After getting noticed in Gangster, he is once again in news for Mohit Suri’s Woh Lamhe, where his character is based on Mahesh Bhatt. Apparently Shiny has never been the first choice of his directors but became hot favorite subsequently. In the case of Woh Lamhe, Mohit Suri had approached his cousin brother Emraan Hashmi to play Mahesh Bhatt. But when Emraan refused, Shiny came into picture. Nevertheless it doesn’t matter to Shiny as far as his role is good. “I have never been the first choice of any of my films, not even for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Gangster. Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar was considered for my role in Gangster. And I was frequently asked whether he could have acted better than me? I feel if he can act better than me, I can bowl faster than him.” I feel, if Shoaib Akhtar can act better than me, I can bowl faster than him. There is no doubt that Shiny has managed to amaze his directors by his outstanding performance in each movie. He says, “I was always a second choice of my directors, but then they used to tell me that I was the best choice and they would cast me again in their next film.” So while his mentor Sudhir Mishra has signed him for his forthcoming film Bahut Nikle Mere Armaa; after Gangster Anurag Basu is directing him in his forthcoming film Metro. Vishesh Films have also repeated him in Woh Lamhe. “When you've worked with someone, automatically there is a comfort level. If I do a film with another filmmaker I will be slotted there.” says Shiny, who is currently working with filmmaker Priyadrashan on Chandramukhi where he plays an NRI doctor. Shiny was appreciated for his intense roles in HKA and Gangster. Does it mean that he enjoys playing such characters? “These characters were hard hitting and I enjoyed playing them. It was obviously not an easy task and it was like a challenge for me. I feel intensity is a strong conviction towards the emotions, the characters are feeling that time.” Coming back to Woh Lamhe he says, “I play a young director, who is selfish and ruthless and his only aim is to reach on top. This is about how he manipulates the success of the actress Sana Azmi and finally falls in love with her. As its title suggests, it is about those moments of their life.” I feel if the audience can understand what Mr Bhatt went through during that phase of his life, my job is done. Since he plays Mahesh Bhatt in this movie, wasn’t it tough for him to play the real life character, moreover who is associated with the project and even supervising it? “Yes it was. It’s a great responsibility to play a real life character in a film, esp. when he is the creative head of the company. And I did not want this character to look like a caricature. So I avoided the physicality of his character; rather I played this character with heart. I feel if the audience can understand what Mr Bhatt went through during that phase of his life, my job is done.” he adds.

And the rumor doing the rounds of the industry is that Shiney is charging an exorbitant fee [Rs. 1 crore] per film. “Is that what people are saying?” Shiney asks, when I confront him with the rumor, “I really don’t want to discuss my remuneration in public, but if I am being offered an ‘x’ amount by producers, who am I to complain?” Please elaborate. “Post-GANGSTER, offers have been pouring in every day. Obviously, you can’t do all the films offered to you. Sometimes, you refuse a film by quoting a ridiculous price, but if the producer is ready to pay that amount, is it right to blame the actor for it? And why should I refuse money? Won’t it be foolish on my part if I did so?” Shiney states. Shiney recounts the days when he had no work on hand. “It was tough. Extremely frustrating. But things changed after GANGSTER. Believe me, I haven’t hiked my price at all. I am quoting what I deserve. And if the producers are cool with it, why this hullabaloo? 'The film is about spirited, bohemian people who put their personal wealth and studios at stake to make films. The characters of my film are not based on specific actors. I have drawn references from the lives of directors and actors in that period who were emotionally attached to films. My film is a homage to them,' Mishra was quoted as saying earlier. Shiney's character is called Zafar, the writer-director and Soha is Nikhat, the dancer-actor. Incidentally Shiney's debut film HAZAARON KHWAISHEIN AISI was also directed by his mentor Sudhir Mishra. И ролей второго плана ему уже не предлагают - практически не начав сниматься в таких ролях, он сразу это дело прекратил. А ищщо позволь спросить - а что, кроме Карама, с ним видели? (просто интересно....) Насчет публики - смотря какой публики... индийской - точно вряд ли (хотя кто его знает). А вот критиков - адназначна будет (тьфу-тьфу). Ну и мою вечную любовь за игру в Хазарон он уже заслужил (я ему канечн изменяю... но все равно возвращаюсь :-) )

The actor shot for his first brand endorsement in Dubai for four days last week. Bagging the ad Shiney recounts his meeting with Diageo’s brand manager. “He was outside my room at Taj Land’s End during the music launch of Zindaggi Rocks. My manager said that someone had come to see me from Diageo and was waiting outside. I asked him why he had called him to the music launch. My manager said that the person who was waiting was Diageo’s brand manager. I told him, ‘Are you mad?! Call him straight in’!” “That gentleman had done his homework before he came to meet me. He had seen my films and knew almost everything about my work. He said I was a shark, and hence, the right choice for the brand. He convinced me within five minutes,” he adds. Shiney says he has no problem endorsing a liquor brand. “If I were a teetotaller, I might have thought for a while. But I do enjoy the occasional drink,” he says. The actor even claims to have tasted the liquor he will be promoting. “I have tasted it and it has the bite,” he says with a mischievous smile. Shiney adds that the brand is very much like him. “It signifies independence, free will and goes straight for the kill without paying heed to norms — exactly what I did in Bollywood — breaking all the rules.” Treading carefully On the film front, Shiney has been riding high after Woh Lamhe. Says the actor, “From here on, I’m going to be extremely careful about the selection of my roles.” Ahuja has just signed the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Chandramukhi, co-starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. "I heard I was throwing my weight around, making constant demands on the sets, asking for juice constantly as though I am some kind of a juice monster. I do have juice on sets, but what's so starry about that?" asks Shiney, whose debut film "Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi" fetched him critical acclaim. "As for my staff, please ask them if I ever throw my weight around. I even heard that (director) Sudhir Mishra is fed up of my behaviour on the sets of my new film when, in fact, he has been and continues to be my biggest supporter," Shiney told IANS. About alleged differences with "Woh Lamhe" co-star Kangana Ranaut, he says: "I've no problems with Kangana at all. You'll have to ask her if she has a problem with me. In fact, life couldn't get any better for me. So many things have come up simultaneously. I'm shooting non-stop till April-end. "There's no friction from my end. Kangana is my co-star in two films. I feel we get along quite well. But she said something in an article that really surprised me. Whenever we're together, we're very comfortable with each other. But the story of Shiney's extra-marital affair broke out on the day of his marriage anniversary. "What a day to choose for such a link-up. My wife Anu who's in New York, was naturally shocked when I spoke to her about it. It was very embarrassing … and painful. More so since I was being linked with a woman who's senior to me and someone I respect for her professionalism," says Shiney who's currently shooting with Soha Ali Khan in Goa for Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand. Shiney takes a deep breath. "I feel very bad for my publicist Tanuja with whom I'm linked. Mujhe to aadat pad gayi hai. I'm used to link-ups. I can handle it. She was almost in tears." He brightens up. "Now we're here in Goa for twenty days. Soha is fun to have on the sets, and very intelligent. I guess it's her inheritance. I've inherited the capacity to love from my parents. And I've passed it all to my wife. She's the only woman in my life. Talk about link-ups has no effect on my marriage. Anu is a marketing head of a huge corporation. She understands how these things work." Shiney admits long-distance marriages such as his are more prone to speculations. "Absolutely! If she was here with me, my fidelity would never be questioned. I'm not that kind of a guy. I don't socialize. I hardly talk to people beyond my work. I'm the last person to have affairs. A producer of mine has a believable theory on these rumours. He says, people dig up dirt because I am here and my wife is there. That space is filled up with imaginary romance." Shiney's wife is likely to find more time for him. "Anu has now quit her job and started her own business there in New York. Which means she'll be able to spend more time here with me. I also visit her as often as possible. In fact I was with her in New York last month. We went on a cruise together." Shiney's has been given an ultimatum by his wife. "I've to get our house renovation done before she comes the next time. I had given up the task because I couldn't take all the dirt and dust in the house. But now I've no choice but to wade through the difficult process."

However, according to sources, the real reason for Shiney’s refusal was the fear that he might be overshadowed in the film. Shiney learnt that Abhishek and Goldie were friends and therefore there are chances of Abhishek stealing all the focus and Shiney ending up as his sidekick. Shiney however, laughs it off and says that he had refused soon enough so that a new actor could be roped in. Drona will be Goldie Behl’s second directorial venture. His first film Bas Itna Sa Khwaab also starred Abhishek Bachchan but bombed badly at the Box Office. wichy: Сижу смотрю Zindaggi Rocks. Хорош зараза... глаз не могу отвести. Не тока с морды лица хорош - но как играет, падлюка - обожаю, как он показывает мелкой мимикой чувства, которые в кино болливудском редко подмечают даже - а у него это так естественно получается. Обожаю, когда он так сдержанно-стеснительно улыбается - знаете, когда улыбка непроизвольно вылазит, как ее не сдерживай, она от счастья все равно на губах проявляется и в глазах видна... И вообще, мимика очень деликатная, но выразительная... пэстня. любо-дорого посмотреть, что кто-то так играть умеет. Кароч, люблюнимагу.

Культовый фильм для моей любви к Грузину. Он там не просто хорош - а хорош божественно, играет - непередаваемо... Мой отзыв - в каталоге можно найти... Я помнится там развернулась... Помнится, спорили о росте Шайни. Я тут углядела - он выше Сушки сантиметров на 5 наверно - а в Сушке где-то 180... Всем парень удался.... Но вообще, в жизни мне кажется он тот еще засранец... Его улыбка его натуру выдает.

They had said he always gives the costume department a hard time; that he is very moody... So, I wasn't really looking forward to a freewheeling chat. But I was in for a surprise. "Some tags just stay," said Shiney, who, I must say, was not at all like what I had been warned about. "To convenience themselves people slot you in a particular type and then everything you do is turned around to fit the image they have created. I frankly don't care what people say. I am doing my work with the passion and dedication needed and will continue to do so." Laughing away the controversy of being thrown out of producer Samir Sheth's Fame, he said, "I never signed Fame. I did not like the script, so I declined to act in it. About Drona, I did not know Abhishek Bachchan was acting in it. All I knew was a that they were offering me a negative role which I did not want to do." For a guy who came to Mumbai with Rs 16,000, two t-shirts and jeans, worked in umpteen ad films and waited for three years for his first feature film to release, Shiney seems to be doing well now. He owns an apartment in a western suburb of Mumbai. He has not yet made it to the Bollywood A-list, but is climbing his way from the festival poster boy image to a saleable actor with successes like Woh Lamhe and Gangster under his belt. His upcoming films Khoya Khoya Chand -- with director Sudhir Mishra, who gave him his first break with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi -- and Anurag Basu's Metro also look promising. In a candid conversation, the green-eyed Shiney talks about his career so far. I find it strange that you did nothing but wait even while Hazaaron took three years to release. I shouldn't have [waited]? What would you have done? For three years every month they would say it's going to release next month. I was very confident of the film, so I waited. The moment I would think of doing something else they said next month we are starting the publicity. They released the song Bawra Man on television and the promos of the film started twice. They were trying to send it to the festivals first and were themselves trying to make up their mind on how they wanted to release the film. I am very impatient but I wanted Hazaaron to be my first film. I think I did the right thing by waiting. But was not Sins (top) your first movie to release? Yes it was. Two-and-a-half years after shooting Hazaaron the script of Sins came along. It was based on a true story -- an excellent character to play but not executed correctly. That's not in my control. The only thing I can read is the script. I still say the script was great. It did not turn out the way it was expected. But thankfully within in a month after that Hazaaron released. While waiting for the film to release did you not feel disillusioned with the industry? Did you feel like giving up? I was just hoping that the film releases fast. There is an element of frustration that comes in while you are waiting -- sitting at home and just waiting for your film to release. I went through that but then I am generally a positive person by nature and that kept me going. I felt whenever the time is right the film will release. I don't belong to the film industry and I knew I am not going to get some 20 opportunities to prove myself to be an actor or a star. I was quite realistic about Hazaaron not getting me any commercial success. I knew critical acclaim is possible. All I wanted from Hazaaron was a commercial film that I got eventually. All the directors I have worked with want to repeat me. It's me who decides whether I want to work with them or not. Some directors -- who I know I won't work with them -- say in their interviews, 'I don't want to cast Shiney.' But have you asked Shiney if he wants to work with you? It's like me saying I will never work with Steven Spielberg. Is the negativity around you the reason you get irritated and shut yourself? Yes it is one of the reasons I shut myself. It's hard to concentrate on your work otherwise and that's pretty much the intention of people who do this. I am not willing to give this up for anything. There is nothing that comes between my work and me. Nothing. Everybody around me knows that. That's common between my director Sudhir Mishra and me. I don't come between him and his shot. And there is nothing that can come between my performance and me. People say you throw tantrums on sets. There was a report about me drinking only juice on the sets. I was recovering from typhoid and my doctor told me to drink juice. How can this be termed a tantrum? My staff loves me like anything. They will do anything for me. What I have realised is irrespective of all the negative stories that are coming up, the film offers are only getting better. How do I equate that? When I meet people and they say they are taken by my work. It's amazing to know how well people connect with my character emotionally on screen. Whoever has known or interacted with me talk to that person. If I refuse a film the person is only going to say bad things about me. I can only do four-five films a year at this point of time. Eventually I am not going to do that many also. I am accepting four or five from 20 offers. When I say no, people build stories. But you are in the news for all the wrong reasons all the time. Sometimes people just like to write things about certain people. Because I am such a private person and I don't divulge too much information they still want to write things. That's one way of provoking you to say something. Keep writing bad things about you till you react. I choose to ignore it. I talk to journalists who don't believe in selling their paper through gossip or are not a part of this kind of media. While I am shooting if I have to keep thinking about these kind of things it really irritates you. It's like someone is constantly trying to pull you down. I don't have any enemies. When you are on your way to a certain goal there are hindrances that come your way and not everyone is happy with your success. People used to tell me you might have to face this but now that I have to face things I believe it. I used to wonder why would anyone waste his or her time in trying to put me down? There is no clarity about the status of your marriage. I have spoken about it so many times but the same question keeps coming up. There is crystal clear clarity. Someone creates a controversy about you. By giving explanations you keep feeding to it. I refuse to comment on it any more. How comfortable are you doing lovemaking scenes on screen (a scene with him and Soha Ali Khan was being shot before the interview)? It's a part of my job and it's good to work with an actress who also considers it the same way. We think about the role, the shot, how we can make it better -- just like any other shot. There is nothing I feel at any point of time while doing such scenes because you have to concentrate on what you are doing.

Все режиссеры, с которыми я работал, хотят работать со мною вновь. Сейчас я решаю, буду я работать с ними или нет. Некоторые режиссеры, которые знают, что я работать с ними не буду, говорят в интервью - "Я больше не хочу работать с Шайни". Но спрашивали ли вы Шайни, хочет ли он работаь с вами. Да, это одна из причин. Трудно сосредосточиться на работе в таких условиях. Ничто не должно стоять между моей работой и мной. Ничто. Окружающие меня знают это. Это в порядке вещей между мной и Судхиром Мишрой. Я не встреваю между ним и его съемками. И ничто не должно стоять между мной и моей игрой. Говорят, вы очень раздражительны на съемках. Говорят, что я на съемках пью только сок. Я поправлялся от тифа и мой доктор сказал мне пить сок. Это считается тиранством? Мои помощники отлично ко мне относятся и сделают для меня все, что угодно. После каждого нового релиза несмотря на все эти негативные рассказы, предложения новых проектов становятся только лучше. Я встречаюсь с людьми, они мне говорят, что тронуты моей работой. Это отлично - знать, что люди понимают эмоции моего персонажа на экране. Как только я отказываюс от проекта - обо мне начинают говорить гадости. Я могу делать не более 4-5 фильмов в год. На самом деле я не думаю делать даже столько. Я принимаю 4-5 предложений из 20. Когда я отказываюсь, начинают сочинять истории. . Но ты все время в новостях по отрицательным поводам. Я замкнутый человек и обо мне не много информации, а о чем то нужно писать. Это один из способов спровоцировать тебя что-то рассказать о себе. Я решил игнорировать это. У меня нет врагоу. Когда ты на пути к конкретной цели - помехи неизбежны, и не каждый рад твоему успеху. Люди говорили мне, что со мной тоже такое будет. Но я не верил - зачем кому-то тратить время, чтобы нагадить мне? Так и нет ясности о твоем семейном положении. Я говорил об этом много раз, но по прежнему спрашивают. Все кристально ясно. Кто-то распускает обо мне слухи. Давая объяснения, ты их только подпитываешь. Я больше не буду это комментировать. Насколько удобно ты себя чувствуешь в постельных сценах на экране (как раз перед интервью снималась такая сцена с Сохой Али Кхан)? Это часть моей работы. И приятно работать с актрисой, которая относится к этому так же. Мы думаем о роли, о съемках, о том, как лучше это сделать, - так же, как о любом другом моменте съемок. И ничего другого не чувствуешь - нужно постоянно концентрироваться на том, что ты делаешь.

Просто эта картиночка в маленьком виде была, а тут в большом попалась, вот я ее и пристроила. А Соха- да, сестренка Саифки.
