wichy: [a target=_new href=http://www.glamsham.com/movies/scoops/08/jan/07-mithun-da-back-after-a-year-010806.asp]отсюда[/a][!--url--] - про предстоящие релизы Митхуна в 2008 г. Exactly a year back Mithun Chakraborty was seen in a roaring performance in GURU. The film starred him as Manikdas Guptha, a Newspaper owner, who was fondly called Nanaji and shared a love-hate relationship with his disciple (Abhishek Bachchan). Directed by Mani Rathnam, the film had released on 12th January 2007. Now exactly a year later, he would be seen in a principal role once again as Father Briganza in the film MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES. To be released in a few days from now i.e. on 11th January, the film sees him play a guardian angel to the lead protagonist Anthony (Nikhil Dwivedi). Directed by E Niwas, the film showcases a warm and endearing relationship between Anthony and Father Briganza. In fact, Mithun da's character is not only Anthony's father figure, he is also his moral guardian, who, in due course of time, helps him choose between right and wrong. In between GURU and MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES, he was seen on the big screen but that was for a brief appearance in the song and dance number 'Deewangee' in Shahrukh Khan's OM SHANTI OM. Incidentally, MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES also has a Shahrukh Khan connection as Red Chillies Entertainment is the Line Producer of the film. 2008 would see number of Mithun da films arriving on the silver screen. Apart from MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES, he would also be seen in the Bengali film KAAL PURUSH - MEMORIES OF THE MIST. Directed by Budhdev Das Gupta, the film also stars Rahul Bose and Sameera Reddy. Hansal Mehta directed RAAKH is also ready for release and features Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora and Eesha Koppikhar along with Aditya Srivastav. Samir Karnik directed HEROES is an episodic biggie that is all set for a 1st May release. The film boasts of a mega star cast which includes Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan, Vatsal Sheth, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora and Riya Sen along with Mithun da.

olga: Mithun Chakraborty: The perfect artiste 22 Dec, 2007 11:27 am IST l INDIATIMES MOVIES Actor Mithun Chakraborty is every filmmaker’s delight. And director of Don Muthuswami , Ashim Samanta tells us why. "Mithun has become as good as the best in the industry. He had asked us for the entire script of the film in advance, and would daily ask us which scenes we were shooting. He would then go through the scenes, make his notes and rehearse the scenes with all the artistes four to five times. Whether others liked it or not, they had to practice the scene before the take. Naturally, this reduced my burden". We’re sure the filmmakers are saying Don-don-a-don to their perfect casting.

olga: Coming soon "Don Muthuswami" Here is some good news for Mithun Chakraborty fans as well as those who prefer hilarious comedies on the celluloid. Here is some good news for Mithun Chakraborty fans as well as those who prefer hilarious comedies on the celluloid. After a long break, Mithun is back in a stellar role in ‘Don Muthuswami’ The film shot under the banner of Samanta Movies Pvt Ltd is being presented by Shakti Samanta and directed by his son Asim Samanta. In addition to Mithun, the star cast of the film includes Hrishta Bhatt, Rohit Roy, Mohit Raina and Anusmriti. The music for the film has been scored by Anu Mallik. ‘Don Muthuswami’ promises to kill the audience with laughter unless they cry for mercy! It’s a comedy flick which presents the Mumbai underworld of the early 70s with dons dominating all around. And Mithun Chakraborty portrays the role of one such don. The storyline of the film is as follows: Muthuswami's father is on his deathbed and Muthu comes to see him and pay his last respect. As he comes close to his father, his father slaps Muthu and tells him that he has brought shame to the family by being a gangster and that he would die an unhappy man. The don asks his father what he could do to bring his father peace in his last moments. His father extracts a promise from Muthu that he would go straight. Thus, begins the ‘drama of don’ trying to transform into a gentleman. Next, Muthu tells his henchmen to continue working for him, but now instead of being gangsters they have to work as domestic helps. He engages an Urdu/Hindi teacher Jaikishan (Mohit Raina) to improve his language and commences his journey to transform from ‘Don Muthuswami’ to ‘Sir Muthuswami’. The storyline takes a twist when it is time to get ‘Sir Muthuswami’s’ daughter Sanjana (Hrishita Bhatt) married. While Muthu considers his very good friend ‘Don Vardhan's’ son Pradhan to be the best match for Sanjana, the girl refuses to oblige. To avoid marriage, Sanjana lies that she is pregnant. Muthu's general manager, Preetam (Rohit Roy), who wants to marry Muthu's daughter, is another dimension of this comic confusion. He had been stealing regularly from Muthu, to become a millionaire. The confusion enhances when Ranjana (Anusmriti) tells Muthu that she loves his accountant Preetam. She also admits to Muthu that she had lied to Preetam about being Muthu's daughter. In the meanwhile, Sanjana and Jaikishan fall in love with each other and make things more complicated. How does Muthu get back the loot from Preetam? Who is the father of Sanjana's baby? Who marries whom? Who Is Ranjana? What happens to the rival gangsters? How does Don Muthuswami handle the police? If all these make you curious, wait for and watch "Don Muthuswami". And needless to say, Mithun Chakraborty gives another classic performance in the film. -(SAMPURN)

Mithun and Bappi's sons team up for Jimmy Sunil Shetty, who has signed the star-son for Loot, thinks Mimoh dances like a dream. Mithun Chakraborty's son whose debut film Jimmy releases in February proved he had inherited his dancing skills from his father when he danced for 50 days for one song sequence in his debut film Jimmy. The thought of refurbishing and pepping up Mimoh's debut film with a lavish item song came from the concerned father Mithun himself. When Mithun-da saw the finished product with his old friend Raj Sippy directs, he thought something else needed to be added to the product, hence the item song. The shy newcomer describes the number 'Marhabba Yeh Rab MeraRooth Gaya', choreographed by Nadeem Khan, as the most exhilarating start any newcomer can hope for. "I don't know if I dance half as well as Anna Sir (Suniel) or my Dad thinks. But the number which we rehearsed and shot over a stretch of fifty days just made me feel so proud to be where I was and of my Dad's legacy that I'm carrying forward." Shooting this baap of all item songs was a journey in time for Mithunda's baba. "The song was choreographed by Nadeem Khan who has done many of my father's songs and it was composed by Bappa Lahiri, Bappida's son. When I remember all the songs that Bappida and my dad teamed up to create history, I get goosebumps. In fact, my debut film's title Jimmy comes from a chartbuster composed by Bappida for dad." Bappa and Mimoh are buddies. "And hopefully some of our dads' magic has rubbed off on both of us," says Mimoh hopefully as he waits nervously for D Day. And while Mimoh has one of Bollywood's abiding star as a guiding light at home. He gets to match strides with another dancing star in his two post-debut films. "Govindaji, whom I hero-worship along with my dad, is my co-star in my next two films Dharmesh Darshan's untitled film and Suneil Sir's Loot. And I've to dance with Govindaji in both! I guess more than my debut film I've reason to be nervous about what comes afterwards." Incidentally, Mimoh's co-star in Dharmesh Darshan's film is Hansika Motwani who was supposed to make her debut with Mimoh two years ago. "I guess it's a small world, even if it's show-world," says Mimoh.

Xenia: olga :

All’s fair in love The Mahaguru will now make an appearance in a Bangladeshi venture. Directed by Amjad Hussain, this film is titled Golapi Ekhon Bilete. In fact, Mithun Chakraborty is the only Indian actor in the flick. The rest of the cast include Moushumi Sabnur, Firdaus and Sharmili among others. The story revolves round a female character Golapi. She divorces her husband in Bangladesh and goes abroad. There he meets Mithun (Mithun Chakraborty) who has a daughter. In fact, Mithun and Golapi had earlier known each other. But their affair never culminated in marriage. Golapi starts living with Mithun but the thought of starting a new life with him never occurs to her. Golapi’s sole aim is shifted to bringing up Mithun’s daughter, Tumpa. When Tumpa comes of age, she develops a soft corner for Mukta (Firdaus). But her dad doesn’t approve of the affair. This time around, Golapi supports Tumpa’s choice as she blames Mithun for her sad fate. What happens next is what the film is all about. While the crew is shooting in Kolkata for the time being, they are also planning to shoot in other locales.

Xenia: Leetah : develops a soft corner

Helping hand A birdie tells us that Mithun Chakraborty recently called Govinda and asked him to push his son Mimoh’s career and get him lucrative offers in the industry, “Govinda got a call from Mithunda (Chi Chi’s a big fan of Mr Chakraborty) and he quickly agreed. Not only has the actor taken Mimoh under his wing, he has also recommended Mimoh’s name to the producers of the multi-starrers that he is being offered.” Guru and chela will be seen together in Popcorn Entertainment’s Loot directed by Rajneesh Thakur and the other is a movie produced by Vijay Galani and directed by Dharmesh Darshan. Umm... didn’t Govinda need Salman’s help to get a job just a couple of months back?

А почему не перевела - (Chi Chi’s a big fan of Mr Chakraborty) (Чи-Чи большой фанат мистера Чакраборти) это очень приятно слышать и от Говинды тоже....

Xenia: The Myth Breaker 3 Feb 2008, 0000 hrs IST,MANDVI SHARMA ,TNN The story goes that when Mithun Chakraborty reached the sets to shoot for Om Shanti Om’s special appearance song where half the industry put in an appearance, the crew went berserk. A junior crew person jumped in front of Mithun and Shah Rukh, handed the Badshah of the industry a camera and asked him to click a picture of his with Mithunda! And there is no questioning the story after what DT saw at Chandni Chowk the other day. The moment Mithun reached the rooftop of a house, the area erupted in the chants of ‘I am a disco dancer’. The presence of superstar Akshay Kumar, who is also shooting with Mithun for Chandni Chowk to China, was forgotten in the frenzy! Mithun did his famous Disco Dancer jig which was immediately captured in mobile phone cameras by people all around him. “ Itne door se mera picture milega ?” he laughed and added, “Earlier I was wondering how they’ll shoot in Chandni Chowk, but the crowd here is very nice and disciplined.” And what makes him such a phenomenon amongst the masses? “That is because I am the guy next door, the myth breaker. Main na ummeed ki ummeed hoon! When people look at me, they say, ‘If Mithun can do it, so can I.’ Maybe because I have never had a godfather in the industry, and the fact that I have done all kinds of roles,” he says, and goes on to explain, “It was thought that dark-skinned heroes can’t make it in Bollywood, I broke that myth. It was said that India won’t take to disco-dancing, I broke that myth. And despite being a commercial actor who catered to the masses, I managed to gave performances that fetched me three national awards.” And even today, the man is keeping himself busy with acting and his hotel business. “I love to cook, do gardening and I also love animals. I have hotels that I make sure do well. I am like any other businessman today,” he says. Mithun’s son Mimoh will soon be making his debut in movies. “Well, the difference between him and me is that when I entered the industry, I did not have a roof over my head. He does! But I have to confess that he is a delight to watch when he dances. He is 25 per cent better than me.”

Xenia : He is 25 per cent better than me

olga: ek nodir galpo – a re-review Starring Mithun Chakraborty, Shweta Prasad, Anjan Srivastav, Krishnakishore Mukherjee, Nirmal Kumar, Bulbul Choudhury and Jishu Sengupta Story Sunil Gangopadhyay Screenplay and Dialogue Samir Chanda Editing Sanjib Dutta Audiography Anup Mukherjee Make-up Debi Haldar Production Design Samir Chanda Cinematography Rajen C Kothari Music Nachiketa Produced by Sangeeta Ajay Agarwal and Lila Chanda Directed by Samir Chanda Synopsis Darakeshwar is the village postmaster. He lives with his only daughter Anjana who becomes the only girl in the village to graduate from high school and take admission in the city college. The doting father waits at the bus stop every evening to fetch his daughter as she returns from the city. One evening, Anjana does not come back. Just as the villagers climb onto their gossip machine, the body of the girl is fished out of the Keleghai river that runs along the village. Darakeshwar’s first reaction is to refuse to accept the truth. When he actually sees his daughter’s body, he decides, in the face of the scandalized villagers, to give the girl a river burial. “She is not dead. She will come back to life,” he says, mainly to himself. Instead of filing a FIR that could bring the culprit to book, he makes it his life’s mission to change the name of the river from Keleghai to Anjana, after his dead daughter. He forgets about his job, about his basic needs and trots from pillar to post, trying to find out how the name of the river can be changed. For the officials he visits, it is an appeal they have never heard of before – changing the name of a river – who has ever heard of this? They find it strange that a father whose daughter has been gang-raped, murdered and her body dumped in the very river whose name he seeks to change and she loved so dearly, does not care about bringing the culprits to book. They think he is a nut case. Little boys pelt stones at him as he canvases his cause from village to village, laughed and ogled at, made the butt of jokes and given up as a lost case. At the end of the day, he sits on the riverbank and talks to his dead daughter. A young and honest police officer begins a manhunt for the killers of the young girl on his own. He catches the gang of rapists who killed the girl but Darakeshwar is unmoved. He finally decides to solve his problem on his own. The sympathetic district magistrate, unable to help him officially or legally, helps in his personal capacity. As Darakeshwar tries to dig a hole on the riverbank to put in a wooden post with a banner with ‘Anjana’ written on it, the DM tells him, “I will dig the hole and you put in the post.” Is strict fidelity to the original literary source possible? Or is it even necessary? Should we, as viewers, take fidelity as a methodological principle to be followed by the filmmaker who chooses to adapt a literary source to make his film? All these questions get raised as one watches production designer Samir Chanda’s entry into direction with Ek Nadir Galpo. Based on a story Ekti Nodir Naam, authored by the noted Sunil Gangopadhyay that haunted Chanda from the time he was in college, Ek Nodir Galpo moves beyond the limitations of the written word. It defines grief as an overwhelming emotion that can change the life of a man, less than ordinary, radically and irreversibly for an extraordinary and unique cause. Ek Nodir Galpo is a poignant celluloid document that throws up an extraordinary perspective on the dedication of a human being towards a cause that may seem crazy to most. Through what may seem a simple story of love between a father and his motherless daughter, the film subtly but steadily covers other areas such as, our losing link with nature presented metaphorically through the river; the casual negligence of officialdom when the person approaching it is either thought to be nutty, or poor, or both; the value-centric integrity that still sustains among a few officers; the empathy that sometimes peeps out of the steel exterior of a strict DM; the river presented as a physical reality, as an integral part of the lives of those who live near it, the river as a metaphor for the anger presented through high tide, as a vehicle of death, as a soother of the mind, as a carrier of dead bodies, as an indirect upholder of the human spirit; and finally, the river as a symbol of Darakeshwar’s dead daughter if only through its imaginary new name – Anjana. The river is an omnipresence that carries ambivalent meanings throughout the film. True to its name, symbolically speaking, the film is more the story of a river than of a father and his daughter. At the heart of the film, its life and soul is the superb performance of Mithun Chakraborty as Darakeshwar. As he struggles to get the river named after his daughter, he changes his looks, his body language and even his voice. He stops shaving or going for a haircut becoming oblivious to the tattering clothes on his body, or the strange stares of people as he stands up on a makeshift podium to make an impromptu speech asking the people to sign on his signature campaign, or, to the boys who pelt him with stones as he walks by. Contrast this to the scenes with him as the smiling father laughing away at his daughter’s pranks, or making plans for her future and you see one of the most memorable performances come alive on screen by any actor in any language in the history of Indian cinema. This is perhaps Mithun’s best performance ever, Mrigaya (1976) and Tahader Katha, notwithstanding. Shweta Prasad as the adolescent daughter Anjana is a natural performer who does not betray any awe about acting with one of the best actors Indian cinema has ever produced. Krishnakishore Mukherjee as the kindly but stern DM and Jishu Sengupta as the conscience-ridden police officer are very good too as are Bulbul Choudhury as the concerned neighbour and Rahul Prasad as her grandson. Nachiketa who has done the musical score for the film, revives an old folk number sung by young brides and marriageable girls. The song offers a point of relief in the tragic story of love on the one hand and the strength of the human spirit on the other. The music has a gentle flow to it, in harmony with the river flowing along. Rajen C Kothari’s cinematography is low-key and subtly captures the village ambience with its browns and ambers aesthetically. Shot almost entirely on location along the banks of the river Bhagirati, in a village called Naliapur in Burdwan district, the film is a rich visual experience. Anup Mukherjee’s sound design flows like the soft and soothing waves of the Keleghai river. Sanjib Dutta’s editing does justice to the dramatic changes in the mood of the film from innocent joy, to a bonding between two individuals, through shock, grief, moving from the village to the neighbouring town into government offices to village market places and streets only to come back, like the proverbial bad coin, again and again, to the banks of the Keleghai river. Chanda’s dialogue retains the local inflections of the Bengali dialect spoken by the region the film portrays. There are three National Award winners sharing the credits of the film. One is director Samir Chanda himself who, as production designer, has won several National Awards, Mithun Chakraborty is another National Award winner several times over and the third is Shweta Prasad, who won the National Award for the Best Child Artiste in 2003. But these hardly count in a film where the contribution of every single member of the team speaks for itself. One hopes Chanda sustains the spirit of excellence and dedication he reveals in his first film, much like his protagonist’s single-minded dedication to attain an incredible goal. In a film like this, you can cheerfully forget the story it has been adapted from. For Ek Nodir Galpo, the film is the story.

выдержка о Митхуне - - But a few years ago you did make some wrong choices... like some of the movies you did with Mithun Chakraborty? Mithunda is three times National Award winner. Is there anybody here who’s won the award thrice? I’m fond of Mithunda. - It’s not about Mithun, it’s about the choice of movies at that time? Chalta hai! Height hai, body hai, awaaz hai, discipline hai, kissi ke saamne khade hue toh pehle mein dikhta hai! Yes, at times I have done movies because some filmmakers requested me to.

Mithun’s chilling tales The cold wave hasn’t even spared our Bollywood actors who are used to shooting in harsh conditions. Take for instance Mithun Chakraborty. The disco dancer has been non-stop shooting for his film Chandi Chowk to China in the freezing climate of Delhi. The actor who couldn’t bare the cold anymore decided to take a break and rushed to Bombay. But unfortunately like all other Mumbaikar’s Mithun was surprised by the cold wave in Mumbai. Well it looks like our Bengali babu who is so not used to this cool climate will have to bear with it, at least for a while.

olga: Алёна : freezing climate of Delhi ну так уж и freezing!

Wolf: I’m the hope for the hopeless’ Author: Subhash K Jha Date: 24 Feb 2008 Mithun Chakraborty is on an even keel. The Bengali superstar today has roles being written specially for him. In this forthright chat, Mithunda discusses his favourite subjects, son Mimoh included You were nominated for several awards for your performance in Guru last year. Yes, but I don’t like to talk about my achievements. In fact, you got your first National Award for your very first film Mrigayaa. Yes, followed by another National award two years later. I don’t want to say this again. But I am the man who came to Mumbai with nothing except my dreams, no godfather, no support. You were the only Bengali actor to make it so big. That’s because I knew the problems that affected Bengali actors, like the accented Hindi. Mine isn’t that good. But definitely passable. Personality-wise, I wanted to project myself as…. Macho? Yes, I guess so. The unusual have always been welcome in Mumbai. And I broke the myth of the fair-skinned, chocolate-box hero. I proved even the ordinary boy next door can make it. You always connected the audience…a brother, a son, a father-figure I’ve reached 350 films. I’ve been mentioned in the Limca Book Of Records. I’m shy of speaking about myself. But 249 films as a leading man in Hindi has to be sort of a record. Even as I say this, I feel awkward. But this is the era of self-promotion. I believe your work speaks for you. And what work are you doing right now? I’ve done a spoofy gangster’s part in Don Muthuswamy. I play a South Indian don who has migrated to Mumbai. Then I just finished Ghosla for Gemini Studios. I play a National Award-winning sculptor who wants Marathi culture to thrive, but finds himself a misfit in today’s generation. Out of frustration, he leads a life of anonymity on the footpath. It’s absolutely splendid. I also have Sujoy Ghosh’s next big film which he’s producing. Very interesting work. Sujoy is a big fan of yours? I’m so lucky, yaar. To be working with these guys who are my fans. It’s so interesting to be doing a variety of roles. I remember in 1995, a weird thing happened. I got a National Award for playing Rama Krishna Paramhans. During the same year, I got the best villain’s popular award for Jallad. Isn’t it amazing? Getting applauded for playing bhagwaan and shaitaan in the same year. When you were staying in Ooty, did you feel you did too many down-market potboilers? Maybe, but I had no choice. The money I borrowed from banks had to be paid back. I also had to create a secure bank balance for my family. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? I didn’t want to die with my dancing shoes on. I know ek din to neeche aana hai. So I cashed in on my name when I was popular. You can call those films down market. But it’s those films that brought my family financial security. Has Mani Ratnam’s Guru triggered off a new phase in your career? Yes, there’s a strange dichotomy in my career. While in Mumbai, I’m getting patriarch roles. In Kolkata, they still want me to play the hero, the messiah of the masses. Yes, I’m the action hero in Bengal. I insist on doing two Bengali films a year. Then there are seven-eight films in Hindi. Out of the ten films coming my way, I’m playing the protagonist in seven. Your son Mimoh’s debut has been delayed? I wouldn’t call it a delay. A film has to have its momentum and finesse. We saw Mimoh’s film Jimmy and thought it needed extra songs. Now we feel it’s complete. I get very upset when people snigger about the delay. But we couldn’t release the film until we were satisfied. The theatrical trailer came prematurely, but that’s because Salman and Sohail Khan love Mimoh very much. They insisted on putting a song of Jimmy with Partner. As a father, I think Jimmy is ready. Mimoh’s cash-factor is his dancing. I’ve trained him for six years. He has all the potential for stardom. Again, like me, he’s unconventional. He has his mother’s looks. Imagine how much he’d have to struggle if he looked like me (laughs loudly). Seriously, I was the hope for the hopeless. Main uski asha hoon jiski koi asha nahin. People who come to this city of dreams look at me and say, ‘If he can make it, so can we.’ Why does anyone need a godfather? People laugh at me for not producing a film for my son. Who produced my first film? Even if I produce 40 films for Mimoh, it won’t make him a star. I can lead him to the water. But Mimoh has to drink it. I won’t do anything more than that. How do you rate his dancing? Audiences will expect Mithun’s son to be a good dancer. Mimoh dances 25 times better than me.

Wolf: Mithun in Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj By Bollywood Hungama News Network, February 29, 2008 - 17:34 IST One of 2008's most anticipated films is Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. The film which is a musical has added 2 more members to its already impressive star-cast. The buzz is that Mithun Chakraborty apparently has been signed on to play a special appearance in the film. When Bollywood Hungama spoke to Mr. Subhash Ghai, he confirmed this, "Yes Mithun is doing a special appearance in Yuvraaj. However it is a very important role in the context of the film. We have shot with him already for around 5 - 6 days." Besides this Aushima Sawhney who was last seen opposite Kunal Khemu in Superstar has also been signed. Ghai adds, "Aushima is playing one of the female leads in Yuvraaj" With some people referring to the film as Main Yuvraaj while others calling it Yuvraaj we decided to get the facts straight from the man himself. "I keep telling everyone it is Yuvraaj. The title is positively Yuvraaj and not Main Yuvraaj" Lastly we can't wait to check out this star-studded extravaganza and hence ask the showman, how much of the shooting is actually left? "50 % of the shooting is left, and we are releasing the film on October 24, 2008, the same day when Mukta Arts celebrates it 30th anniversary," signs off Ghai. In the meanwhile, all you Ghai fans can surely check out his next release Black and White starring Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, and debutant Anurag Sinha that opens across cinemas next week (March 7).

Wolf: Mithun in Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraaj 29 Feb, 2008 03:29 am ISTlGaurav Malani/INDIATIMES MOVIES The cast of Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraaj seems to be expanding by the day. The film was announced as Subhash Ghai’s mega-project with Salman Khan. Soon the mega project had a multi star cast with Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan as the male leads. Katrina Kaif came in as the female lead and Ghai rubbished the rumours that Salman wanted her in the film. Just last week we informed you that Aushima Sawhney who made her debut with Pooja Bhatt’s Dhokha and was recently seen in Super Star was being considered for the second female lead. While she has been confirmed for the role, we even hear that Aushima has been signed by Subhash Ghai for a 3-film deal. Perhaps the good-looking actress has impressed the showman quite a lot. And now there’s another addition to the cast of Yuvraaj in the form of Mithun Chakravarthy. From what we hear, Mithun plays a significant part in the film. When we checked with Subhash Ghai on the same, he confirmed the news.” Mithun has a special appearance in my film Yuvraaj . But he is playing a very important role in the film.” Yuvraaj is a musical by Subhash Ghai where Anil, Salman and Zayed play musician brothers from a royal family. Seems like Mithun is consciously making efforts to do small but significant roles in films like Guru and now Yuvraaj that are helping him get away from the B-grade tag that he had acquired with the chunk of meaningless masala films he had done down south. But what will be interesting, is to see Mithun with another actor of his generation (Anil Kapoor) if they share any scenes in the film. While the former has graduated to character roles, Anil Kapoor still rules as the male lead in his films with the personality that he has maintained.

Xenia: Wolf : with another actor of his generation

Wolf: Mithun Chakraborty did not wash his hair for ten days for the sake of continuity Kunal M Shah Mithun Chakraborthy did not wash his hair for ten days while shooting for Ashu Trikha's Zindagi Tere Naam. Mithun, who plays a 65-year-old musician, had applied hair whitener. However, since he was shooting one of the most crucial scenes for the film in Dalhousie; he did not wash the hair so that he could maintain the continuity in the film. Mithun said that if he applied whitener again after washing his hair, the audience will make out that the grey patches in his hair are different every time. Ashu Trikha says, "We had to use hair whitener for Mithunda as he does not have grey hair. However, as we were shooting close-ups he said that he couldn't wash his hair or else the film's continuity would suffer. When he got to know that we will take eight days to shoot the entire sequence, he told me that he wouldn't wash his hair so that the grey areas in his hair look exactly the same in every shot." That's perfection, Mithunda! No wonder you have survived in the industry for more than 30 years.

Wolf : We had to use hair whitener for Mithunda as he does not have grey hair

olga: ‘Om Shanti Om’ sweeps Central European Bollywood Awards New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) Farah Khan’s second directorial venture “Om Shanti Om” has swept the fifth Annual Central European Bollywood Awards (ACEB). Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor who paired up in “Jab We Met” were declared the Best Couple. Vikram Chatwal was conferred the award for breakthrough role (male) for “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.”. In the most disappointing film category director “Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag” left all other nominees behind.

olga: Интервью Просенджита It’s my life Prosenjit on working double shifts, saluting Mithun and preparing for life behind the camera... Prosenjit has broken his promise. Instead of a few hand-picked films, his kitty is full with about 16 movies, both off-beat and commercial. Tollywood’s hero no. 1 tells t2 why he is back to being the busiest star around and why Mithun’s popularity doesn’t really bother him... What films are you working on now? I’m shooting for Swapan Saha’s untitled film opposite Rachana (Banerjee) and Subhas Sen’s Aparadhi opposite Priyanka Trivedi. I will start Anup Sengupta’s next film this month and then there’s Swapan Ghosal’s Mahakal. There are four more films with Swapan Saha. I’m also doing a film each with Sandip Ray, Sujit Guha, Raj Mukherjee and Anindo Banerjee. Plus, Rituda’s (Rituparno Ghosh) Saheb Bibi Golam with Vidya Balan. Then there are a couple of films with Shree Venkatesh and one with Haranath Chakraborty. But I must mention that in every film I have a different role. None of my characters is even remotely close to the other. I am working double shifts again, like I used to early in my career. Any releases in the pipeline? Yes, definitely. Shree Venkatesh has bought the rights of Rituda’s Khela, which is slated for a Poila Baisakh release. Then there’s Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Swapner Din and Ami Yaseen Aar Amar Madhubala. Golmaal and Rituda’s Shob Charitra Kalponik will also release this year. But you had decided to cut down on the workload... To be honest, I want to work more than ever before. There’s not much time left. This is my last phase as an actor. I will continue for maybe four years more. So I want to do all kinds of films as much as I can. And directors are still keen to work with me. I am still at the peak of my career 25 years on. So why not? Will you retire after the present lot of films? No, I will continue acting, but I will be very choosy. I will do one or two films a year. My focus will be on direction. I will definitely direct a film next year. Purushottam and Ami Shei Meye were the last films I had directed. I want to do the kind of cinema Mani Ratnam does, which appeals to the classes and filters down to the masses as well. Are you doing any homework to be a director? I am reading scripts whenever I have time. But I will direct a film only when I’m in love with the script. I’m also concerned about the budget. I had made Purushottam for Rs 94 lakh, which was huge. I had got technicians from Mumbai; Chinni Prakash was the choreographer. I don’t want to compromise on the technical aspect. I may go overboard with the budget this time. But now you have that liberty after tying up with Reliance Big Movies... Yes, my production company Ideas has tied up with Reliance Big Movies and Shob Charitra Kalponik is our first venture. We want to produce a lot of films, both off-beat and commercial. In the pipeline are a film with Babuda (Sandip Ray), Rituda’s Saheb Bibi Golam and one by Buddhadeb Dasgupta starring Mithun. ) We plan to take our films outside Bengal. There is a potential market in Orissa. We are also eyeing the international market. Is there too much pressure on you to deliver? Prosenjit cannot deliver hits individually. If eight of my films release a year, I know only two of them will be superhits, four will be good and two will flop. But all the films will recover their cost. Do you feel threatened by Mithun’s popularity? Mithunda is not my competitor. ) He’s like an elder brother. If Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan does a Bengali film tomorrow, they won’t become my competitors. They are stars in their own right. Mithunda doesn’t do my kind of films. He is not a romantic hero. His audience is different from mine. He is a national figure. It is his greatness that he is doing Bengali films. It wouldn’t matter to him if he didn’t do them. He has the luxury, we don’t. Finally, which was your best film in 2007? Business-wise Bondhu and performance-wise Greftar. I was very upset last year because quite a few of my good films like Khela, Swapner Din and Ami Yaseen Aar Amar Madhubala got stuck. I believe Khela will take me a step forward and I will be recognised by the international audience. But 2007 has been great in terms of foreign trips, first to Cannes for Dosar and then to Toronto for Ami Yaseen Aar Amar Madhubala. (Do you think Prosenjit will be a good director? Tell t2@abpmail.com)

alla: olga : А г...

Avantika: Amita :

Оля, Shut Up, please!

Pain makes you stronger - Mimoh Chakraborty interview The Disco Dancer as he is fondly called, Mithun Chakraborty is a proud father today, as his son Mimoh would soon make his debut on the silver screen with the film Jimmy. Here is the Star Son, Mimoh talking about the film and the terrible accident that laid him low while shooting.. What is Jimmy all about? Jimmy is a thriller film where I play a guy who works as a car engineer in the day time and works as a DJ in a club, during night. Jimmy has everything from songs, dance, romance and action. An incident in a film changes his life drastically. Basically it is a thriller and finally how this man tries to get things back to normal is the story. How much is the character close to you? It is little bit closer to my real self. I believe that everything should be balanced, like if I am earning Rs.3000, then I will save Rs.1500 and spend the rest because you are working for it and that's the kind of guy I am in real life as is Jimmy. He is not a total miser, but of course he lives his life in a happy way, he is happy the way he is working and he has no complaint about it and life. Is your look in the film the script demand, or you had it on your own? It is for the film that I have this look for which I have grown long hair as I play a DJ in it. But I am going to cut my hair for the film Loot. If it is required then definitely I will keep changing my looks according to the demand of the script and requirement in the film, if it helps my character. How was it working with your co-star Vivana? Vivana plays a rich spoilt brat. She has done a good job in this film. People will surely notice me in this film, but after looking at her, nobody will forget her. She has the ability to leave an impact in the viewers' mind. She is very hardworking, dedicated and loyal. We share a healthy and friendly relationship with each other. We have a comfort level but to a limit, we draw our lines where we need. We have heard that it was Sohail Khan who suggested Jimmy as the title for the film... Yeah, it's true. While shooting for the film we were searching for a title when Sohail Khan came up with the idea to my dad Mithun Chakraborty, while they were shooting for Lucky in Russia. He said since the name Jimmy is still very popular with the people everywhere especially in Russia, it would be an apt title for the film. ) Raj Sippy's last few films did not work and when you got to know that he is directing you in your first film, were you nervous? What did you feel at that time? When I heard that Raj Sippy is directing my film, I was satisfied as he has a very good experience in direction. I feel lucky to work with him. Technically he is superb. He has done so many good films with my dad before, so he is a good director and it does not matter if his last few films haven't worked. I feel comfortable and proud that he has directed me in my first film. Any interesting incident you remember that happened on the sets of Jimmy? There was a fight scene where I had to jump from a door. I told Mehmood sir that I will do that and in spite of my fear for height, I did that and the muscle of my right leg got pulled. All became tense as I had to be taken to the hospital. I had to go through X-ray machines and also couple of injections was given. Daddu sir(Raj Sippy) called my dad and informed him, and in reply my dad said that if his left leg is ok, then shoot with his left leg but the shoot should not get cancelled; he is so professional. I did the scenes with my scrammed leg and finished it even when it was paining a lot. Pain makes you stronger. Your expectations with Jimmy. High, I don't regret with any part of the film. Whatever was necessary, accordingly we have made the changes and as a newcomer I am happy with Jimmy. I am satisfied with all the effort that has gone into the film, because film making has always been a team work. Any other projects you are working on? I would be soon going to Thailand to shoot for Suniel Shetty's Loot.

olga: Митхун купил крикетную команду "Калькуттские Тигры" Actor Mithun Chakraborty buys ICL's Kolkata Tigers Wed, Mar 26 07:11 PM Kolkata, March 26 (IANS) Following the steps of Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan, Tollywood superstar Mithun Chakraborty has bought the Kolkata Tigers team of the Indian Cricket League (ICL). Mithun Da, as he is popularly called in West Bengal after he shifted to the Bengali film industry from Bollywood, told IANS: 'Yes, I have bought the Kolkata Tigers of the ICL. Thursday everything will be formally announced after completing some legal formalities. 'I have always been a sports lover and had organised the Raj Kapoor Trophy in Chembur, Mumbai, for several years where big stars played. But it was not just passion that made me buy the team, there is business in it also.' The king of disco dance said: 'I am an entertainer and Twenty20 is a fantastic form of entertainment. There is craze and good business in it. So I decided to try my luck.' Asked how much he spent on the team, Mithun said: 'At present I cannot reveal the figure, but it is certainly a triple digit in crores (tens of millions).' He said after completing the formalities he would go for an overhaul of the team and add to its sheen by giving it a logo along with a slogan and a theme song. On whether he wanted to rename the side Bengal Tigers, he said: 'I have strongly recommended it. Kolkata is the capital of Bengal, but my side will represent all the people of the state. I have fans in every corner of the state.' Asked what made him go for a team in ICL and not Indian Premier League (IPL), Mithun said: 'I woke up late. The realisation that I could even own a team and make it into a profitable business venture dawned late on me. 'There is no question of competing with Shah Rukh Khan. He is one of the finest gentlemen I have come across and he gives a lot of respect to his co-stars. Besides, you can't compare our popularity. He is way above me.' On whether his Bengal Tigers would imbibe his fighting spirit, the reigning hero of Tollywood said: 'Undoubtedly so. Life has never been a bed of roses for me. I have fought for everything and my team will be a fighter too.'

olga: Shah Rukh Khan has a competitor in Mithun Chakraborty 27th Mar 2008 13.00 IST By Agencies It will be Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan versus the veteran Mithun Chakraborty in cricket. A fortnight after the gala launch of King Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders team for the multimillion dollar Indian Premier League, rival Zee-promoted Indian Cricket League has roped in 'Mithun Dada' to be the franchisee owner of one of its sides 'Kolkata Tigers'. "Yes, I have said 'Yes' to ICL. I was always interested in floating a soccer or cricket side. Now I have an opportunity," said Mithun in Kolkata, who inked an agreement with ICL Tuesday night. Cricketing circles feel the rebel league bosses opted for Mithun, who rose from the ranks in Kolkata to make it big in Mumbai films and still holds a huge fan following in the West Bengal capital, to counter the massive propaganda mileage the IPL got in the city and across the country after SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment won the franchisee rights for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Mithun's presence could also help in boosting the brand image of the Craig McMillan-led team, which has attracted little attention from the media or sports aficionados ever since it came into being last year. Mithun admitted his 'gharer chele" (son of the soil)' image in the city would win him some additional votes from cricket buffs across the city and West Bengal. But beyond that, he did not wish to go into any comparison with SRK. "They (SRK and IPL) have their own way of seeing things. I have mine. So, there can be no comparison. But I can tell you one thing. I shall not flee from the ground without a fight." To encash on his popularity across the state, the seasoned tinsel town hero was in favour of changing the name of the side to 'Royal Bengal Tigers'. "People from all parts of Bengal love me, be it Malda district in North Bengal or Bolpur in South Bengal's Birbhum district. "My fans across the state stay up whole night to have a glimpse of me. Why should I confine my team only to Kolkata and deny the rest of the state?" he asked. Mithun said he would try to recruit some new players and support staff for the side. "Just wait and see," he quipped. Mithun said he would also lay stress on unearthing talents from the grassroots in Bengal.

Yes, it is final. Mimoh Chakraborty would finally be making his big screen debut and his first film would be JIMMY. Eying for a likely release on 18th April, the film's promos have started bombarding the small screen in a big way with the makers leaving no stones unturned to ensure that the film gets adequate eyeballs. First two songs from the film are already out and one factor which stands out is Mimoh's dancing skills. Matching with the best in the business, Mimoh's moves truly remind one of the kind of waves which his father Mithun Chakraborty made when he made a sensational appearance in DISCO DANCER. Arriving under the banner of High-Definition Motion Pictures, JIMMY is produced by Nawman Malik and Salman Malik and directed by Raj N Sippy who has worked with Mithun in many a flick before. Others in the film's star cast include Nilofer, Gargi Patel, Pooja Singh, Zulfi Syed, Aashish Vidyarthi, Ehsaan Khan, Rati Agnihotri, Vikas Kalantri, Rahul Dev and Shakti Kapoor.

Wolf: "Is Mimoh's other leg okay?" - Mithun IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, April 01, 2008] Work is worship! Perhaps this is the most valuable lesson Mimoh Chakraborty has imbibed from his father Mithun Chakraborty. It was proved by an incident that happened on the sets of the debutant stars upcoming film recently. Mimoh had to jump from a height for an action scene in Jimmy. Few know that the actor has a fear of heights, but being professional personified, Mimoh insisted that he'd perform the stunt scene himself. The next thing that Mimoh knows that he suffered a severe muscle pull in the right leg even as he hit the ground with a thud! As a result, Mimoh had to be rushed to the hospital. Though the x-rays revealed that the actor has not suffered torn ligaments or fractures, Mimoh was injected with anti-biotics to prevent infection. When director Raj Sippy called Mithun to inform him about the incident, the veteran actor said that if Mimoh's other leg was okay, then they should go ahead with the shooting. But the schedule should not be cancelled at any cost! Mimoh shot the scene even though he was wreathing with pain! Well, Work is worship for the Chakraborty family, didn't we just say!

Wolf: Disco Dancer Again IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 05, 2008] Its’ been long since people have seen Mithun da dancing on screen. But who can forget this Disco dancer of the past. Remember the man who made the youth dance along with him with his super hit song, ‘I am a disco dancer’ long ago. Well fans of Mithun can see him dancing again in the film ‘Chal Chalein’. An unusual subject of children committing suicide due to severe depression forms the basic theme of the film. The film will be directed by Ujjwal singh, produced by Valiant entertainment pvt ltd, written by Vijaya, and music given by the evergreen illayraja. Yesteryear’s actor Manoj Kumar also acts in the movie after 12 years. 10 child actors selected from various serials and popular ad films along with Kawaljeet,Darshan Zariwala and Rati Agnihotri forms the star cast of the movie. Welcome back to Bollywood Dancing, Mithun.

Daddys son Rajiv Vijayakar Its embarrassing to watch your parents romance says Mimoh Chakraborty whose film Jimmy will release soon. He's a chip off the old block in the real sense. Mimoh Chakraborty has all the down-to-earth, warm qualities of his father Mithun Chakraborty that made the latter endure for three decades. Cheerful, ever-smiling and not prone to the faddish macho look common to most new faces, Mimoh also lacks the snooty attitude and brashness common to most of the star-progeny even before they take off. A welcome change, and a true daddy's son, Mimoh comes across as the epitome of exemplary upbringing. Excerpts from an interview: A cliche: did you always want to be an actor, like dad? I did not! I am immensely interested in Space Science. I love planets and I wanted to be a part of NASA. In school, they would talk about my dad, and that was my first impression of how popular dad was. But our family life was completely normal, and my becoming a star was never on the agenda. For starters, I was very fat you cannot imagine how much! Around the time when I was 14 and beginning to feel physical attraction, I would have an armful of rakhis on Raksha Bandhan day from all the girls in my class! And I would actually be khush about this! (laughs) So when did the great change happen? Then much later, B Subhash, who is very close to my father from the times of Disco Dancer, called up dad and expressed a wish to work with me. I remember that even when he called I was digging into a MacDonald burger! (Laughs again) Dad asked me to consider the option if I wanted. Try a diet! 'he told me. The next 2 to 3 years went on self-discipline and diet and my motivation slowly increased as my figure started becoming normal. So I went off for a month's course to learn acting at the New York Film Academy. What was dad's advice to you when you embarked on this career? Dad told me to give 100 per cent to whatever I did. Be honest to yourself, your work and your family,he said. I adore the way he works unlike many other actors who are good at specific aspects, dad is a switch-on-switch-off actor who was a dream dancer, good at action and also terrific at acting. If you have noticed, dad's biggest asset is his range. He never prepared for any role, whether he was playing Ramakrishna Paramhans or a goonda, but he instinctively understood his character. Despite being a star-son you faced rough weather - your first film did not even take off, and Jimmy, which will be your first release, got delayed. Well, two films never took off, but Jimmy wasn't delayed. It was my first film, so I had to be satisfied with it. We added a song later and re-shot two songs. Bappa Lahiri has composed some of the music, which is quite fitting because his father Bappi Lahiri gave my father career-defining hit songs in Suraksha and Disco Dancer. We heard that you were injured too on the sets of this film. Yes, I pulled a muscle on my right leg. The rehearsals were perfect after I refused a double, but during the actual shot I overdid the part! And do you know what, when I called up and told dad about it from the sets, he said, Is your left leg alright? and when I said it was, he told me to ensure that the shooting was not interrupted. That's how professional he is! Are you planning your career moves? It's like this, someone who always plans never enjoys and vice-versa. My funda is that if I earn Rs 3000, I enjoy Rs 1500 and save the same amount. I have already signed Popcorn Entertainment's Loot, an action comedy with Suniel Shetty, Govinda and Javed Jaffrey. I am also doing Hamilton House, a period thriller, Salim (Akhtar)'s next in which I am a rock star and a film called India Rocks. What is Jimmy all about? Jimmy is an action thriller. Raj N Sippy is directing it and I am paired with a new girl, Vivana, who let me tell you is better than me! I play a car engineer who is a DJ at night. Then one incident changes his life. Was the title deliberate - since Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy is a hit song of your dad? Yes it was. Sohail Khan suggested the idea as people identify the song with dad. But by the time the film's shoot had ended, it became an emotional bond for me too. Your mom Yogeeta Bali too has been a top star. What has she to say about you? She is my frank critic. But you know what? I never watch her films I cannot watch her romancing other heroes! With Dad, it's okay, though that sounds chauvinistic! (Laughs) But dad and mom did movies together - so you can watch her in them. No way! It's embarrassing to watch your parents romance! (Guffaws). And who are the other actors you admire? I am a great fan of Sunny Deol as I am an action film buff. I love the way Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor dance. And Priyanka Chopra is my favourite actress!

Wolf: TRADE GUIDE / INDIAFM Mithun Chakraborty in and as 'Don Muthuswamy' What makes this project super-interesting is the casting of tv star Rohit Roy in the role of the gangster's conniving accountant. Rohit states: "It's a comic role. And I'm very excited about trying my hand at comedy for the first time. Also because of the banner. I freaked out on Shakti-da's Rajesh Khanna classics like Aradhana, Amar Prem and Kati Patang." In fact a lot of Khanna's mannerisms are discernible in Roy's performances. "Yes, that must be because my mother was a big Rajesh Khanna fan. She must have watched all his films repeatedly while she was carrying me. In fact, when I was shooting with Anjoo Mahendruji she'd often tell me I reminded her of Kakajee (Anjoo and Khanna were a couple for many years). So now it feels great to be working with a banner that's done so much memorable work with Rajesh Khanna." ************************************************************** BOMBAY TIMES Mithun Chakraborty is perfect actor, said by the film industry. Director of Don Muthuswami, Ashim Samanta says, “Mithun has become as good as the best in the industry. He had asked us for the entire script of the film in advance, and would daily ask us which scenes we were shooting. He would come very well prepared for every scene that was to be shot during the day and then give splendid shots in every scene. ” *************************************************************** MUMBAI MIRROR After the sterling performance as an aging but fearless Bengali newspaper editor in Mani Rathnam’s “Guru”, add another feather to Mithun Chakraborty’s cap. He’s about to play the role of the aging naïve gangster wanting to go straight. The film “Don Muthuswamy” is to be directed by the prolific veteran Shakti Samanta’s son Ashim Samanta. Hrishitha Bhatt is playing the lead actress role in the movie.

Wolf: MITHUN'S DON READY FOR RELEASE By Eye TV India Bureau In the News click for larger view Even after remaining ill for two consecutive days, Mithun Chakraborty managed to come on location on the 3rd day. This was a pleasant surprise for the whole unit as the actor not only refused to cow down to fever, he extended the shoot on the third day to finish off his schedules for day one and day two also. Those present on set say that the actor had to shoot for almost 14 hours in a day to complete the schedule. Besides, his performance was outstanding as usual. As a result, the movie was completed in record seven months, and is ready for release in the third week of May Incidentally, Don Muthuswami stands as one of Mithunda's most accomplished works for which he will be back in the limelight as the Grand Dad of Comedians. Interestingly, the movie is about a hardcore Don played by Mithun Chakraborty. On the advice of his dying father, Don decides to alter and improve his image. Now he wants to be called Sir Don. In the end, if Don Muthuswami does not kill somebody with a bullet, then he will definitely kill him with laughter, so ludicrous are his efforts at improvement. So, he is the Don with a difference. The star cast comprises Hrishita Bhatt, Rohit Roy, Mohit Raina, debutant Anusmriti and Shakti Kapoor, besides Mithunda. The film is produced by Shakti Samanta and directed by Ashim Samanta; screenplay is by Salim Agha and has music by Anu Mallik.

olga: Mimoh’s makeover Author: Subhash K Jha Date: 22 Apr 2008 Mithun’s son gets flab-free Mimoh Chakraborty may look unrecognisable but this is how Mithun Chakraborty’s son looks now. He has had a complete makeover his tresses have been snipped and the flab has been knocked off to start his innings in B-Town. The newbie has managed to knock off 15 kilos. And Mimoh can’t stop raving about Loot producer Sunil Shetty for the feat. “Sunil Sir became like a second father to me during Loot’s shoot in Bangkok. He took complete charge of me, forced me to go on a strict oil-free diet.” Sunil Sir ki jai! Operation Diet started when “Sunil Sir saw me walking towards the camera and exclaimed, “You’re looking like a 70mm frame.” I’ve very broad shoulders. I’ve inherited these big bones and the muscular look from my mother (former actress Yogeeta Bali). And I thought there wasn’t much I could do about it. But Sunil Sir helped me change my look. Now I feel so much lighter. Of course he says he’s going to cut my fees for Loot by half because of what he has done to my bulk. I don’t mind if he doesn’t pay me.” Does Mimoh feel the difference in his dancing as well? “ No, as a dancer I never felt the weight. My father has taught me to enjoy my dancing, regardless. But having lost so much of weight I feel I’m ready to rock. My first film Jimmy will have me in that over-muscular look. Now onwards, I intend to continue with the look prescribed by Sunil Sir. In fact, we’re soon shooting a music video for Loot. You’ve to see how lean Sir, Govinda and I look. Sir has lost more weight although he already had a superb physique." Lean is in Mimoh feels the new lean look is in. I don’t think the beefy muscular look suits the leading man. I feel the lean look that Sir or Akshay Kumar have, are the best. That’s how I intend to look.”

Wolf: Memories and the man The kick surely lies in a Bollywood sex bomb being tamed into a middle class Bengali housewife but Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Kaalpurush (Memories in the Mist) has more than just that. Kaalpurush, which has waited for more than a year to hit the theatres, is different from the rest of Dasgupta’s festival-touring films. Here’s a neat story around characters rooted in reality. The twist is in the non-linear storytelling, which is more interesting than a deglamorised Sameera Reddy. To cut a long story short, Sameera and her Bollywood co-star Rahul Bose are a dysfunctional couple with two adorable kids and a dog at their modest home in a Calcutta lane (made real by Samir Chanda’s flawless sets at Bharat Laxmi Studios). Rahul tries to reconnect with his long-lost father (Mithun), while Sameera dreams of breaking free of her stifling domestic life. He knows she is having an affair behind his back; she pities him for never getting a promotion at work. Rahul clings to the simple joys of life and memories of his father. The back-and-forth movement of the story and the smart arrangement of sequences make Mithun a mystery man — he could be dead, alive, or just a figment of his son’s imagination… Kaalpurush begins with Mithun tailing Rahul as he returns home from work, then goes back to his blissful world with wife Laboni until all hell breaks loose when a woman from his past (Sudipta) resurfaces to relive a passionate moment. The betrayal drives Laboni out of home, young Rahul in tow. While a devastated Mithun becomes a footloose traveller, Rahul bears the scar for the rest of his life. Back to the present, father and son come face to face to heal old wounds. The father-son relationship may be the core of Kaalpurush but it’s actually the women who form the framework. It’s a world where a man understands a man better, and the women are either insensitive or ambitious. If Laboni doesn’t give Mithun a second chance, Sameera walks out on Rahul to chase her writing career. Mithun no longer needs to make an effort to breathe life into complex roles. The faraway look in his eyes and the sadness in his smile say more than words. For Rahul, it’s how he says what he says that leaves a mark. The Bengali diction, the Calcutta accent — Rahul has got his dubbing just right. Sameera doesn’t spring a surprise — her changed attire and dubbed voice (by Bidipta Chakraborty and Soma Chakraborty) help her sail through.

Wolf: Mimoh's Dancing Gives 'jitters' To Papa Mithun Chakraborty Sunday 04th of May 2008 Although Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty dotes on his son Mimoh, he is getting apprehensive of being overshadowed by him. Mimoh's debut-making movie, 'Jimmy' is releasing two weeks after 'Don Muthuswamy', in which Mithun plays the title role, that hits the screens May 9. Mithun fears that 'Jimmy', in which Mimoh shows off his amazing dancing skills, might overshadow his own film and give him a tough time in consolidating his second innings in Bollywood. 'Mimoh is so good at dancing that even I got jitters when I saw a trial screening of 'Jimmy' recently. And, mind you, I have not been a bad dancer in my earlier innings in Hindi movies,' Mithun told IANS here. Now that his son has turned an actor, is there any chance of both working together in movies in the near future? 'No chance,' Mithun remarked promptly. 'I will not be able to keep pace with Mimoh's dancing vim and vigour. Plus, I am sure Mimoh would not like to be overshadowed by my histrionic abilities.' Does it mean that he does not rate Mimoh very high as an actor? 'It takes a performer at least 10 years to learn the ropes of acting. Mimoh has just begun his career. He has to go through the grind before he calls himself an actor in the true sense,' Mithun said matter-of-factly. Incidentally, this is the same Mithun who had created Bollywood history in 1976 by bagging the National Award for Best Actor in his debut movie 'Mrigaya', made by Mrinal Sen. In Ashim Samanta's 'Don Muthuswamy,' Mithun plays the role of a reformed don. How Muthuswamy's life goes for a toss after he relinquishes his notorious career of crime is, in essence, what the movie is about. A comedy, it is Mithun's eighth movie for Samanta's banner. Although the banner has produced over 65 movies so far, 'Don Muthuswamy' is only its second comedy in four and a half decades since it produced 'Naughty Boy' starring Kishore Kumar and Kalpana in 1962. Mithun said his role in 'Don Muthuswamy' constantly reminded him of Krishan Iyer MA, the character of a bungling don he played in Mukul Anand-directed 'Agneepath' 18 years ago. When Ashim had gone to meet Mithun in Ooty with the story idea of a reformed don, he had planned to fashion the character after a Mumbai don. Though the movie was being planned as a comedy, Mithun refused to play a Mumbai don. So, Ashim had to give the character a Tamil identity. But does Mithun enjoy playing comic characters? 'Well, I am an actor. So I should be able to play all kinds of roles. It's true that I have not worked in many comedies. But I enjoyed playing 'Don Muthuswamy'. In fact, having lived in Tamil Nadu for long, I incorporated into the character some Tamil mannerisms I observed in some Tamil employees in my hotel in Ooty,' he said. Mithun has a line-up of movies, which will keep him busy in Mumbai for at least two to three years. Some of these are 'Luck', 'Ghosla', 'Phir Kabhie', 'Zindagi Tere Naam', 'Chandni Chowk to China' and 'C-Company'. 'The characters I am playing in these movies are the kinds that I had never played earlier. I am surprised that I am being offered to play these at this stage. I want to specially mention 'Phir Kabhie', being jointly produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Pradeep Guha. I am playing a 60-year-old man opposite Dimple Kapadia in this movie,' the actor said. He said though he would give cent percent to the movies to make his second innings in Bollywood as successful and fulfilling as the previous one, he would shoot only 25 days in a month. 'The rest five days I will devote to my hotel in Ooty, which has a 450-strong staff and needs my attention and guidance,' he said. Ever since he shifted to Ooty in the mid-1990s, Mithun had refused to come down to Mumbai to shoot for his movies. The producers, who had signed him, had to plan their shooting schedules as per the actor's convenience until recently. While in 'Don Muthuswamy' Mithun plays a comic character, in his soon-to-be released Bengali movie 'Ekti Nadir Katha', directed by Bollywood art director Samir Chandra, he emotes a diametrically opposite character, proving his versatility. After almost 35 years in filmdom since he debuted in 'Mrigaya', acting has now got into his skin. He had also set a new dancing trend in his 1983 movie, 'Disco Dancer'. 'Disco Dancer', in fact, became his son Mimoh's day school for dancing when he grew up. The student is now threatening to prove one up on his teacher.

Wolf: "Just the thought of facing the camera would make me shiver" - Mimoh Chakraborty By Bollywood Hungama News Network, May 8, 2008 - 16:14 IST Mimoh, a proud son of legendary Mithun Chakraborty, is all geared up to prove his acting prowess in his forthcoming debut film, Jimmy. Not many know that his real name is Mahakshay, but Mithun being a die-hard fan of Michael Jackson and Mohammad Ali, also named his son Mimoh, which is a combination of these two names. Apart from Jimmy, Hamilton Palace and Loot are some of his films lined up for the release this year. Bollywood Hungama brings you an exclusive interview with Mimoh where he shares his experience about working in his debut venture, Jimmy, releasing this Friday (May 9). Are you nervous or excited for the release of your film? Honestly, I can't explain how I am feeling…it's beyond any expression. Well, if I have to put into one word, I am scared as to how people would react to my performance in the film. Expectations being a star's son tend to touch the sky and I hope to live up to them. Tell us what Jimmy is all about? Jimmy is a thriller, which revolves around the protagonist named Jimmy, played by me. Jimmy is a perfectionist and a workaholic who has no complaints from both his personal and professional life. I work as a driver during the day and DJ in the night. However, with the twists and turns in the story, nothing seems as it is supposed to. What happens next is what Jimmy is all about. The feeling of independence is very satisfying and to know that your hard work is paid off well gives you the kick to work more hard. Hmmm…workaholic! You seem to be the same way in real life too; two more films of yours are lined up for the release this year. What's the secret behind this energy? It's give me immense satisfaction and pleasure to be a part of the film fraternity and I love to work round the clock, I feel I have become addicted to it now. As a beginner, I would like to experiment and give my hundred percent if I have to prove myself. Acting has become a passion now and trust me, I can't think beyond that. I am not doing films out of compulsion, I love my work and enjoy every bit of it so factors like energy, stamina eventually fall in place with the regular workouts I do. Moreover, my work makes me self-sufficient…no more asking pocket money from Dad. The feeling of independence is very satisfying and to know that your hard work is paid off well gives you the kick to work harder. And all your films have been thrillers…why this inclination towards this particular genre? There is no special inclination towards any particular genre. I believe newcomers should not be choosy about their work. All my films be it Hamilton Palace, Loot or Jimmy, despite being thrillers will display me in three different characters. Call it a pure coincidence (smiles); I signed them because of their strong script, which coincidently happened to be thrillers. How has the experience of facing the camera been so far? Honestly, I have never been so scared in my life…you won't believe I was trembling on the very first day of my shoot. Just the thought of facing the camera would make me shiver…it was a dance sequence and I was completely petrified. But to my surprise, I did it in one take and was so thrilled. And things eventually fell in place thereafter. Do you a get apprehensive about the comparisons between you and your father Mithun Chakraborty, which are bound to happen? What's your take on him? I like to see the other side of the coin. Comparisons between my father and me, I believe is the USP of the film because audience will be keen to know how different Mithun Chakraborty's son is from him. However, can't neglect the one side as well (laughs) which gives me nightmares as to what would be the audience reaction to my film and my performance as well. And as far as my Dad is concerned, he is a legend himself…I normally fall short of words when I have to explain him. He has gone through a lot and still is going through. He keeps on pepping me up saying, “Son, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.” My father means everything to me and I hope I live up to his expectations. I have learnt a lot from him…I think he is one of the very few actors who climbed the ladders of success with the originality factor and I try my level best to follow his steps. And today, my father as an actor has reached new heights and I feel proud to say that he has surpassed himself and this is biggest compliment I have ever given him. Just the thought of facing the camera would make me shiver… How was the experience working with veteran actor Shakti Kapoor? To tell you the truth; Shaktiji was more than nice to me. He was so encouraging on the sets. I am an introvert person and don't jell with people easily. Apart from the fear of my performance, the thought of mixing up with my co-stars was something, which was giving me nightmares. However, I was more than happy to have people like Shakti Kapoor in Jimmy and Sunil Shetty in Loot because they treated me not only like co-star but also went out of their way to take care of me and make sure that I am comfortable. Sunil is a gem of a person. Not just on the sets but he would give me fitness tips in the gym. Apart from the fear of my performance, the thought of mixing up with my co-stars was something, which was giving me nightmares. How is the music of the film? Which is your favourite track? Jimmy has a very situational music something, which is not put forcefully to add the style and melody elements to the film. At the same time, I feel it's really good. 'Marhabba' is my favourite track in the film, which took 40 days to be completed and took about 6 hours daily. What is the USP of the film? Are you satisfied with the way the film has shaped up? USP is, as I told you earlier the audiences' curiosity to know what Mithun Chakraborty's son can do and how good or bad he is. Secondly, the story, which is the soul of the film. And, I am more than satisfied with Jimmy and hope it works well at the box-office. Share some memorable moments with us during the shoot of the film? I can't pin point any one…the entire shoot was a memorable experience. I remember I had hurt myself during the shoot of the film while doing one stunt…and everyone was so supportive that despite all the pain I managed to give my best. However, the most memorable was the day when I received my first paycheck and I bought things for my family members. That was most touching moment of my life.

Wolf: Finally, Mimoh's day of reckoning cometh 08th May 2008 15.20 IST By ApunKaChoice At long last, the first movie of Mimoh , son of Mithun Chakraborty , is ready to hit the theatres. For more than a year, Mimoh has been in news for his foray into Bollywood but his first film has taken longer than expected to make it to the marquee. Now, the wait is over for the young star-son. He makes his debut in Friday’s release Jimmy in which he plays a dancer. Well, like father like son. Addressing the mediapersons in Mumbai, Mimoh said he would obviously be compared with his father. “Whereas acting is concerned, I have a long way to go. I am aware that comparisons will be inevitable,” Mimoh said. ‘Jimmy’ has Mimoh playing a mechanical engineer who is so passionate about dancing that he takes up a job of a DJ in a club. But things go awry after he gets involved in a murder case and has to prove his innocence. “It is a suspense thriller and I have got enough opportunity to show my dancing skills. I am very confident that the film would do well,” Mimoh. Mimoh said his character in the film is close to his real self, someone who loves dancing. And dad Mithun was always there to guide the sonny in dancing during the shoots. “My father was present on the sets when dance sequences were being shot. He wanted to ensure that everything was perfect,” Mimoh said. Even though Jimmy is presented by Mithun, the senior actor chose not to make an appearance in the film. The movie is directed by Raj Sippy.

Wolf: Mithun snubs Bachchans Author: Upala KBR Date: 09 May 2008 Mithun invited everyone in B-Town for the premiere of his son’s film except the Bachchans Yeh mera khoon hai! Mimoh and Mithun. Pic/ Rakesh Dave Last night, at the premiere of Mithun Chakroborty’s son Mimoh’s debut film Jimmy, at Cinemax in Andheri, the who’s who of B-town was present. Barring the Bachchans. Mithun personally called up everyone to come and bless beta Mimoh on his big day. So why was the Bachchan parivaar not invited? Because the Chakrbortys were not invited to the AbhiAsh wedding? Says a source, “Amitabh and Mithun have worked together in Agneepath and Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, so they are no strangers. Mithun wasn’t happy with the way his role had shaped out in Agneepath and Amitabh went on to get the National Award for the film. And things between them soured forever.” But it goes way beyond just professional rivalry. When Mani Ratnam’s Guru released, Mithun felt his role would suffer, but nothing of the sort happened. Mithun would never speak out openly against Amitabh and fear incurring his wrath especially now that he has started blogging. Mithun feels it better to avoid Amitabh. When asked if he had invited Bachchan to Jimmy’s premiere, Mithun says abruptly, “No.” When asked why, he shrugs, “Because I don’t know the Bachchans that well and we can’t invite everyone. There will be too many people then.” Argue that they have been colleagues and contemporaries and the actor snaps, “Please don’t ask me anything. I don’t wish to discuss the subject. It’s best left alone.” Starry night Mithun invited many stars and his old producer and director friends for the premiere, Mithun admits, “Yes I had invited Shah Rukh, Govinda, Salman, Sunil (Shetty), Sanjay (Dutt). Shah Rukh came and met me and said, ‘Dada, I would have come but the Kolkata Knight Riders match is on the same day and I have to be there.” Salman’s shooting in Australia but Sanju, Govinda and Sunil Shetty promised to come.” Special people A special invite for the premiere has gone to Salim Khan (Salman’s father) and his family. Mithun says, “Yes I am like Salman’s elder brother. Salimbhai has done so much for me when I was struggling actor. He has been a tremendous source of encouragement and support to me. Salimbhai had first met me in a tailoring shop when I was just a graduate from the Pune Film Institute and asked me to join films. Since that day, he had recommended me everywhere to all his colleagues. Salman, Sohail, Arbaaz and Alvira have grown up in front of me. The Khans are like family.” He’s on his own Amitabh has always promoted Abhishek whenever possible (especially with reference to Guru) as a proud father. Will Mithun do the same with Mimoh? “Let Amitabh do that if he wants. If Mimoh is really good, he will succeed on his own. If he’s bad he has to learn and correct it. I feel Mimoh is 25 times a better dancer than I am. Mimoh has acted well and got distinction in dancing, fighting and action. He’s star material but he has to improve his acting. I don’t want to praise him too much or he’ll get a swollen head. I’ve told Mimoh that he has to fight his own battles and be ready for anything because this is how life is. I was never present on the sets. The only time I came was during the song Marhaba which Nadeem, the choreographer and I helped Mimoh with the steps.” http://www.mid-day.com/web/guest/entertain...XT_5_groupId=14

Wolf: Mimoh 25 times better than me: Mithun Suruchi Mazumdar Posted online: Friday , May 09, 2008 at 0930 hrs the early ’80s, he introduced the term ‘disco’ to Bollywood. But then he went on to dabble with action films, and was at one point even considered as Amitabh Bachchan’s strongest rival. As luck would have it, after a series of duds in the ’90s, Mithun Chakraborty disappeared from the world of superstardom, while Bachchan rose to a level sans compare. But some stars make their way out only to stage a surprise comeback. That’s what Chakraborty did, when he recreated his magic in Guru last year with a powerful performance as an uncompromising newspaper editor. Now he promises his fans a lot more. “I have nearly 10-12 films on the floors,” says Chakraborty, naming Don Muthu Swami (that releases in June), Chandni Chowk To China, Luck with Sanjay Dutt, C Company, Phir Kabhi (opposite Dimple Kapadia) and Zindagi Tere Naam (opposite his former co-star Ranjeeta). His second innings is not going to be just offbeat roles, like the one in Guru, for the actor. “I have not become selective about banners but about my roles. I’m playing characters that excite me even if they are hardcore masala movies,” says Chakraborty, who has shaken a leg for a promotional video of Don. In Chandni, he will be seen doing daredevil stunts with Akshay Kumar. “It isn’t that I danced or did an action sequence after a long time. I’m in regular touch with them through Bengali films,” he says. Chakraborty’s honeymoon with the Hindi box office ended with super-hit movies like Agneepath (where he played the lead along with Bachchan) in early ‘90s, after which he ended up as the badshah of B-grade films. However, the actor who gave hits like Suraksha, Disco Dancer, Dance Dance and Pyaar Ka Mandir, continues to be a phenomenon in Bengali commercial films—he is the industry’s top-grosser. “It’s all about luck. That’s all what matters in the film industry,” says Chakraborty. However, Chakraborty’s journey to stardom is a story of sheer determination and struggle—hailing from a lower middleclass family in Kolkata, he made it big in Hindi movies out of nowhere. “Films are not everything in my life. For a brief period, I got bored and stopped acting,” he says. During this time, he ventured into hotels and resorts in Ooty, and made odd appearances in offbeat movies by Goutam Ghosh and Rituparno Ghosh. “I had to look after my children,” says Chakraborty, married to actor Yogita Bali. Things are also looking up on the personal front, as son Mimoh makes his debut in Jimmy this week. “Mimoh is 25 times better than me,” says the proud father. “But he has to fight his own battle.”

The quality and outcome of Mimoh's purported dream launch, Jimmy, has sent shock waves across the industry. While the pre-release vibes from the film were indicative of a hard time ahead not even the shrewdest trade pundit could have predicted such a harsh and relentless attack on a film that clearly and tragically doesn't deliver the goods. While the shell-shocked star-parent Mithun Chakraborty has gone into a shell, sources close to the family say Mithun wasn't quite unprepared for the severe backlash. "Mithunda kind of knew what was coming. When he had seen the rushes he was shocked by the tackiness of the product. Jimmy was certainly not the launch that the doting father had dreamt for his son. Given a choice Mithun-da would've liked to shelve the film. And if it was his own home production he'd have done exactly that regardless of financial losses. But this was someone else's money and simply refunding Rs 5 crores was not the solution." It was late last year after seeing the rushes that the appalled and panicky Papa stepped in to perform Operation Rescue. "Mithun da saw how poorly the film had been put together. The production values were much below par. The producers had promised to shoot in foreign locations, especially Dubai. All Mithun-da saw were indoor shots done shabbily. He decided to take matters into hands. Two extra songs were shot. No expenses were spared to make them look lavish. But it was too late," the source ends regretfully. A lot of Chakraborty's friends also feel that the choice of director was wrong. Continues the source, "Raj N Sippy had made a series of successful films in the 1970s. But he has been pretty much out of the loop in recent times. Mithunda's friends advised him against handing over the responsibility of launching Mimoh to a director whose best years came 25 years ago. But Mithunda was adamant. He argued that Raj Sippy had worked with the best of superstars in the past from Amitabh Bachchan to Dharmendra to Mithun. In fact, Raj had directed Mithun in Boxer which was a flop but which remains one of Mithuda's favourite films. Raj Sippy had also directed Akshay Kumar in his first film (Sugandh). So Raj was the chosen once…Once things started going wrong there was little Mithunda could do." Post-release the velocity of the criticism against Jimmy has hit the emotional actor hard. Mithunda refuses to say anything about Mimoh's failed debut, beyond…. "I always maintained my son is a better dancer than me. Everyone agrees. I'm happy with that. Beyond that, Mimoh has his own destiny. He's named after Michael Jackson and Mohammad Ali. Like the two, he'll have to fight his way through life. I can only be there to support him. He'll have to fight the battle on his own."
