВИС в которых девушка из толпы Ниша (миша???) выползла к Митяю на сцену, когда он её позвал ЭЙ ТЫ БЬЮТИФУЛка!!!! КОМ ЦУ МИР! Ко времени короче филем был. Да он и сейчас для меня актуален. Люблю его больше чем танцуя. Да и штанцы от Ким с разрезом от бёдер щас опять в моде....

Все понятно - мода и запреты и проч. проч. ,но это не оправдывает такой всеобщей наркозависимости от Танцора И вы посмотрите, как у некоторых мозги повернулись - скока лет прошло, а дурман остался!!!

Rene: Интересная темка... А я посмотрела "Танцора" первый раз, когда ещё толком не увлекалась... А потом, помню, в Питере его не показывали больше. А через пару лет, когда я уже вовсю бегала по кинотеатрам, привезли "Танцор" и глубокую Лен.область. Вот туда мы всей огромной тусовкой и поехали...я была вся в предвкушении чего-то ОСОБЕННОГО...Помнила-то я отрывочно всё... вышла из кинотеатра на подгибающихся ногах и "больная на всю голову" Был это 1987 год. насклько я помню.... Ну и потом стали вовсю крутить его по Питеру, а мы с упоением бегать в кино Сколько раз я ходила со своими "Карпатами-2" (мне как раз на ДР магнитофон подарили) записывать песни...млин...То во время песни какие-то "левые" начнут болтать. то кашлять. то ржать... как же мы бесились... А ещё конечно ходили с фотиками и фоткали с экрана, а потом проявляли и печатали, конечно же сами, и увеличитель был куплен для этого дела Кстати, у меня до сих пор пачечка должна лежать в чемодане с фотками старыми. Это мне сделали фотки размера 3х4 с множества плёнок, так что получилось чуть ли не покадрово многие моменты... А между прочим, "штаны в обтяжку и ботфорты золотые" я никогда на себя не хотела одеть А вот о кофтейке Митхуна из последней песни просто мечтала...нравилась она мне сильно
queen79: alla Rene "штаны в обтяжку и ботфорты золотые" я никогда на себя не хотела одеть эх...немодные вы были деффки... да, я что хочу добавить,раз пошла такая тема, мой сын ( ему сейчас 8 лет) подсел на "Танцора" два года назад,когда увидел по телеку ( тогда по ТНТ начали крутить старые инд.фильмы).Гостил он тогда у бабушки, и она ему рассказала,как его мама( т.е. я) сходила с ума по всему этому безобразию.Сын приехал и приказал мне купить ему диск( у меня, к моему стыду,этого фильма не было в коллекции), с тех пор он занет все песни наизхусть, у него есть гитара, он научился танцевать , как Джимми. и вообще... это надо видеть...Возможно и правда 25-й кадр...

Половина народу была цыгане (там их много), как все орали!!! Что-то с чем-то! Я помню чуть с дерева не упала!!! Была такая эйфория, не передать, мне даже папа выволочку не сделал, за приход домой в полтретьего ночи Как увидел мое лицо , понял, что бесполезно...

Видно в глазах что-то кардинально менялось, что сразу было понятно, что здесь любые доводы бессильны.. И потом.. это наше увлечение, по большому счету, никакого вреда никому не приносило. Мы не пили, не кололись, не трахались по подворотням.. Все было так возвышенно, чисто,...редко, какому родителю приходило в голову отбивать ребенка от такого благостного занятия

Молодец какой ! А насчет 25-го кадра не знаю. Наверное, он случился в тот самый момент, когда Мит-Джимми повернулся на свадьбе. joy: насмотревшись вдосталь, я стал придирчиво присматриваться к каждой сцене. особливо почему Рита то босиком то на каблучищах пляшет? и вот цветочек на груди упал... КРАСНАЯ РОЗА УПАЛА НА ГРУДЬ, МИЛЫЙ МОЙ ДЖИММИ МЕНЯ НЕ ЗАБУДЬ.... отвлекусь к своим баранам. было мне лет 14 и к нам завезли неожиданно ЗИТА И ГИТА сеанс в 20 нуль нуль, до дома культуры три киламетра пешадрала. я подбил двух девчонок сходить, ВЫ ЧЁ!!! ТАКОЕ КИНО!!!! пошли. ночером поздно опять пешдрало на хату. наперерез нам старша систер одной из девчат са сваим кавалером (ушли мы никому ни слова не сказав).быстро её под златы ручки и до домУ. пять минет спустя маманя другой девчонки с хворостиной ЗДРАААВСТВУЙ ДОЧКА!!!! Надька как комета ужаленая сквозанула тока топот копыт в темноте. я тож сквозанул, а то б и мне перепало б по попам (это Надька потом делилась, что её мамахен и мне хотела впарить). припёрся домой, в полной темноте к постелям а из темноты маман моя: УТРОМ Я С ТОБОЙ ПОГОВОРЮ... ой, а нам то опосля кина уж по хер лужа как говоитса. и потом то мама знала про мою болячку и прощала. помню в Ташкенте в 88 году на фест привезли МИСТЕР ИНДИЯ. сеанс в задрипаном каком то летнем кинотеатре, темнеет поздно, короче сеанс начался в полночь ровно. опосля кина, такси не ходят, метро закрыто, на перекладных, автостопом до общаги (город то большой, пешадрала к утру б тока дома был. зато щастя скока. впервые шриху "живьём" увидали а не на открытках. помню бешенный тогдв фест был, скакали по городу как угорелые, успевали по три четыре сеанса посмотреть.ну а что нам молодым да резвым. к концу феста без гроша, с кучей наменяных открыток и массой новых знакомств. вот думаю, может под настольгию открыть нову рубрику и каждый расскажет интересные случаи из походов в кино или на фесте. А?

Mita9: А мне вот еще что интересно, когда я не работала, а только увлекалась кино, у меня всегда были деньги, зато сейчас я вроде работаю, но мне постоянно их не хватает?! Вот какое чудо творила Индия!

Умеш Мехра... возможно мы и пересекались? мелькал я там, блондиныстый такой парниша (прилагаю пару фоток) правда пришлось потом видоизмениться. мы стояли с девчонками обменивались, и тут к нам подошли милиссионеры узбекские и решили что мы торгуем и хотели отобрать у меня открытки. я кааак чухнул от них на пятой скрости спасая колекци. доолго за мной бежали, но я улизнул вечером с другом решали как быть? ну и решили повести меня в парикмахерскую и перекрасить в брюнета. милиссионеры дежурившие кажен день у гостиницы не признали меня (хвала аллаху!!! )

А мы, кстати, не особенно участвовали в тусне.. даже странно, приехали специально на кинофест, а в основном по городу гуляли-гуляли до потери пульса. Без разных приключений тоже не обошлось. Вспоминаю сейчас тот вояж с ТАКИМ восторгом! Хотя приключения не всегда были положительные. Лично я в это время злостно прогуливала институт - целых 2 недели!!! Приехала к началу экзаменов Сдавала то, что прогуляла И главное ( и самое удивительное!!) - сдала

Абидна,да...лучшим фильмом жюри посчитало Калапуриш,а Нац.премию взял Амит за Блэк... мне не жалко ,но просто я считаю,что актеры в значительной степени делают фильм таким,каким он получается...значит Митхун тоже заслужил
Mita9: А для меня поездка на фест в 92 была ооочень плодотворной!!! Появились хорошие знакомые, благодаря кот. послед. несколько лет были самыми классными! И был один вечер ,когда мы малехо разминулись с Варшой ,когда мы пришли -она уже ушла А вот с Чампой, нам повезло повстречаться(фото будет )она правда на заднем плане но ничего... А сколько всего мы пережили в этом прекрасном городе и не сосчитаешь...но благодяря нашей наивности, многое хорошо оборачивалось- это я сейчас анализирую, Что могло произойти.. но вспомнить и правда можно огромное кол-во..

It is an award ceremony organised by the Bangladeshi’s to promote talents of Bangladesh and UK based film and music industry. About 40 actors and singer arrived from Bangladesh and another 25 local artists participated in the ceremony at EXCEL, which is one of the largest auditoriums in London. About 3000 enthusiast attended from various corner of London city. The show commenced with a dance item by local group, colourful laser lighting created an illusion of the fantasy world. Then the award presentation, and in between the singers and dancers tried to entertain people. Purno Das Baul from Kolkata also created a brief nostalgia with his charming folk tune. It took long to present awards. I could, sense audiences agitated, whispering, where is Mithun? Is he here?.....Mithun……Minthun….. Fortunately the organisers sensed the danger and made a surprised announcement. The very person for whom you all have been waiting impatiently, our beloved Mithun Chakraborty is here…… The announcer couldn’t complete her sentence, the uproar of the audience perhaps echoed miles away….mithun….mithun….. The sound of the orchestra and flashes of light created joys exhilaration. A tall figure with giant steps entered on to the stage. Light illuminated the celebrity and the surrounding figures of musician shrunk beyond recognition. He approached slowly towards the centre of the stage. His presence reminded the image of Bengal tiger. Marginalised, oppressed, in a forging land, desperately holding on to their only precious culture which is severely threatened? In a moment like that, the gigantic and powerful symbol of the very struggle still carrying the light of hope. His emergence on the stage evoked that complex and suppressed feelings of the British Bengalis. They couldn’t control their emotion. They jumped of the seats and a long standing ovation was the vivid example. It was a unique experience for me to witness such a memorable moment. His lovely smile and warmth of his greeting touched people’s heat within a fraction. Dada spoke by heart, “I AM BENGALY AND ONLY BEANGALI’S KNOW HOW TO LOVE. I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ME AND WHENEVER YOU CALL I JOIN YOU” Next time he came on to the stage and sang 2 songs and people were extremely delighted. The reaction of the audience clearly justify the main attraction of the show was only dada, a symbol no one else can replace. After the show I had an appointment to meet dada at the hotel to discuss our project further. When I arrived, there were about 200 people waiting for a glimpse of dada. It became unmanageable for the hotel authority, they closed the gate. I didn’t feel like to take advantage of my position and enter leaving behind those genuine crowed who turned up just to show their respect. In an age of stardom, greed and power; here is some one who has managed to create a place in people’s heart. I stood behind and felt proud of being a Bengali and a simple person. I was quite overwhelmed by the reaction of people who demonstrated their heart wrenching love and respect for a star that represents the true aspiration

Свет освещал знаменитость и фигуры(числа) окружения музыканта, сокращенного до неузнаваемости. Он приблизился медленно к центру стадии(сцены). Его присутствие напомнило изображению(образу) Бенгальского тигра. Рассмотренный второстепенным, угнетаемый, на земле подделывания, отчаянно держащейся за их единственную драгоценную культуру, которой строго угрожают? Через мгновение подобно этому, гигантский и мощный символ самой борьбы, все еще несущей свет надежды. Его появление на стадии(сцене) вызывало те сложные и подавленные чувства британских бенгальцев. Они не могли управлять их эмоцией. Они подскочили из мест, и длинные постоянные аплодисменты были ярким примером. Реакция аудитории ясно оправдывает главную привлекательность показа, был только дадаизм, символ, который никто еще не может заменить. После показа я имел назначение, чтобы встретить(выполнить) дадаизм в гостинице, чтобы обсудить наш проект далее. Когда я прибыл, было приблизительно 200 человек, ждущих проблеска(представления) дадаизма. Это стало неуправляемым для власти(полномочия) гостиницы, они закрыли ворота. Я не испытывал желание использовать в своих интересах мое положение(позицию) и вступать, оставление подлинных кричало, кто поднялся только, чтобы показать их уважение(отношение). В возрасте славы, жадности и власти(мощи); вот - кто - то, кто сумел создать место в сердце людей. Я поддерживал и чувствовал гордящийся тем, чтобы быть бенгальцем и простым человеком. Я был весьма поражен реакцией людей, которые демонстрировали их сердце, выворачивающее любовь и уважение(отношение) к звезде, которая представляет истинное стремление миллионов во всем мире.

Wolf: Ganesh Acharya turns director By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 23, 2006 - 07:00 IST Ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya known for making some of the biggest actors in Bollywood dance to his steps is now set to become a film maker. Reportedly, Ganesh is all set to direct his first film titled Swami starring Juhi Chawla and Mithun Chakraborty. When we called up Ganesh’s office, a spokesperson said that it’s too early to reveal details about the film. Incidentally, Mithun Chakraborty did a film called Swami Dada in the early days of his career. Ganesh Archarya has also made appearances onscreen from time to time. His known performances were in the film Road and Ghatak.

Going by the promos and considering the cast, starring Emraan Hashmi, Ashmit Patel and debutante Geeta Basra, one instantly assumes it to be a love triangle. "DIL DIYA HAI is not an out-an-out love triangle though at a point it does take a triangular mode. It's a love story with lots of serious drama and action. His last three Bengali films have set the cash registers ringing. For the present, he is the uncrowned king of Tollywood, even dethroning Prasenjit and young heartthrob Jeet. Mithun made his comeback with the hugely successful Barood directed by T L V Prasad. His Juddha, directed by Ravi Kinagi, grossed Rs 6 crore, much over its production budget of Rs 2.5 crore. MLA Phatakeshto, by Swapan Saha, also with the same budget, recovered Rs 7 crore. His current film, Abhimanyu, is also running to full houses. Shyamal Dutta, the film’s executive producer, says: “We spent Rs 1.75 crore on the making of the film. We have already recovered three-fourth of the cost in the three weeks since the film was released.” The crowds just can’t seem to get enough of Mithun-da. “The city’s cinegoers are happy to witness the return of Kolkata’s son. While he has always been around, he has been working in Tollywood more often recently. His success is largely due to his all-India appeal. His films have a far greater reach, unlike those starring Prasenjit or Jeet,” says director Saha. Shrikant Mohta of Shri Venkatesh Films, the production house which funded MLA Phatakeshto and Juddha, adds: “He always remained in the hearts of the Bengali audience, so they are doubly happy to have him back. His strong image is unparalleled and cannot be matched by any other Tollywood star.” However, Mithun is reluctant to term this as a comeback. “I always did one Bengali film a year. Now, the number has increased to three. It feels good because the people here have accepted me and my stardom as their own. It feels great to be back as the top Tollywood star,” says the actor. olga: Mithun's the best part of Dil Diya Hai Priyanka Jain September 08, 2006 16:30 IST You'd be forgiven for laughing if I said Mithun Chakraborty is the only saving grace of any film, but that's true for Aaditya Datt's Dil Diya Hai. The actor is the only one who has put in a good performance. Dil Diya Hai stars Emraan Hashmi, Ashmit Patel and newcomer Geeta Basra. Although it initially appears to have a different story line, it ends up being as repetitive as any of Emraan's old films. Be it Aashiq Banaya Aapne or Aksar, they all feature similar wardrobes (jeans and a smart jacket), a foreign locale and a Himesh Reshammiya soundtrack. The Hashmi package -- his look, the way he emotes, the poses, the way he walks during the songs, the glances he gives his heroine -- is all so similar that you wonder if you are watching a new film at all. The only thing missing here are his famous lip-locks. It now remains to be seen if people will still flock to see his films, minus the kissing. The tale begins in London, where Saahil (Emraan) is a tour guide who cons clients to make an extra buck. He needs the money to pay for a lung transplant for his mother. Enter Neha (Geeta), who is visiting London with her family. She forgives Saahil easily even though he tries to con her. Not just that, she plays a prank on him and goes clubbing with a complete stranger. Then comes the inevitable. She misses her train to Scotland and is left alone with Saahil. Even though his mother is on her deathbed and he needs to arrange money for the operation, he agrees to drive her to Scotland. On the way, she eats a sandwich and starts throwing up. They land up at Ronnie's (Mithun) house, where Saahil drinks himself silly. The next day, after dropping Neha off, he finds out about his mother's deteriorating condition. He gambles, but fails to come up with the money. He remembers that he was once given a proposition to sell girls. Remember the Robert Redford-Demi Moore film Indecent Proposal?You will find similar scenes here. In his crisis, he accepts the proposal, abducts Neha and sells her for enough money to get his mother operated. Neha has been sold to Kunal Malik (Ashmit), a brothel-owner hunting for some Indian skin. The only truly emotional moment is when you see a helpless Neha cuddled on a sofa, crying as she realises her love has thrown her into such a predicament. Apart from this one scene, Geeta Basra has nothing to offer in terms of acting. Meanwhile, Kunal has bought her as a prostitute, but ends up falling in love and wanting to marry her. Then comes the climax... Alhough the film has a different plot, the half-baked screenplay and characters mar it. Aaditya hasn't progressed beyond his last, Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Cinematographer Attar Singh Saini fails to do justice to the beautiful locales. Himesh's music is strictly okay, while Ashmit fails to evoke any hatred. Finally, Geeta Basra looks good, but that's about it.

Way back in 1976, a young lad walked away with the National Award for his role of an adivasi. Then came his avtar of a disco dancer. "Yes, I came into the industry as an actor. And moved on to become a star with the help of my dancing skills," says Mithun Chakraborty. But, when he saw his son Mimoh (after wife Yogita told him the youngster wanted to join films) dancing for the first time, he was "horrified." Mithun advised him to just copy any one of his songs to the T. "That's when I saw a spark in him. And today, after some amount of training, he's turned out to be 25 times better than me," says the proud father. But, unlike many other industry dads, Mithun is wary of producing a film for Mimoh. "Right from day one, I told him that he'll have to make it on his own. I'm a practical person — with four kids, I don't have that kind of money," he states. Getting back to the subject of his own career, he says, "I have some very interesting films in hand — from Guru in which I play a newspaper baron to Raakh. In a forthcoming film, there is a cameo in which I'm singing a qawwali, shot at the dargah in Ajmer." A devotee of the place, he informs, "I visit Ajmer often. Actually, my wife had a number of miscarriages before Mimoh was born. I prayed and got blessings that I continue to be grateful for.".. For one who's been part of the Hindi film industry for over three decades, Mithun feels he's done "a variety of roles — from positive to negative." Winner of three National Awards, Mithun enjoys the feeling of being a "cult figure for the masses, though I don't really know what it means. I enjoy reaching out to people," he states. And it was dancing that made him do that. "These days, the emphasis is more on technique than on the feet movements. Of course, there are a few talented dancers like Hrithik. Other than him, there are hardly any whose steps can be emulated. In my time, people really related to the way I used to dance on my toes," he says. While films keep him busy, he does take off for Ooty to be with his family and 42 dogs, who he says, "are also like my kids." A great football fan, Mithun's a keen follower of cricket too. He still wears red shirts, still has that broad, catchy smile. With receding hairline and a slight paunch, film actor Mithun Chakraborty is aging gracefully and has no complaints. He was once considered a serious contender to the superstar tag of Amitabh Bachchan. With more than three decades of experience in the film world, the actor has been at ease with stardom and is also painfully aware of its pitfalls. In New Delhi for the promotion of his just-released film, `Dil Diya Hai,' Mithun talks about his role of a reformed don in the film who gives up all for the sake of love. But what is so exciting about this role for a three-time winner of the National Award for best acting? "I love playing a don and I think it suits me. My character in this film is a positive one without any shades of grey. I am a catalyst in the story who helps the two lovers to come together," says Mithun trying to sound convincing. He says he knows that even if he tries now, he cannot play the characters he once played in meaningful films like `Mrigaya,' `Ramakrishna' and `Tahedar Katha,' and so on because he has "lost the innocence over the years, which these characters had." Born as Gouranga Chakraborty, Mithun did his B. Sc from Scottish Church College, Calcutta, and later graduated from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He got his first break in 1976 in `Mrigaya' which fetched him his first National Award. Mithun today runs a successful hotel business in Ooty and was the country's highest taxpayer for five consecutive years from 1995 to 1999. Considering his popularity, he could have very well thought of joining politics. "A man becomes a politician for leisure and I don't feel like taking rest as of now. Mithun is planning to go public with his chain of mid-market hotels operating under the Howard Johnson The Monarch hotels brand to raise capital for setting up a pan-India hospitality chain. As part of this expansion strategy, the chain which currently operates hotels in south India intends to check into Mumbai and Goa markets to ride the travel boom. The firm has already identified land in Mumbai for the new hotel, which is expected to be operational within the next two years. "We are on an expansion mode now with the hospitality chain and plan to list the company and go public in the next two years,' Mithun Chakraborty told ToI. "We have already signed up for land for building the new Mumbai property, and next in line is a hotel in Goa. As soon as the Mumbai property is operational, we will hit the capital market to raise more funds for expanding the hotel chain's reach across the country,' Chakraborty added. His firm Monarch Hospitality Services, which is the master franchisee for mid-scale hotel industry leader US-based Howard Johnson International, is working out modalities for the equity dilution through the public offer route. "The quantum of equity to be diluted through the public offer is yet to be finalised. We want to first scale up the operations to a certain level, and that will be achieved with the Mumbai property,' he said. There is an enormous demand for quality mid-market travel products in India, said Chakraborty. "Our idea is to deliver mid-priced hotels to millions of travellers while offering premium service.' Each of the new properties would be developed under the Howard Johnson The Monarch brand. Sources said the firm, which is initiating talks with merchant bankers for IPO, plans to develop around 15 hotels in five years. It plans to develop hotels in Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Алёна: West Bengal Govt Seeks Security For Mithun Chakraborty CALCUTTA - Reports that forest brigand Veerappan could kidnap Bollywood film star Mithun Chakraborty have prompted West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya to urge the Union home ministry to provide security to the actor. The Tamil language newspaper Dinathanthi had reported on Tuesday that Veerappan, who abducted Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar and kept him in captivity for 109 days, was now planning to kidnap Chakraborty. The report was picked up by a Bengali language daily here and generated widespread concern among the people. Bhattacharya told reporters that Chakraborty had written to the West Bengal government about the threat from Veerappan. "We have replied to his letter. We have also conveyed our concern to the Central home ministry and urged it to provide adequate security cover to Mithun Chakraborty," the chief minister said. Chakraborty lives in Coimbatore and has a hotel in the hill resort of Udhagamandalam or Ooty, close to the jungles where Veerappan operates. Chakraborty is reportedly close to the Communist leadership in the state. On several occasions, he has helped arrange cultural and sporting events to raise money for the state government. The newspaper Aajkal, which first published the Dinathanthi report, quoted Chakraborty as saying that he was fine. It also said that the Tamil Nadu government had deployed plainclothes policemen and intelligence personnel to guard Chakraborty. The report said the brigand was planning to abduct Chakraborty as he commanded nationwide popularity unlike Rajkumar, who was known largely in the two southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Bhattacharya said Chakraborty would be provided security whenever he visited West Bengal. Chakraborty enjoys huge popularity in the state not only because of his celluloid exploits but also his philanthropic ventures. Chakraborty frequently visits West Bengal, where he is planning to build a few hotels. Chakraborty has founded Aamra, an organization dedicated to the poor and the needy, and a residential academy for budding footballers. He is also patron of a thalassaemia foundation. He writes a column in the leading Bengali language daily Ananda Bazaar Patrika. Anxious Chakraborty fans called up newspaper offices to inquire about his safety. Members of Mithun Chakraborty fan clubs are planning to meet the chief minister to demand adequate security for the film star. Sources reveal that co-actor Madhavan found it difficult to match Mithunda's genius. Maddy was made to give around 15 re-takes for a scene with the senior actor in the last schedule of the Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai starrer. But Maddy considers Ratnam his guru and has often said that he doesn't mind giving innumerable re-takes for the Chennai-based genius.

It was learnt that the Ooty-based Mithun Hotels Pvt Ltd, the company run by the actor, owns another hotel, Monarch. It has been a long journey for the National Award-Best Actor for ‘Mrigya’ from where he debuted his acting career. Similarly, Pune’s Pride Group of Hotels is scouting for a plot between Andheri and Malad, to construct a five-star hotel. Vivek Pathiyan, vice president, operations of the group, said that their 120-room hotel will be operational by the beginning of 2008. The group already runs five-star hotels in Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Bangalore, apart from Pune. “We are keen to start new ventures in Cochin, Hyderabad, Goa, and Delhi. But our immediate priority is Mumbai,” Pathiyan said. He added that the Pride Group has drawn up a Rs 350 crore growth plan to expand its chain to 1,100 five-star rooms, with 11 properties across the country by 2011. Taj Group company, Indian Hotels, has also drawn up an ambitious plan to construct a 200-room hotel on the plot near Santacruz airport, which once housed the Taj Flight Kitchen. For Rahul, it was a homecoming of sorts since he has been brought up in Delhi and also received his education here. Accompanying Rahul were former Miss India Asia pacific Parmeeta Katkar and actor Rahul Singh, the lead actors of 'Kachchi Sadak', and the director Sanjay Singh. Also making his tryst with the people of Delhi after a long time was filmmaker Ramgopal Verma, who was here for the promotion of his latest film 'Shiva', touted as a remake of his 90s film of the same name. Accompanying him were actors Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari, the film's lead pair. Considering that the visits of Ramgopal Verma in the Capital are quite rare, the filmmaker remained the focus of all attention during his visit. The visit perhaps happened because Ramgopal Verma is keen to promote 'Shiva' to the utmost as he sees the films as a means to revive the 'long-forgotten' genre of action films, which ruled the roost in the 70s and the 80s, and the angry young hero. The same day also saw the glamorous Urmila Matondkar, the thinking actor Sanjay Suri and Director Onir arrive in Delhi in connection with the pre-release publicity for their latest film 'Bas Ek Pal'. This was the cast's second visit to the capital since the premiere of 'Bas Ek Pal' at the Osian's film festival of Asian cinema in July. The bubbly and immensely talented actress Kajol also made a brief appearance in the capital last week in her capacity as the brand ambassador of LG. Also witnessed in the Capital were the petite and beautiful Preeti Jhangiani and the handsome Nukul Vaid (who played the assistant to Nana Patekar in 'Ab Tak Chhappan'). Looking very much the traditional Indian beauty' in 'salwar kameez', Preeti was here for the music release function on Monday of her latest film 'With Luv Tumhara'. The music release event was, however, a low key affair with two of the members of the film's cast, Pravin Dabas and Anupama Verma, not being able to make it to the function. The stylish Arjun Rampal also had his tryst with the Delhi audience when he arrived on a brief visit to the capital on Tuesday to unveil the latest edition of the MTV Style awards. Wednesday saw the presence of the pretty Minissha Lamba, former Miss India Gul Panag, actor Shreyas Talpade and filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor. While Minissha was here in capacity as the ambassador of 'Café Coffee Day' to unveil their 50th outlet in the capital, Gul, Shreyas and Nagesh were here to promote their latest film 'Dor', which releases today. Recent years have seen the Capital Delhi become a favourite destination for the celebrities for the tinsel town of Mumbai with an increasing number of filmmakers either promoting their film here or holding the music release functions or the premieres of their films in the capital city. Also, with an increasing number of corporates using tinsel stars as brand ambassadors of their products, the presence of these stars in the capital, to promote the products they are endorsing, has become a usual feature.

Quite a filmi touch for Mithun Chakraborty’s eldest son who is all set to join the Bollywood band of star sons. “My father has always been a great admirer of both these legends who rose from the grassroots, and he decided to name his first born after them,” says the 22-year-old whose actual name is Mahakshay, meaning immortal in Sanskrit. Akki: девчонки не прошло и полгода (да нет, меньше конечно полмесяца). но зато - подошла к процессу со всей ответственностью итак, обещаные капсы. из Dil de diya. архивом, в количестве 202 штуки. 7 метров на рапиде. з д е с ь осторожно!!!! капсы - тоже спойлеры!!!! можно хотя бы титров не читать пы.сы. Ален, не, его тут не 5 минут. конечно, главный персонаж - Имран. и девочка. Митя появляется на 44-й минуте на 10 минут. и потом последние полчаса фильма - полностью с его участием. итого - 40 минут. не все так плохо о, у него тут даже песня есть - почти целая!!! красивая песня, кстати. кстати, роль у него тут интересная. с чувством юмора товарищ.

Жизнь у него такая по сюжету. про Митю уже говорила выше. не, не самое ужасное кино, нет. моментами даже мило. а в целом смотрела с интересом даже (может, из-за девочки а может, потому что сегодня уже без первых пяти минут смотрела про начало фильма я писала в отзывах, эстетических чувств оно во мне не вызвало, Ашмит в первых кадрах - ээээ.... мррррр.... а продолжила смотреть ф. уже без этих пяти минут - и от этого фильм для меня только выиграл ). экшн ужасный (но его мало, слава богу фильм про романтику больше) - такое ощущение, что в фильм пригласили постановщиков с югов... те же полеты и пируэты. фоновая музыка оч. понравилась. и песни Решаммии тоже. а поскоку я люблю и то, как он поет, то осталась довольна музыкальной частью фильма.

A friend of mine once spotted him at a 5 star hotel, casually talking to the reception desk clerk about the weather and his latest movie. My friend, awestruck……went over and asked him for his autograph in a low voice. Mithunda not only obliged him with the autograph but also talked to him casually for about ten minutes as if he were an old friend. That little chat obviously meant much more to my friend than the autograph and he still cherishes that day as one of the best days of his life. I mean…..think about it…..when have you ever had even a normal person, much less a superstar talking to you for ten minutes as if you were the only person in the world??? ************** Че они так удивляются, как будто это что-то из ряда вон? olga: Аленка Там написано, мой друг (того, кто писал) застал Митхуна в 5-звездочном отеле, непринужденно болтающим с клерком на ресепшене о погоде и своем последнем фильме. Он попросил у него автограф и тот не только дал ему автограф, но и проговорил с ним 10 минут, и мол эта беседа для него была куда дороже автографа, и в конце вопрос: какой обычный человек и гораздо меньший, чем суперзведа может проговорить с вами в течение 10 минут, так как будто вы единственный человек на свете? Вот я и говорю, для Митхуна это совершенно нормальное поведение, как правильно сказала alla, испытано на себе

Sonar Bangla Says Abhishek, “Mithunda would bring Bengali food on the sets and serve it to us with his own hands. He’s great fun to be around and very soon became the big daddy of the unit. It was wonderful to spend time with him.” Abhishek plays Gurukant Desai, the protagonist of the film. Mithun, who plays Manik Dasguptha, the owner of the bilingual newspaper The Independent/ Swatantra and Desai’s rival, says, “It all started when I got food for myself from the Bengali restaurant Annapoorna while shooting in Chennai. They have a great cook there. Whenever I go to Chennai, I make it a point to eat at Annapoorna. I asked the unit if they wanted to try the food, and of course, they did. They found it delicious and the next day I had to get food for everybody! Very soon, macher kaalia, alu postho, patoler dorma, maacher tok and various other dishes were being delivered on the sets every day. Even when I stopped shooting and returned home, I heard the unit would go to Annapoorna and eat there.” Ash conscious Mithun has good words of praise for Abhishek. He says, “I am so proud of Abhishek for making his own identity in the industry. I have seen both Abhishek and Shweta grow up in front of me. I want to give him full credit for coming out of his father’s megastar status and for creating a niche of his own. He has grown immensely in confidence and maturity. Abhishek is a very sensitive and talented actor and he’s looking great. I wish that my son Mimoh gets the same level of adulation.” What about Ash? “She is not only one of the most beautiful women in the world, but is also adorable! Ash wasn’t very keen on eating Bengali food as she is very health-conscious. But I insisted that she atleast try some of the dishes. She would grumble a lot and eat very little! Abhishek is part Bengali, but he doesn’t know how to eat Bengali food. So I would serve the food myself and explain to them how to mix one dish with another and pick out the fish bones,” says the actor. Насколько я поняла, во время съемок в Чиннаи Митхун принес из бенгальского ресторана "Аннапурна" какие-то кушанья и сам накормил Абхишека и Ашварию (она, кстати, сопротивлялась и говорила что не ест острое), которые снимаются в фильме вместе с ним. Он рассказывал им о каждом блюде и рекомендовал, что лучше с чем кушать и как вынимать кости из рыбки Далее идет высказывание Мита об Аби и Аш. Об Аби он хорошего мнения, и говорит, что хотел бы, чтобы Мимох когда-нибудь получил бы такое признание. Об Аш он отзывался тоже хорошо, назвал ее одной из самых красивых женщин в мире, сопроводил эпитетом "восхитительная". Вобщем, как-то вот так

This amazes a lot coz as it clearly come across a little unexpected given the fact that the soft-spoken director has always chosen to work with big names. Mithun, a very talented actor and a former dancing star, is even remembered today by many a movie lovers. But today he is not in the list of happening actors and that makes his selection a little startling. But you never know with Ratnam; he is a guy with the Golden Touch! Но тут они его видимо впрямь довели, это постараться надо!

Wolf: Guru - Finally a worthy comeback for Mithun Chakraborty Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, December 06, 2006] In the month of January, it will be 2 years since Mithun Chakraborty made his comeback with 'Elaan'. Not to mention that it turned out to be pretty damp squib in the end. The film flopped and though he had a decent hit in the form of 'Lucky-No Time For Love', his was the poorest etched role in the Salman Khan-Sneha Ullal starrer. Playing the role of a 'guru' in both 'Classic-Dance Of Love' and 'Chingaari' didn't help either as the films were commercial disasters though he did come for some critical appreciation in the latter. Acting in small time films like 'Sun Zarra' and 'Kachchi Sadak' were just not worthy enough and though there were sparks of vintage Mithunda in Aditya Dutt's 'Dil Diya Hai' a few months back, it was still not good enough. Now all eyes are set in Mani Ratnam's 'Guru' which releases on January 12th (exactly 2 years after 'Elaan' which came on January 14th 2005). The film appears to be the first ever which would be truly utilizing Mithun's potential as he plays the role of Manikdas Guptha a.k.a Nanaji. Nananji is shown to be a veteran who runs a newspaper called Swathantra and is highly impressed with the kind of fire that he could feel within the character played by Abhishek Bachchan i.e. Guru. In spite of knowing Guru as a young lad whose walk towards his destination seemed too fast, he attributed it to his young blood. But later when he was made aware about Guru's so-called evil ways, he wanted to fight and destroy him. A showoff that indeed sounds highly promising, one keenly anticipates the release of the film.

Mahesh Pande was very keen to get a big name for the said role. And with Jeetendra being inhouse, he didn't have to make much effort. Obviously Jeetendra did reject the role of Gabbar Singh outright as he did not want any comparisons at this stage of his career where he is relaxing and enjoying the success of his children Ekta and Tusshar. "I informed Ekta that I tried hard to see if anyone fitted the role, I could not think beyond Jeetuji. Ekta agreed. And then I went to Jeetuji and told him. His first question was, Has Ekta agreed?‚ when I replied in the affirmative, he immediately said that he was fine by it. He did not even think twice before saying yes," says Mahesh Pande, proud at this achievement. Pande says that the basic structure of the role led him to approach Jeetendra. "He is so very fit today. I needed physical fitness for the character. I also needed someone who also had audience liking appreciation and of course identification. Jeetuji can fit any big role easily today. And more importantly this role is not exactly similar to the one that Sanjeev Kumar played in Ramesh Sippy's Sholay," says Pande. Interestingly Pande's Bhojpuri remake of the film is called Gababr Singh as the film is more from Gabbar's point of view. "There are changes in the script in a major way. But I know that by saying that I am remaking Sholay and subjecting my script for scrutiny. He is in the process of bringing together two of the biggest stars of the ’80s for an song in his forthcoming film Bhootnath which is being directed by Vivek Sharma. After 16 years, since Agneepath, if all goes well, Mithun Chakravarthy and Amitabh Bachchan will share screen space in Bhootnath for an item number. Ravi Chopra said that once the shooting of the film resumes, he will approach Mithun Chakraborty for a special song which will be picturised on both these stars and will be shot in a unique way. Wolf: Apun Mithunda! Kois Shak?? Mithun Charkaborty. A name that makes me loose my self control, makes my blood boil and my anger go wild. And it for all the wrong reasons. I have always adored and loved this guy. As a child I have watched more of his movies than Amitabh. He is person who has taken me into a totally different world of dancing, spygames and large than life heroism. So the question is why am I angry at him? It because I always felt that he has more talent than all the actors of his time. He is one of the rare actors who never got ruffled by Big B and matched him for scene to scene in the three movies with him. Such is his acting talent that he walked away with a National Award in his first movie. He is like the Indian cricket team that offers much but delivers a little. It was in 1984 that I watched his 1979 released Suraksha. But before that he had already made me his fan with Disco Dancer. With Disco Dancer he had totally corrupted all young minds and made them awesome dance freaks. During our break time in school, my friends and I would try to imitate his dancing steps. Each evening we would be watching DD and showcasing the steps the next day. And yes, we were able to get some real hot chicks because of it. Before Mithunda’s arrival, Bollywood had a number of Bond style movies but none of the actors had carried the role to perfection. It had to be Gunmaster 9 (G9) who could be doing a death defying stunt and the very next minutes making love to a sexy desi kudi. G 9 had made its debut in 1979 in Suraksha and returned to Indian cinema in 1981 in a movie called Waardat. Every role he did was carried with panache like a docile person waiting to explode in Hum Paanch, a master under-cover cop in Dhuaan, as sensible businessman in Pasand Apni Apni, a bastard who wants to get women in bed before dumping them in Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye or a venomous despicable creature in Jallad To his credit he has won National Award three times. He received Best Actor Award for Mrigya in 1977, Tahader Katha in 1993 and the Best Supporting Actor for Swami Vivekananda in 1996. The other actors who appear on this list more than one time are Kamal Haasan, Naseeruddin Shah, Mohanlal and Mamooty. Even Amitabh has not won it more than once and that was in Agneepath. Agneepath, a movie of one man’s tirade with his destiny. If Amitabh was the centre of attraction, Mithun was the soul of the movie. Krishan Iyer M.A. wearing a white lungi with a big tika on his head carried the movie from becoming another big masala into an epic. He has also done a lot of movies that did not require much of acting thought. But he has also done some meaningful stuff. He was awesome in Ghulami, Agneepath and my personal favorite Prem Pratigya. From doing great movies he moved on to doing some real rubbish stuff. This was the prime reason of being totally disillusioned with him. I could not bring myself to watch him doing mediocre roles in B grade movies that did neither have any consistent story nor any other actors of repute. Every B grade would be with some buxom obnoxious female actors and illogical villains. Some of his movie titles were very funny indeed. Example Phool aur angaar, Numbari Aadmi (he actually wore a jacket in this movies with numbers written all over it) Military Raaj and more. There has always a talk that his movies never make money. But the question being asked is why are the producers signing him up again and again? Has some rabid dog bit them that they want to loose money? The answer is a clear NO. His movies rarely loose money. They might not make much in the metros but in the inner parts of India he is still a screen god. Mithun still has fan following which rivals some of the very big names of Bollywood. Till today most of his movies will be full house on first day. We, the elite movie-goers, scoff at a thought of watching his movies in cinema. But has anyone seen the ticket queue for his movies. Trying buying first day first show ticket at the low priced cinema’s of Dadar or Parel. I bet you tickets will be sold out before you reach there. India’s income tax department loves to pounce on people from the movie industry. They know that there is a lot of un-accounted money is stacked up and no tax has been paid for it. In 1996 I was surprised to see half page ad in Times of India by the income tax department with Mithun as its mascot. This was on account of him being the highest individual tax payer from 1994 to 1999. It is not as if he was making the highest of money in India but because of him being the son of the soil. It was the deep embedded social responsibility that made him pay tax on every Rupee he earned. There are those who make more than him but you won’t find their names on the top 100 tax payer list. Mithunda has traveled a lot from being a staunch Naxalite to a highly respected actor and businessman. He has come up from a very humble family. His contribution to the society is immense. Each year he was the prime sponsor for cricket tournaments and other social causes. He is not just another great actor but a great human being as well. There are times that I wish he had done more meaningful between the run of the mills that used to be released each month. As an actor he has not totally satisfied me. There were times that I felt he has not done justice not only to his acting ability but to fans like me. And this is the reason that I have a very on-off relationship with him. Mani Ratnam taking him in his movie Guru has really excited me. May be this will be a second innings of relationship between thousands of fans like me and him. And maybe, just maybe he will start coming in better movies. It is a long shot but am prying that it happens. Eagerly looking for to Mithunda’s Guru and beyond. May the force be with him. Koi shak???

October 8, 2006 Posted by Vivek Kumar in Humour, Bollywood, Moscow. trackback There were many reasons for someone like me to watch Lucky: No Time for Love (L:NTFL), but I would highlight only two - Mithunda and Moscow. And then - Mithunda in Moscow. I don’t suppose it could get any better. For those who doubt the popularity of Mithunda, you just have to go shopping in Moscow. The local vegetable/meat market is called reenak and looks just like any typical Indian sabzi mandi. Some of my friends went there and were trying to recall appropriate Russian names for some vegetables when they heard someone shout “Oye Mithun Chakravarty!” Yes, you read that correctly. Oye. Mithun. Chakravarty. As it turned out, the vegetable vendor recognised them correctly as Indians (not as South Asians or some such “broader identity”) but he could recall only one Indian name to attract their attention: Mithun Chakravarty. Not Shahrukh Khan, not Amitabh Bachchan, not even Raj Kapoor (a post about him would come up later). A couple of days before this incident at reenak, the movie L:NTFL was mentioned to me by another friend. So when the incident at reenak was recounted to me and the laughter subsided, I thought to myself - this couldn’t just be coincidence. So I borrowed the DVD from my friend and watched it. And what a discovery this was! A quick look at Mithunda related archives of Greatbong confirmed that he hasn’t reviewed the movie. Well, that’s a pity. It is a movie that has been waiting to be seen (it has been a long wait though, I admit). Mithunda plays the role of Retd. Colonel Pindi Das Kapoor (called Pee-Dee in the movie) who is some sort of a Man Friday to the Indian Ambassador in Moscow. Mithunda obviously speaks fluent Russian, though it is mostly limited to Spaciba (thanks) and Pazalasta (please) in this movie. That is obviously because if he spoke any more Russian, the Indian audience wouldn’t understand it. We all know he is speaking fluent Russian throughout the movie when he is off-screen. He is also a master of disguise (he puts Mission Impossible to shame, really) and everytime he reveals who he is, people around him are just as stumped as they were last time. I would not attempt a movie review here (that is a task better left to Greatbong, who alone can do justice to Pee-Dee), but I would highly recommend this movie to all die-hard Mithunda fans. Movie Trivia: The movie does not show the real Indian Embassy but passes off a shot of Indian Consulate in St. Petersburg as that of the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Also, the movie has been shot largely in St. Petersburg and not in Moscow. Question not to ask yourself when watching the movie: How does a girl living in Moscow, bicycle-riding on her way to school end up several kilometers outside Moscow, when all she did was to hide in a car that was already in Moscow and was headed towards the centre of the city? Other questions not to ask yourself when watching the movie: As he addresses a gathering of Indians ready to be evacuated, would an Indian Ambassador ever ask Indians living in Moscow to forget Russia forever (hamesha hameha ke liye) and never come back? Would the Indian Ambassador be on the first evacuation flight? Okay, okay. There are too many questions you should not ask yourself when watching the movie. As per reports in a daily, the duo would soon share screen space in Chopra’s BHOOTNATH albeit for a song sequence. Совсем недавно посмотрела "Классический танец любви".....разговор тут не о том насколько фильм плох, а о том,что Митхун умудрился вытащить это чудо-творение за уши из такой попы. На самом деле очень боялась смотреть на него "современного", после его шедевральных фильмов, но он меня не то что не разочаровал, а покорил вновь. Такой мужчина может заинтересовать и молодых девушек, в нем столько магнетизма.... olga: Mani is an actor’s director: Mithun Diganta Guha Mumbai, January 10, 2007 Guru, which releases on Friday, is actor Mithun Chakraborty’s first film with renowned director Mani Ratnam. That’s just one of the reasons why the film is special to Mithun. However, there are other reasons, too. Mithun starred in Umesh Mehra’s film of the same name (1989) with Sridevi. In Waqt Ki Awaaz (1988), the song Guru guru was a rage. Recently, he starred in a Bengali film titled Guru. And we all know that his fans fondly call him Guru. "Both the previous Gurus were superhit films and I expect this one to follow the trend," says Mithun. This time, Mithun is not the hero — Abhishek Bachchan is. However, Mithun, who was in town on a brief visit and spoke to HT City from his hotel room on Tuesday, has reason enough to be delighted to be part of the film. "Mani and I were supposed to have worked together nine years ago. That time, he wanted me to cut my hair, which I couldn’t. However, this time round, I took a break for the film," says the National Award winning actor, who sports a completely new look in the film unlike the one of the action hero that we are used to seeing him in. Mithun is all praise for the director. "Mani is an actor’s director. There were occasions when I wanted to prove him wrong, but he had the last laugh," he says. The actor says his character is very demanding. Mithun plays an honest crusader who runs a newspaper called The Independent. He finds Guru, (Abhishek’s character in the film) on the road one day and treats him like his son. "He pushes him to do the right things," he says. The actor would not get into the rumour whether the film is late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani’s biography, except to say that "It is a social drama and a film that every dreamer would relate to." Guru is Mithun’s first film with Abhishek. "He has done a terrific job," says the actor who has worked with Abhishek’s father Amitabh Bachchan in Do Anjane, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati and Agneepath. On a parting note, Mithun says, "My National Awards are a thing of the past. What is important is what I am learning now from Mani. "I'm glad to be around for so long." Thankfully no one is offering him father and brother roles in Bollywood. "My new release Guru has me directed by Mani Ratnam. Do you know if things had gone well I’d have worked with him long ago. Yes, Mani had offered me a role in his Tamil film Iruvar (which Prashant finally played) which I didn't do because I was required to cut my hair. If I had cut my hair for one film a dozen other producers would've committed suicide. Mani is a filmmaker who has been doing exemplary work for many years." Mithun is all praise of Mani. "He's an actors' director. He's very clear about what he wants. Whenever I thought I was going wrong, he assured me I was doing fine. Every time I had my doubts I'd run to the monitor to check out my shots. And he was right each time! There was so much to learn from Mani. And I'm not saying that just because I have to. All my young co-stars Abhishek, Aishwarya, Madhavan, and Vidya are lovely to work with…Yes, things have improved technically. The atmosphere is far more cut-throat. The media is far more active today. That makes the stars far more conscious of doing the right things." He refuses to play the stereotypical father or brother. "If I did any of those my fans in Bengal would be very very unhappy. Over there they still see me as a star or superstar. My recent Bengali films like Hungama are super-hits. Bengali producers would throw a fit if I did fatherly roles in Hindi." Every year Mithun-da does 3-4 Bengali films. He confesses he moved to Ooty with his family in the 1980s for the sake of his family. “Because I didn't want to die with the actor's shoes on. I've no ambitions to die as an actor. I want to secure my children's future. They shouldn't suffer when I'm not here. My daughter is only 9!" At the peak of his career Mithun moved to Ooty to do a whole lot of sub-standard films. "I don't know why you should call them sub-standard," he jumps to defend his movies. "Those were also very big hits, for example Jallad. How do you classify them as A-grade or B-grade? Sure, you can classify them as small-budgeted films. Any actor who doesn't know the economics of filmmaking is bound to flop. You need to know your market value. And if you consider yourself a big star in your head, then you'll fall flat on your face. Just because I'm a big star in Bengal I can't ask for Rs 5 crores in Mumbai. I've to know my exact value. To stay in the business I had to know the market and my own value in and out. That's how those films that you call sub-standard films happened. If I'm still around today it's because I did all those films…big small, good or bad or ugly." His next Hindi release is Hansal Mehta's Raakh. "It's a mafia story and I play an elder brother’s role. Mithun-da's range extends from Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya and TL.V Prasad's Jallad.”And let's not forget I play Ramkrishna Paramhans which got me my third National award. So I've played everything from Disco Dancer to Jallad to God…Yes, it's been a long journey." Incidentally Mithun had done a film called Guru in the 1980s. "And I had also done a Guru in Bengali. So this is my third Guru. Both in the past have been very big hits. I'm sure this will be my third successful Guru”… My God! Such a long journey…Any mistakes? “See, the past is a burden that you carry. I don't think it helps you improve on your mistakes. The present and the future are what count. I don't believe in living in the past. Landmarks? The three National award-winning films…then of course Disco Dancer, Pyar Jhutka Nahin, Hum Paanch, Mujrim….These gave me an actor's status and made me very popular." He warns his fans not to expect the same Mithun that they saw in the past. "There isn't that much footage in Guru for me. But whatever there is, it is very important to the plot." olga: REVIEW OF GURU by Taran Adarsh Meet India's most powerful man, screams the headlines. You want to believe the statement primarily because the man at the helm of affairs is none other than Mani Ratnam, one of the finest talents India has produced. Irrespective of how his films are received by the paying public, you cannot deny the fact that a Mani Ratnam film is special. So when GURU, Mani's new film, makes claims such as the one mentioned above, the viewer saunters into the cineplex with real big expectations. Mani's impressive repertoire includes a few bio-pics and now GURU is a welcome addition to the club. This time around, the supremely talented storyteller narrates the story of a man who rises from zilch and becomes the premier industrialist of the country through sheer hard work, determination, passion and grit. As a story, GURU is tremendously inspiring and makes you feel all the more confident to encounter challenges and hurdles that may crop up in a journey called life. But by no means is GURU a documentary, as a section of the film industry/media would want us to believe. Sure, GURU chronicles several vital facets of an industrialist's life, but the marriage of enlightenment and entertainment is brilliantly executed here. With GURU, Mani proves that he's indeed the guru when it comes to narrating stories. Note the poignant moments in the narrative -- Guru's thorny relationship with his father [Rajendra Gupta], his relationship with a newspaper publisher [Mithun Chakraborty], Guru's brother-in-law Jignesh [Arya Babbar] staging a walkout and creating a rift between Guru and his wife Sujata [Aishwarya Rai], the confrontation between the journalist [Madhavan] and Guru at the publisher's residence, Guru's emotional moment in the hospital when his trusted aide [Manoj Joshi] attempts suicide and of course, the finale. The graph of GURU escalates gradually and reaches its crescendo in the concluding reels. Guru's monologue in a packed courtroom -- where an enquiry commission is looking into the complaints against Guru's companies -- gives you goose bumps. The simpleton from a village in Gujarat roars like never before and the impact it creates cannot be described in mere words. All you want to say is, it's the most fitting finale for a fabulous film! Mani's choice of the protagonist -- Abhishek Bachchan -- is equally worthy. You ought to be enormously talented to understand the nuances of the character and Abhishek deserves the highest praise for reliving a complex role. You smile when he smiles, you cry when he cries… you relive every single emotion that the character experiences. Only goes to show that the actor involves you at every step with a stupendous performance. In a nutshell, GURU packs in a solid punch in those 2.45 hours. The year 2007 may have just begun, but one can confidently state that this Mani Ratnam film will rank prominently amongst the bests of the year when we go into a flashback mode later this year. Put your hands together for one of the most courageous attempts on the Hindi screen. GURU is a film not to be missed! In a small village of Idar in Gujarat, a young man dreams of making it big some day. His father [Rajendra Gupta], the headmaster of the village school, tells him that dreams never come true. But Gurukant Desai [Abhishek Bachchan] dares to dream! Set in 1951, GURU tells the story of a ruthlessly ambitious villager who moves to Turkey first and Mumbai later with his wife Sujata [Aishwarya Rai] and brother-in-law Jignesh [Arya Babbar] to fulfill his dreams. In Mumbai, truth dawns upon Guru that the business world is a closed community ruled by a handful of rich and influential people who don't believe in giving opportunities to new players. Despite barriers, he starts a company called Shakti Trading and climbs the ladder of success at a furious pace. Manik Dasgupta aka Nanaji [Mithun Chakraborty], who publishes a newspaper Swatantra, treats Guru as his son. But when he learns that Guru's means to make it big are not right, he along with the Editor of his newspaper, Shyam [Madhavan], decide to expose Guru's unjust ways. Even though GURU is a bio-pic, the serpentine twists and turns in the screenplay are the mainstay of the enterprise. You may have heard of a few incidents, but the life sketch of the leading industrialist makes for an interesting celluloid experience. From the writing point of view, while GURU holds your attention at most times, there are a few loose ends, though negligible, that you cannot overlook. The tiff between Guru and his bro-in-law Jignesh is one of those tracks. What actually brings about a rift between the two and why doesn't Jignesh reappear anywhere in the story later is not explained. Another track that doesn't really hold your attention is the one between Madhavan-Vidya Balan. Although the emotional sequence between them is a highpoint [the smooch that follows is aesthetically filmed], you still wish there was some more meat in this sub-plot. Moreover, the film can do without a song 'Ek Lo Ek Muft' [appears soon after Guru and his wife are blessed with twins] and also the pacing could've been tighter in the second half. GURU ranks amongst Mani Ratnam's finest attempts. In fact, it wouldn't be erroneous to state that the film is at par with his most accomplished works like NAYAKAN, AGNI NAKSHATRAM, GITANJALI, ROJA and BOMBAY. Every sequence in GURU bears the stamp of a genius and the outcome is tremendous. A.R. Rahman's music is in sync with the film. 'Maiya Maiya' at the start of the film [Mallika Sherawat] is sizzling, while 'Barso Re' [Ash's introduction] and 'Tere Bina' are melodious to the core. Rahman's background score is also topnotch. Rajiv Menon's cinematography is of international quality. The lensman captures the 1950s look, right to the present day setting, with flourish. Vijay Krishna Acharya's dialogues are of superior quality. The writing in the last twenty minutes is fantastic. Reserve all the awards for Abhishek Bachchan. No two opinions on that! His performance in GURU is world class and without doubt, a shade above his career-best work in YUVA. From a sharp teenager in Turkey to the biggest entrepreneur of the country, Abhishek handles the various shades this character demands with adroitness. He takes a giant leap with this film! Aishwarya Rai too stuns you with a powerful performance. Known for her angelic looks all the while, the actor will make people sit up and notice the reservoirs of talent in GURU. Also, the chemistry between Abhishek and Aishwarya is electrifying. Mithun Chakraborty is in form after a long, long time. And it's a pleasure to see the veteran deliver a natural performance from start to end. Madhavan's role could've been stronger, but he enacts it with йlan. Vidya Balan too suffers due to a weak characterization, but makes up with a confident performance. Arya Babbar is first-rate in a brief role. The film has a number of characters, but the ones who register a strong impact are Roshan Seth, Manoj Tyagi and Sachin Khedekar. On the whole, GURU is one of the finest films to come out of the Hindi film industry. At the box-office, its business will be excellent at the multiplexes as compared to the single screens. In fact, the business at the multiplexes [which are performing 12/14/18/20 shows a day] will be enough to make the film a success story in days to come. Strongly recommended, go for it! 4\5
olga: WATCH GURU FOR THE ACTORS Raja Sen January 12, 2007 18:12 IST Guru is the stuff of dreams, the fluff of escapism. It is cinema where protagonists succeed defying all odds and where young gophers in Shell tracksuits go on to address stadium-fulls of adoring shareholders. And, it comes complete with songs, thrown in with abrupt abandon. Except, because this is Bollywood, we've seen it all before. Rags to riches tales abound in the unreal song-and-dance world our stars jiggle around in, and we have seen protagonists come from nowhere to become superheroes, just like we've seen them fight 81 gangsters armed with their mother's blessings. Dare to dream, it announces proudly, but isn't that the moral of pretty much every masala Bollywood pikchur? Then again, Guru is a Mani Ratnam film. Which automatically ensures restraint and realism in the film and an almost hushed reverence in the audience. The film stops a few inches short of being a biopic, but the director bestows his character, Guru Kant Desai, with enough depth to make him feel as flesh-and-blood as you or me. Sure, there are enough superficial similarities with real life business icons, but the film (sadly?) isn't about men who share a corporate logo uncannily similar to the hero, it's about Guru. Period. And he's quite the character. Abhishek Bachchan plays the young Gujarati boy with stars in his eyes and an excessive urge to warm his pockets. After landing himself a job in Turkey (and cavorting with the supremely sexy Mallika Sherawat) he works his way up the corporate chain, before he decides he's got to go into business for himself. 'Bijness,' Guru'd say. Deciding to marry his closest friend's sister because of the dowry he can packet as his starting capital, our leading man strikes gold as he finds himself a dutiful, undeniably pretty wife in the bargain, played by Aishwarya Rai. Then comes his rise, with lots of happenstance. Strangely, Mani chooses not to dwell too much on his climb itself, preferring to show us bits of success interspersed with A R Rahman's spectacular music -- which, in this case, almost always overwhelms the film around it. So while we have young Guru seeing through a game of cups-and-balls at a Turkish fair and Guru ingeniously winning himself a crucial trading membership on the golf course, the incidents come at a slow clip, minus revelations or insight, with most of the action lying in Guru's crisply-written dialogue, the hero speaking almost exclusively in punchlines. And a rise so meteoric does indeed owe a tremendous debt to Miss Fortune. But the ambitious achievers, the ones out there trying to change the world around them while you're reading this review, aren't just lucky lads/lasses. They're the ones leaving absolutely no stone unturned, denying refusal and perpetually keeping eyes peeled for opportunity to exploit. So when a furious, sun burnt Guru glares at a big building at Mumbai's picturesque Marine Drive and happens to randomly run into the genial publisher of The Independent (Mithun Chakraborty) who happens to like people with a temper, the meeting is chance. The relationship that follows, is all Guru's doing. Guru is fuelled by a slew of strong performances. Abhishek Bachchan owns the movie, forcing audiences to sit up straight as it begins and making us laugh and applaud as he carries on. Bachchan forces himself under the skin of the character, and from gait to accent, proves constantly credible. He's impressive in every frame, as he ebulliently takes over an alien room by hopping onto a chair, or when he's trying to be ever so slightly slimy, polishing his spectacles and showing off his smarminess. He thrusts his chest out in jubilation, manages a paunch to rival his pregnant wife's, and can really, really hold his own (while channeling some of his dad's glorious anger) during a soliloquy. And then there's his lady. Aishwarya Rai starts off cold, breaking into song a few minutes after Ms Sherawat has wowed the crowds, and despite her newfound penchant for very low-cut cholis, she doesn't quite get you going. Until she reaches a railway station, as abandoned as in Dil Se, reads a Dear Jane letter from a spineless lover, and grits her teeth. This one's a fiery character, solid of resolve and while she melts irresistibly for her husband, is not likely to take nonsense from anyone else. Ash is disarmingly natural in the film, holding her own even in scenes where she's crippled by a lack of dialogue. There is a spontaneous freedom to her, and this is arguably her finest performance, visible especially when she takes over the film's climax. Mithunda may be a revelation to Bollywood audiences unfamiliar with his art-house work, but Mani uses him very well in a role that justifies his top billing in the movie's credits. His character is strong but with weaknesses, great but almost tempted to give up the nobility. Mithun portrays this inner conflict with terrific moderation, and is largely responsible for the film reaching a crescendo in the first half. As for the others, outside of a fine supporting cast culled from television, the lovely Vidya Balan is okay but somewhat wasted in a role that isn't as well-etched, and Madhavan proves, yet again, that he can mouth good-boy lines with extreme, believable sincerity. This one is truly a poster boy for India. Sadly, the film hinges on greatness, but decides to play it safe. Even as it builds up, with fabulous, infectious enthusiasm right up to the interval, it promises far more than the second half delivers. The film is about a gray character, about Guru Kant Desai (That's Gurubhai to you) who made questionable decisions, delved into illegality and made offers people couldn't refuse -- a man who never looked back in his overreaching urge to make more money. A character high on ambition, low on scruples and one who considers himself a messiah, albeit purely capitalistic. Yet while there is much ground to explore this conflict (and the film lays down the ammo in the first half), most of it is oversimplified. While the film does call Guru 'a smuggler' and 'a swindler,' it does so in hushed tones. The newspapermen are painted with near villainous colours, seeming to persecute the almost-blameless hero. Mani looks so besotted with his hero that the film virtually calls his crimes insignificant and inevitable. There is a point near the end when Guru vociferously likens himself and his fight for more to Gandhi's freedom struggle, and our jaws drop till he instantly retracts the scandalous line. This is irresponsible filmmaking coming from a director of such stature. It's disappointing seeing a non-biopic turn into such hagiography, and while it works completely -- save for a slightly winded second half -- as a masala film, it really had the potential to be Fantastic. The actor recently played a prank that had Aishwarya Rai blushing. Apparently he went around telling people, including co-star Mithun Chakraborty, that ash was fabulous singer. So when Mithunda saw ash perform, he began praising her talent before the unit, saying, “If I tell you that ash is a beautiful girl, a good dancer etc, you will say ‘big deal’ but did you know that she is a very good singer as well? Abhishek told me so.” Ash who was present, was already blushing at the praise from the veteran actor, she was shocked on hearing the last statement. That was when she realised that Abhu was behind mischief.

Abhishek Bachan has infused so much life into his character that you start thinking that he is actually a business tycoon ! His playful interactions with his mother, his respect towards his father and a restrained revolt against him, his optimist attitude towards setting up his "bijness", his love towards his wife and his relationship with his god daughter, and his revolt at the system..everything has been etched out so beautifully that even the subtlest of emotions have been brought out by Junior B in a way that lingers with you long after you have come out of the theatre..Abhishek has got under the skin of the character Gurubhai so much so that you begin to think that Guru really exists ! His body language over the time that charts his life from 15 - 70 also changes accordingly, from a young and restless youngster to a confirdent young entrepreuner to a more subdued and relaxed achiever..the dialogues that he speaks, almost every sentence ends with a punchline, that you have to think "well said" !! The best scenes among the best ones (there are no bad scenes really!) are the one when he comes back from Turkey and talks to his father regarding his intentions of setting up his own business, the scene where he throws the blank cheque, his anger that follows, his scene with his wife on the swing talking about their future, his scene in the hospital with his friend where he breaks down, his addressing of his employees first on a big stage and then later in the rain, the scene where Mithun calls him home and decides to expose him, the scene in the train with Ash, his final revolt in court and many many more...GURU is definitely an Abhishek film all the way and he carries it on his shoulders ever so efficiently..this will definitly be a milestone in the actor's career.. Coming to the rest of the actors, those who say that ASH can only look beautiful and not act can eat their words..standing by her husband's side through all the highs and lows, her persona elicits a confident, outspoken, yet conservative nature..her expression of anger mixed with hurt upon reading her lover's letter and her breakdown in the train afterwards are to be seen to be believed..the scene where she makes her daughters sing for their recuperating father is good..she is the confidante of Guru, all his anger and frustrations are handled by her in the most dignified manner, she however comes into her own towards the climax where she becomes the mouthpiece for Guru in the court, without her loving support and willpower, Guru would have lost..Mani Ratnam has managed to convey most of her emotions through her eyes, in a natural manner..even her body language from a bubbly and strongheaded village girl to a loving wife to a staunch supporter of Guru has been potrayed brilliantly by the actor..performance wise this would be one of the best in her career.. MITHUN CHAKARAVRTHY has finally got a role that he sink his teeth deep into..he has performed it so brilliantly that you wonder why this actor was wasted in B and C grade movies all these years..hs interactions with Guru, his mixed feelings of love and hate towards his god son, and his outburst at his staff running his newspaper firm have been excellently enacted by the actor..this should the comeback movie for this actor.. MADHAVAN albeit in a short role, has done well..he looks much younger and one of the scenes that stands out is the one where he exposes Guru's misdoings in the factory through an interview with the Director..his proposal scene with Vidya Balan is also well written although was a little taken aback with the lip lock that followed, aesthetic as it was ! VIDYA BALAN again in a short role has performed well..her relationship with her godfather Guru is cute ..the best scene where she gets to shine is the proposal one with Madhavan..however a weak characterization undermines her performance considerably... Others who stand out are the actors playing Guru's father, his friend from Turkey and Arya Babbar who plays his bro-in-law.. Direction is top notch..Mani as usual knows how to get the best out of every aspect mirroring the tiniest detail in a magnified format..this could easily be counted as one among his masterpieces.. Cinematography is excellent..where it manages to essay the old world feel via sepia/black and white tones to the 70s where its shot mostly in blue hues.. Music by RAHMAN is arousing..especially the background score which you actually find yourself humming after the movie is over (or was it just me ?)..arrangements and orchestration is rich and top class..truly one of his finest efforts ever, after RDB.. All in all, GURU is movie not to be missed..especially for the performance by our Gurubhai himself, Abhishek Bachan !!

The story, screen play, dialogues, cinematography, music, ensemble cast and above all the performance of Bacchan and Aishwarya! Credit goes to the captain of the ship, Mr. Ratnam! Way to go! He ahs truly made a film that inspires you, moves you and entertains you.. I am planning to watch it again, there are way too many nuances that you tend to miss out on Mani's films in the first go, he waves in many subtle layers... After Rang De Basanti last January, this is yet another January gift for movie buffs. I JUST HOPE IT CLICKS with the public so Mani Ratnam is encouraged to make teh movies that he believes in and give us more quality cinema in the years to come. Aishwarya looks fabulous with her natural looks and has given a subtle performance.. I take back my words when I said earlier that she is pretty but can't act. She proves that she CAN, and HOW!! Abhishek! Take a bow. You are the true star of the film! Others of your generation can learn a lesson or two from you. An award winning performance. Madhavan and Vidya, in spite of your brief roles, you excelled. Mithun, we are glad you made a strategic move to act in such a movie and not yet another B grade flick! You show us glimpses of what you are truly capable of! BRAVO!

As a supporter turned bitter enemy who detests Gurubhai's way of working and empire expansion, Mithun da has come up with a terrific and one of the most remarkable performances in his 3 decade old career. The 'taalis' and 'seetis' are not jut reserved for some quotable quotes by Abhishek Bachchan but even Mithun da who has shown his class as a veteran actor par excellence in the film. The film is directed by Subhash Kale, who also acts in the film. It also stars Nirmal Pandey, Sudesh Berry, Kiran Kumar, Hemant Birje, Sudesh Berry, Imran Khan, Kuldeep Tyagi and Rahul Khanna. Publicist Rajoo Kariya is the co producer of the film. "The language is something of a mixture of Rajasthani and Marwari languages spoken by Prithvi Raj Chauhan. I am told that even the former chief ministers of Maharashtra Vasantrao Naik and Sudhakarrao Naik spoke the 'Banjaran' language," says Kale. Shivram is based on real life incidents of farmers' suicides in Vidharba. Since it deals with a sensitive issue, we want to cast a veteran actor to play the title role of Shivram. We plan to meet Dharmendra, Nana Patekar and Mithun Chakraborty for this role. We have already shot one schedule in real locations of Vidharba. This Rs six million (Rs 60 lakh) film will be first showcased at all international film festivals and then dubbed in languages like Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati and Marwari for theatrical release. His evolution as an actor is clearly manifest in its entirety in the scene where he is suffering the paralytic stroke and the expressions that he has been able to evoke on his face without making any guttural utterance may become his school of expression for such scenes in future. Interestingly enough, about a decade and a few years ago, when Mithun was sort of strait-jacketed into his lots of loud dance dramas, it was AGNIPATH which had given a new lease of life to his career, opposite Amitabh Bachchan, and Mithun has sort of complimented back the help provided by senior Bachchan by playing a character role in GURU. In the bargain, though he has opened up a new career opportunity for himself. And the quawalli of Rahman that plays as a background score as well, either through the Indian instruments or on the western instruments, seems to be the binding musical node for the film. And from DHOOM-2 to a deglamourized GURU Aishwarya has also traveled a long mile, underlining the fact that she is a Director's actor. The thinking of Mani Sir, is evident from a very small fact that it could be probably for the first time that a business tycoon has been shown on the silver screen to have only daughters as the offspring. From Lallan in YUVA to Guru in GURU Abhishek Bachchan has indeed emerged as Guru amongst the actors. But retrospect doesn't treat the movie that kindly. Personally,the high point of the movie was Menon's handling of the camera. Every frame of the movie is desktop-wallpaper friendly. And though that might not be good for every kind of movie, Guru with its semi-period film setting and scope of locations deserved Menon's touch. Maniratnam as usual handles his subject and his actors with consummate ease though the pace of scenes where he builds his characters too fast or truncated. A.R. Rahman is brilliant by the non-intrusiveness of his music. The Guru chant that follows Gurukant Desai around might be very Bollywoodish but hey! this IS Bollywood. Abhishek and Mithun Chakraborty deliver the best performances in the movie. If Mithun had been given any more screen space than he was, he could've easily overshadowed Abhishek. Manikdas Gupta has... well...more character than Gurukant Desai. (Кто бы сомневался!) Aishwarya as usual is a huge letdown and a liability throughout the movie but her saving grace is her reasonable performance during the Trial scene. She manages to put herself in the center of every frame and refuses to look old at 50. When will she realise that acting doesn't mean that every frame needs to look like an Aishwarya Poster or desktop wallpaper? Madhavan and Balan are obviously wasted as characters with Madhavan delivering a sterling performance but summarily dismissed during the movie. As for the message, the less said the better. There are a few jarring moments when Maniratnam goes over the top trying to project Guru who is obviously a marketplace villain as a person who deserves what he wants. Whoever from India will believe that a Taxi-Driver is so knowledgeable about personal finance that he invests enough to marry off three daughters with "Shakti" shares? Indians who invest in shares (especially during the time the trial is set in) can hardly be the "Aam Aadmi" that Guru claims to love and serve. And on the contrary, IAS/IPS officers who Guru accuses as the self-serving elite are usually the ones who're from middle-class "Aam Aadmi" families. On the whole an enjoyable movie especially the spine-tingling scenes where Guru triumphs. The movie is all the more enjoyable if you're familiar with the real life story( Irrespective of his claims Guru is definitely based on the tycoon). You go home thinking you'll need to think about the movie but you don't. The movie doesn't deserve THAT much.

The superstar was ruling the roost when Amitabh mania had swept across the country. Another dashing star Vinod Khanna had gone into oblivion after dishin' out a hit like QURBANI. This was also the time when new faces had started appearing on the scene. Rishi Kapoor had already established himself as a brilliant actor and a superb dancer. Anil Kapoor had proven himself in WOH SAAT DIN. Jackie Shroff had become the HERO of the masses. Amidst this one shy and lanky man was trying to ring dash an impact in Bollywood. He was already a National award winner before he became a star. A low-budget movie MRIGYA had earned him this award and put his name on the producers' wish list. His acting potential was undoubted but what made him special was his dancing talent. In 1982, DISCO DANCER struck gold at the box-office and Mithun Chakraborty became an overnight sensation. Mithun's popularity was undaunted throughout the 80's and he had some bit hits of that decade to his credit. Who can forget his awesome performance in AGNEEPATH where he stole the show and bagged a FilmFare Award in return. But the rise of another dancing hero and an equally competent actor Govinda put Mithun on the sidelines. So much so that in the 90's Mithun just vanished from the scene. Strangely he started doing some scruffy B-grade flicks, which were an absolute contrast to what he did in the 80's. These B-grade flicks did good business in the interiors and also brought quick money for their producers, but it did no good to Mithun or the actor in him. But this talented actor made a rather noticeable comeback in none other than Vikram Bhatt's ELAAN. He also did a cameo in LUCKY. But the movies bombed at the box-office and hence Mithun's comeback didn't simmer a lot. But Kalpana Lajmi's forthcoming film CHINGARI might just do the trick for him. CHINGARI is the story of a prostitute and depicts the politics of sex. Sushmita Sen plays the prostitute and Mithun plays the man with the gray shades. The latest discovery Anuj Sahwney also plays a major part in the film. The movie is already in the news for some sensuous lovemaking scenes on Mithun and Sush. Though the premise of the film is still under the wraps it still makes for a huge anticipation as it comes from the director of the acclaimed RUDALI, DAMAN. Kalpana Lajmi is famous for handling the subject in a soothingly realistic approach without going overboard with emotional melodrama. This year however has been some sort of a relaunch time for many yesteryear actors. Jackie Shroff made his presence felt in ANTARMAHAL. Sharmila Tagore was impressive in VIRUDDH and the ethereal Waheeda Rehman is ready to sprinkle her charm in Aparna Sen's 15TH PARK AVENUE. Amrita Singh will be seen in Mahesh Bhatt's latest KALYUG. Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia revived their on-screen magic in PYAAR MEIN TWIST. Hema Malini was amazing in BAGHBAN. Sure one must be feeling really warm and especially the past generations would be feeling nostalgic to see all these languishing actors back in form and definitely a big treat for all their fans! Yes, Mani had offered me a role in his Tamil film Iruvarwhich I didn't accept because I was required to cut my hair,” Mithun says. However, Mithun says that Ratman was a focused director. About his co-stars in Guru he says, "All my young co-stars, Abhishek (Bachchan), Aishwarya (Rai), Madhavan and Vidya (Balan), are lovely to work with." Mithun also feels the film industry has come a long way technically. "Yes, things have improved technically. The atmosphere is far more cutthroat. The media is far more active today. That makes the stars far more conscious of doing the right things,” he says. Mithun, who does three-four Bengali films every year, confesses he moved to Ooty in the 1980s for the sake of his family. "Because I didn't want to die with an actor's shoes on. I've no ambitions to die as an actor. I want to secure my children's future. They shouldn't suffer when I'm not here. My daughter is only nine,” he says. His next Hindi release is Hansal Mehta's Raakh. "It's a mafia story and I play an elder brother's role,” Mithun says. Mithun is a versatile actor and his range of films extends from Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya to TLV Prasad's Jallad. "Let's not forget I play Ramkrishna Paramhans, which got me my third National Award. So, I've played everything, from disco dancer to jallad to God. Yes, it has been a long journey,” he says. Mithun had incidentally done a film called Guru in the 1980s. "I had also done a Guru in Bengali. So, this is my third Guru. Both in the past have been very big hits. I'm sure this will be my third successful Guru My God! Such a long journey,” he sighs. Его мнение - фильм о вреде длительного воздержания и эта девочка (даром, что профессионалка) просто побоялась, что ну не потянет этого Ачарью, за столько лет в нем столько этого нерастраченного накопилось, что по сравнению с ним молодой партнер - просто бледная немочь, а судя по другим фильмам, этот Митхун (не кусайтесь, это не мои слова!) таких Доли на завтрак, обед и ужин потребляет.

At the peak of his career Mithun decided to do a whole lot of substandard films. 'I don't know why you should call them sub-standard,' he says, jumping to his movies' defence. 'Those were also very big hits, for example 'Jallad'. How do you classify them as A-grade or B-grade? Sure, you can classify them as small-budgeted films. Any actor, who doesn't know the economics of filmmaking, is bound to flop. 'You need to know your market value. And if you consider yourself a big star in your head, then you'll fall flat on your face. Just because I'm a big star in Bengal I can't ask for Rs.5 million in Mumbai. 'To stay in the business I had to know the market and my own value in and out. That's how those films that you call substandard films happened. If I'm still around today it's because I did all those films... big small, good or bad or ugly.' Mithun's range extends from Mrinal Sen's 'Mrigaya' to T.L.V. Prasad's 'Jallad'. 'And let's not forget I play Ramkrishna Paramhans, which got me my third National Award. So, I've played everything, from disco dancer to jallad to god... Yes, it has been a long journey.' Красота - категория субъективная, но все-таки древние греки пытались ответ на этот вопрос найти, и определили каноны красоты. Я тоже решила "алгеброй гармонию поверить", взяла фотографию Митхуна (все-таки он меня интересует в первую очередь), для желающих повторить: (фото - строго в анфас, губы сомкнуты, глаза без обычного прищура, освещение - прямое); по вертикали - лицо делится на три части, измерения: от подбородка до носа, длина носа, высота лба должны быть равны. При измерении лица по горизонтали (за модуль обычно берется длина глазной щели) существуют свои параметры (описывать долго, кто заинтересуется, могу написать подробнее, также можно почитать специальную литературу, сейчас такой наверняка много). Результат моих измерений - у Митхуна АБСОЛЮТНО правильные черты лица (хотя в Индии, возможно, свои критерии). Хорошая "лепка головы". Недостатки - немного неровная линия бровей и некоторая "лопоухость". Встречала высказывания относительно полноты его губ, но именно такие губы рисуют себе почти все фотомодели, желая почеркнуть сексуальность. Любое правильное лицо будет "безжизненным", если лишено каких-то индивидуальных особенностей. У Митхуна, на мой взгяд, лицо "делает" сочетание редкой, можно сказать идеальной, формы носа и очень чувственных губ. Фигура (измерения лучше проводить по фото, на которых объект изображен в плавках, разумеется, в полный рост). Митхун - пропорции фигуры безупречны, особенности: явно выраженное астеническое сложение, очень узкая кость, но при этом - глубокая грудная клетка. Общее впечатление - ассоциации со скульптурами Поликтета (например - Дорифор, не в смысле объема,а именно пропорций). Я думаю, такие мини-тесты можно проделать в отношении любого субъекта. Но есть момент, который трудно подогнать под какие-то рамки - общее впречатление. В данном случае можно говорить "о породистости" этого актера и очень редком сочетании мягкости без женоподобности и мужественности без резкости и грубости.
Олеся1985: Ну не знаю как там на счет идеальной внешности, но даже если бы он был косым и кривым(тьфу-тьфу),я бы осталась ему верна Дело не в его красоте и фигуристости, тут другое....... Митхун просто излучает волны привлекательности, у него дикий животный магнетизм (и самое интересное,с возрастом это не уходит), такой что просто крышу сносит Енто все харизма, блин....он толпы может повести за собой, он мог бы стать прекрасным политическим лидером...во....
