Because Bobby Deol plays Bobby Deol in Samir Karnik's Nanhe Jaisalmer. "That's what the director Shudipto would like call Bipasha's character… Bipasha," informs producer Sanjay Gupta whose production house White Feather will be branching into another brand name with Pankh to produce serious offbeat films. Continues Gupta, "Shudipto's film is almost 50 percent ready. And he wants Bipasha to be called Bipasha because she plays a sensuous actress whom our hero is completely besotted by." However Bipasha isn't comfortable with the idea of her name being used in the film. Says the straight-laced actress, "I really need to have a discussion with Shudipto on this. Yes, he's very keen that I be called Bipasha in Pankh. But I'm not at all comfortable with my name being used for any character, even if I'm playing her . I'd rather stick to the character's name Nandini…Pankh is very special, and not just because it's my first so-called art film. But the minute I heard the subject I was bowled over. It deals with a very serious problem within the film industry. Let's not trivialize it by people speculating whether the character I play is based on me. wichy: Еще про No Smoking - от продюсера фильма Вишала Бхарадваджа - отсюда Vishal Bhardwaj's first attempt at production, No Smoking directed by Anurag Kashyap, is all set to be released for pre-Diwali, 26 October. "Yes, the date is decided and we're all very excited," says Vishal. He describes the film as a light-hearted attempt to explore the miseries and pitfalls of smoking. "It's not a grim film. It has very light moments….and five songs composed by me, one them is lip-sync." An item song sung by Vishal's talented wife Rekha has also been recorded, though it's not decided yet whether the zingy number filmed on Bipasha Basu will be used in the film or just for promotional purposes. Vishal dismisses all comparisons between No Smoking and Jason Reitman's Thank You For Smoking. "I haven't even seen that film. When Anurag Kashyap came to me with the script for No Smoking I just fell in love with it and immediately decided to produce it," says Vishal. A story that the trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj's No Smoking was 'sabotaged' from the theatres on Friday when it was meant to be screened nation-wide has its producer amused. "What really happened was that there were too many trailers to be screened all at once. The theatres began to pick and choose trailers at random." In fact, the No Smokingtrailer was shown at several theatres in different shows. The actor, busy shooting abroad and pursuing his international goals, says his inaccessibility to the media fans the rumours. Excerpts of an interview: You seem to have been out of circulation for so long.. That was by choice. I would rather be seen than heard. I’ve always believed in working quietly and not making tall claims. I always said roles abroad would happen when they happen. At the end of the day Bollywood is my home. I’m damn lucky to be getting all these opportunities. The film industry has been very kind to me. I love the movies! In Deepa Mehta’s Luna you’re cast in a mainstream Hollywood film as a mainstream hero. You think so? A lot of people were taken by surprise. At Cannes, UTV’s Ronnie Screwvala was next to me when the announcement was made on stage. He was as surprised as anyone else. Deepa has shown a lot of faith in me. Talks were on for Luna. But everything came together formally at Cannes. I’m very delighted my co-star is Rachel Weisz. What a performance she gave in The Constant Gardner. Mine is a beautifully etched role in Luna. I play an activist. The heartening thing is my nationality isn’t even mentioned. And my character’s name isn’t Indian. I met Julia Hill on whose life Luna will be based. She was amazing. We think of activists as mature and boring. Julia is a fun 27-year-old, funky yet passionate about her work. Julia Hill thinks you resemble Antonio Banderas. I come from a completely different cultural space. But you do feel flattered when you’re compared with a good-looking Hollywood icon like Banderas. I’m not even two percent of what he is. Goal in London was quite eventful. So I’m informed by the media. It was fun. We’ve seven-eight days of patchwork to do, and we’re complete. What about your problems with Arshad Warsi? It’s sad when incorrect things are written about me. I want people who read this interview to know I’m not a vindictive person. I’m not going to sit here and clarify my non-existent problems. Every one in the unit would vouch for that. Neither Arshad nor I have spoken against each other. I have no clue who is spreading the rumours. I’ve been out of the country and pretty much disconnected with what’s being said and spread. Do you think your general inaccessibility fuels such stories? It’s true I’m inaccessible to the media when I’m shooting abroad. So I’m sure the stories come from those who are accessible from abroad. You know what I mean? It is too premature.” Ever since Bipasha made her presence felt at the announcement ceremony of New Seven Wonders of the World event held in Lisbon, she has garnered a lot of attention. And it is after that event that she appointed Simone Sheffield as her official international manager. In fact, Sheffield has already put up Bipasha's official website on her official website www.canyonentertainment.com describing her as India's Sophia Loren. Lately, however, Mukesh Bhatt, the producer of Raaz 2, had confirmed that Bipasha was keen to work with them again as it was quite some time since they had worked together. Mukesh Bhatt had earlier said, "Yes, Bipasha is doing Raaz 2 and she has said that she would love to work with Emraan in the film. We also have a suitable role for her." The latest news, however, is that Bipasha is out of Raaz 2, which is being directed by Mohit Suri. The Bhatts will choose a new heroine in the next few days. Bhatt's blue-eyed boy Emraan remains a part of the cast. The new film will be directed by Mohit Suri instead of Vikram Bhatt, who had directed Raaz. Shagufta Rafique, the writer of Raaz 2, (who also wrote Woh Lamhe, Awarapan, Dhokha) explains that Bipasha's omission from the film is simply because it is not a sequel to Raaz. "There has been a change in plans. We felt that Raaz had no loose ends that we could tie up in the sequel. The ghost played by Malini Sharma had died and there was no way that we could continue the story. We didn't want to make a sequel just for the heck of it," she said. Mahesh Bhatt confirmed that Bipasha is not a part of Raaz 2 anymore. "Shagufta came up with a new story and Mohit and I jumped at the idea. It is a marvellous story. However, it is not a sequel to Raaz even though we shall stick to title Raaz 2. It is too early to reveal the story except that it will have the supernatural elements like Raaz did," said Mahesh Bhatt. "Within a month I'll be signing my first international film. Time? I'll make time for it if it's worth my while. English is a language I'm very comfortable with. If I were willing to play the stereotypical Indian I'd be doing Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited and so many other projects that have come my way. But I want to play mainstream normal characters in the West, not an ethnic Asian person," she said. Bipasha's beau John Abraham is playing a non-Indian in Deepa Mehta's Luna. "Yes. To have a global diction certainly helps. Any filmmaker that I've met abroad has liked my voice. The way I speak is what they liked the best about me. Everything is in-sync sound out there. So a correct voice and diction is a major battle won," the actress said. "There are so many really beautiful actresses from (South) Korea and China who have failed to make the grade abroad because of their thick accents. I don't want to unlearn my language. Whatever parts come my way from abroad don't need me to change my voice or personality in any way," she added. Says producer Kumar Mangat, “Phook de is going to be a bomb of an item number! Vishal and I decided to rope Bipasha in for the song because Beedi jalai le (Omkara) was a huge hit. Since the chemistry between John and Bipasha is smoking hot, Phook de will become an instant hit!” Vishal Bhardwaj has composed the music, while his wife Rekha has sung the song, with choreography by Ganesh Acharya. Sensual play Mangat says shooting the song (at Filmistan Studios) cost him a bomb too, at a whopping Rs 90 lakhs. “We used foreign dancers and special lighting techniques to give the song a smoky, nightclub effect. Even though Bipasha hurt her ankle while shooting, we finished it in four days. Hats off to her for being so professional,” says Mangat. Bhardwaj, for his part, says, “Phook de is a sensuous song with lyrics by Gulzar, and I wanted to give it a dark, smoky underground feel. When I met Bipasha en route to the IIFA Awards earlier this year, she said she had earned so much from Beedi so how could she repay me? I told her to do Phook de and that was it. She agreed then and there. For the song, we required a husky, sensuous voice and Rekha fit the bill perfectly.” Ganesh Acharya, who is back with the duo after Beedi, says, “The concept shows John going into a nightclub where smoking is not allowed. Yet, he continues puffing on his cigarette leading to Bipasha’s item song. If the promos are any indication, then this hot bod is playing an irreverent character spewing cigarette rings at his disgruntled wife played by Ayesha Takia. “I play a narcissist; he loves himself, a badtameez character. He smokes in the bathroom, in the office, in the lift, in car, everywhere.” What is the film all about? “I play a character who doesn’t care about anybody but himself and the whole film is about the regression of this guy who thought he was really cool by being a chain smoker and what happens to him which you’ll see in the film,” explains John. Your director Anurag Kashyap considers this to be your best performance. “I’ve never seen a film where I’m present in every frame. There’s a lot of responsibility on my shoulders and I think it’s a very honest performance because you forget who John Abraham is in the first five seconds of the film. Then it’s the character that remains in your mind.” You’ve never looked so good since Dhoom. “I had neglected myself for a very long time, the way I look and my body. I’ve taken time out for myself and it is showing. I’m looking fitter, much much fresher. I’ve also started doing roles that I’m more interested in doing.” ‘Phoonk De’ ne to lagta hai jaan hi daal di hai….wouldn’t you agree? “That’s Bipasha’s song. I haven’t done an item number as yet. I don’t even consider myself an item boy,” Abraham says smiling. Alright, why are you guys having the Premiere of No Smoking in Rome…that’s an unconventional choice? “We had invitations from Berlin Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival…but we were very clear that it’s a commercial film. But Rome Film Festival happens on October 24th so it was perfect timing as our movie was releasing on October 26th. So we thought instead of having the Premiere in Bombay, we’ll have the Premiere in Rome.” No Smoking is an expensive film, why do you think people would want to watch a film on such a subject as smoking and how it affects people? “No Smoking will find its audience,” John said with a confident smile.

For someone who was termed as a non- dancer you've managed quite a few dancing hits to your name right from Mehbooba Mehbooba, No Entry, Beedi to now Phoonk De . Interesting? It's fascinating actually. I've always maintained that I'm not a trained dancer. Sure, I've rhythm. But my dancing knowledge was restricted to dancing in a discotheque. It's really amazing that I've managed all these dancing numbers. You know a funny thing happened recently. I decided to join a dance class to learn a bit of jazz and salsa. I was amazed to see that in these dance classes Bollywood dancing is so popular. All my friends wanted to learn what I do on screen. So I decided against it. As for the dancing hits, they have all fallen in my lap. That's how you explain your acting career also, don't you? Yes I agree. I know that I'm hardworking but I'm not desperate. I've never gone to any extreme lengths to get a role. If something isn't working for me then I'm quite capable of trying out something new and intelligent. I know it's an insecure industry but thankfully I'm made differently. I feel very comfortable with the highs and the lows of my profession. I know that I've my own niche and I'm not competing with anyone. Every year magazines come up with these number games. I admit that I glance at the numbers but it doesn't affect me if I go down a couple of numbers. So you don't want to be the No. 1 heroine? I might feel good if somebody puts me at No. 1. But otherwise also I don't feel bad. Work is not the be all and end all of my life. I'm quite passionate about my work but I'm not desperate. Apparently you were offered the female lead in No Smoking , why didn't you do it? I would've done it if I were offered John's part. Speaking of John Abraham with whom you're positively sizzling in the song, what's the raaz of the chemistry? (Laughs) Yeah well even I think we look good together. I think that's because John and me have interesting features and bodies. There's also the comfort factor. But I must tell you that in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal our chemistry is totally different. Instead of oomphy and sexy we'll come across as sweet and cute. These words have never been associated with John and me so I'm excited to see how the audience reacts to us. The buzz is that you've gone deglam for Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal ? I don't know how to interpret the word deglam. It conjures up images of a servant in oily plats. I haven't gone non-glam for the film. It's just that since I'm playing a medical student I'm not OTT glam. She's in a ponytail with her chashma and most of the times she's attired in track pants and jackets. Since the character is not glam I had to play her like that unlike Race where from frame one I'm dripping fashion since I play a model in the film. Is it true that you experienced racism in London during Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal shoot? Well let me first say that I never experienced racism before this one time when we were shooting at a signal in Southall. Arshad (Warsi) and me were standing when two boys started rapping a really disgusting racist song. They went away in a jiffy but we heard the song. After the incident I understood that racism is indeed prevalent. It'll be foolish to deny it. If you speak to Asians living abroad they'll all say that they get different treatment. Racism is a subplot in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal . It needs to be discussed since it is relevant. Is it true that you had a massive showdown with Arshad Warsi on the sets of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal? The whole thing has been blown out of proportion. It's just that Arshad reported five hours late for shooting and we couldn't reach him. He had a genuine problem since his driver hadn't come. I had just flown in from Durban but I was ready at seven in the morning. I waited for five hours. My issue was with the unit that if Arshad is running late then as a co actor I should have been informed. God knows why this has been made into such a big deal. But John and Arshad didn't get along? See every actor has his own point of view of doing a scene. John and Arshad had many discussions while shooting. I think it's great since it helped in clearing a lot of loopholes in the script. There was never any viciousness between them. Ditto for Arshad and me. At the end of the day I want to work with good actors and Arshad is a fantastic actor. On top of it, I'm very fond of his wife Maria and son Zeke. There is no war between us. Speaking of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, are you a sporty person? Yes I'm quite athletic and sporty. But I don't play football; I just watch it on television. I used to play basketball in school. These days I'm learning boxing without the kicking. I can't kick too much since I have weak knees. queen79: отсюда А между тем Бипсе сегодня стукнуло очередное количество лет, пострела на год... Вместо обещанного Абрашей отпуска в Кении, отмененного по политическим причинам( неспокойно в кенийском королевстве нонче), парочка сегодня отдыхает на ГОА, валяется на пляже и обжирается местными вкусностями. А завтра Бипс собирается продолжить, но уже дома в кругу семьи и близких друзей. Мама ей наготовит всяких домашних опять же вкусностей.
