Who would you cast as your hero? Heroine? What would your story be? How about a Bengali film starring Mithun Chakaborty? How about a story with Mithunda in the lead as a person who takes on the corrupt political establishment and wins? And I am talking 2006, not the 70s or 80s when Mithun was a big star. Depends on your objective. If you want to double (or whatever) your money, you would look at Srikant Mohta. MLA Phatakeshto, is the movie in question. If you were an investor, you would be very happy to know the business it has generated. The film — MLA Phatakeshto — is a super hit, grossing Rs 3 crore in three weeks. Its producer and distributor, Shrikant Mohta of Shree Venkatesh Films, believes that by the time it bows out of the theatres, it will have collected Rs 8-9 crore, quite unprecedented for a Bengali film. The classic case of doubling your money on penny stocks (Bhojpuri film boom), while the blue chips (Bollywood) get their 20-30% return on a huge outlay.

He is quite busy shooting his film at Bharat Lakshmi Studio, another rarity as he always prefers shooting his films in exterior locations so that the colour and shade of nature conflate spontaneously in the fabric of his subjective cinema, often taking the form of allegory or metaphor. Another surprise is Hindi actress Sameera Reddy who is making her debut in Bengali films. But the great attraction of the film is veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty who got his third successive National award as the best actor in his film Tahader Katha. The choice goes for Sameera Reddy, according to the director, because of her ‘Bengali-look’. Surprising is her gesture and movement. Facial look is the trump card for Sameera. She looks like ‘a typical middle-class Bengali-bou’ (wife). Based on his own story America America, Kalpurush explores father-son relationship at the crossroads. He says, “I needed an intense face like Rahul’s for this character who is a loser. His wife (played by Sameera) is very ambitious and wants to rise above her modest moorings.” Rahul Bose says he is playing the ‘invisible man, an everywhere man’ one who doesn’t have any ambition or desire. As per the script, there’s this unresolved relationship with his father. He is not romantic but has a sense of romanticism. “It is one of my most favourite characters”, said Rahul Bose. Mithun Chakraborty is playing his screen father. Said Mithun Chakraborty, once Mrinal Sen’s blue-eyed boy , who won his first ever National award for his life-like portrait of Ghinua in the Hindi film Mrigaya years ago, “It seems a very interesting character. Not like the one I did in Dasgupta’s Tahader Katha some years ago. Here the role demands another dimension, a serious one but never a full-fledged ripped-open character. Its nuances are of separate hue, yet interesting.” While Rahul Bose acknowledges his debt to the director, one must thank Aparna Sen for opening the inner talent of the actor in her award-winning film Mr & Mrs Iyer (English), a pretty serious film on ethnic chaos ripping through the country on one hand and imperishable humanity and survival on the other. For Buddhadeb Dasgupta, this experiment seems to be another ‘litmus test’. Long-term run of his film is just an absurdity as it is the fate of major filmmakers of the world. But one hopes, Kalpurush will talk about topical reality, often harsh, unfriendly and grating. It is time he went back to the brink of real crisis of times and its uncertainty and stirred up genuine sympathies far above the mere ‘surreal compositions’, a trademark of the director. ********** Кто-то дальтоник?

As the young lad steps into Bollywood, let’s hope for his sake, that history repeats itself. You will soon be making you debut in Bollywood. Let’s talk about your role in the film Jimmy. I’m actually not allowed to say much about the character! I can tell you that I play a DJ who is also a car engineer. He is born to rectify cars. From morning to night, he is a car mechanic, whereas in the night, he is a DJ. So its two parts in one role! Your father had also played the role of Jimmy, years ago. Will we see any similarities? Only the name is the same. The characters are different. People still identify the name Jimmy with your father. Oh yes, definitely. Today also, if you go anywhere in Russia, people know my father as Jimmy. (Ох уж эти люди! ) Jimmy is an important name in my life. In the first film itself, I get to play two characters i.e. a DJ and a car mechanic. Apart from that, I also play a son, friend, boyfriend and of course a hero! I get to dance, romance, fight and display emotions in one film. I never thought that I will get such a good opportunity. I think Jimmy is the perfect launch for me. I think Mithun being my father will help me for my first film. In that sense people will go and watch me. Your father comes on your sets frequently to watch your shoots. How do you feel? It is an honor. While growing up, we always used to be on his film sets, watching him shoot. I can’t express how happy I feel. It is like a dream when he visits me on the sets. (Еще бы! ) With Mithun Chakraborthy being your father, do you think that you have an edge over others? I think him being my father will help me for my first film. In that sense people will go and watch me. They will want to see how good or bad I am. I have my surname which has a positive and negative side. The positive side of course is that people will want to watch me. The negative side is that there will be too many comparisons. I can’t run away from the comparisons. I will have to face them. Mithun Chakraborthy has a style of his own. He can dance, fight and the works. To be compared with him is a little too much because he has done so much work. At the same time, the comparison will be helpful as well, since it will help me improve in the areas that I lack. I have my surname which has a positive and negative side. And I hope that we are all your money’s worth. Your dad also has a hotel business. Do you have any interest in that? Yes, I definitely have an interest. But films are my passion. My dad has a backup plan ready for me. This line is very unpredictable. Anything can happen here. No one can predict anything. He tells me that if I don’t click here, I have three hotels, a college and a school to choose from! So I have a Plan B. When I stand on my own feet, I want to take up my dad’s responsibilities. Then, I will tell him to enjoy while I will take up the responsibilities.

olga: Он как-то попытался в каком-то из их совместных интервью, что-то брякнуть про количество баб, на что Митхун ему сказал что-то вроде "по-моему, ты переходишь рамочки" Все, вопрос отпал.
Margo: Может я чего то не понимаю или у меня со зрением проблемы, что то ни Мимох не похож на Мита.Вы уж меня простите Ну во-превых он свтло волосый,во вотрых если у Мита кожа смуглая(темненькая)то у Мимоха светлая .Он больше похож на евпроайца,англичанина ,американца чем на индуса .А этот племяничек тоже какой-то светлинкий,вообщем что то я не могу понять,какая-то Санта-Барбара.

Вот младший Ремо - вылитый, по моему мнению, папа.. Тока не надо говорить, что если я фанатка Баччанов, то ничего не понимаю.. Мой первый кумир (под влиянием большенства) был Митхун.. Он мне до сих пор нравится (но в фильмах до 1991 г.) и коллекция открыток и плакатов у меня до сих пор остаётся.. может оскудела, но есть!!
