Lo: The Cannes Diary: Day 3: Jodha Akbar splendid visuals By Tanuj Garg (from Cannes), May 19, 2007 - 10:22 IST Tanuj Garg, senior columnist and international movies professional at Studio 18, will give some quick daily pointers in the midst of his busy Cannes schedule, over the key festival dates…..only for India FM Day 3 Studio 18 announced its international venture, Little Zizou to be co-presented by Mira Nair and directed by ace writer Sooni Taraporevala. The film releases in early 2008 and is currently under production. The Cannes trailer of UTV's forthcoming historical, Jodha Akbar was much appreciated. "Splendid visuals," remarked a trade-type. The lead actors weren't present to promote the film though. A kind representative of the International Film Festival of Mumbai was handing out brochures to Indian stand owners and lamented, "Indian producers are submitting entries to international festivals but not to their own Mumbai festival." He added, "We have a selection committee that will select submissions and this year we have a lot of money as well because Adlabs is presenting it." The event of the evening was the India Party at the Majestic Beach, which saw a flurry of excited Indian invitees hovering around the entrance half an hour before the official time on the invite. The music and grub (either there was no vegetarian at all or it had run out in no time!) left a lot to be desired and a few top-brass guests expressed their discomfort to me about a sea of nobodies floating around the party, obviously hustling anything and everything! This morning's trade dailies had no pictorial coverage of the do. Hopefully, tomorrow's editions will! Mani Ratnam, Anubhav Sinha, Raju Hirani and Ashok Amritraj were present from the filmmakers' fraternity. Manisha Koirala (in Cannes on holiday), Aarti Surendranath and Preity Zinta (both in Cannes courtesy of Chopard) stole the thunder with their sartorial elegance. Lo: Трейлер в Джодха-Акбару был показан вчера на каннском фестивале. Никто из съемочной команды фильма или актеров - не присутствовал при этом. (Айшвария из канн уже улетела, а говарикер и ритик не приехали вообще) Все зрители отметили великолепный визуальный ряд. По отзывам в инете, в трейлере Ритик сражается то ли со слоном, то ли на слоне , выглядит отлично, а Айшвария показана в огромном кол-ве драгоценностей. вот.. кстати, драгоценности в фильме якобы использовались настояшие. Реальное золотишко с реальными рубинами и т.д. ждем ролика в нете, чтобы самим сделать выводы.

4837464: вообще меня это поражает... сидит дюжина индуйских торрент-сайтов, выпускает примерно одни и те же рипы, в одно и то же время.... гонит мейнстрим, так сказать, а те фильмы, что едут в Канны - никому не известны. никто их не покупает, не рипует и не делицца. странно? ну взять тот же Аму - вроде Конкона теперь известное имя... или она в 2005 году еще не была такой известной?

Vasanta Balan) - тот же рип с кассеты Dosar (Rituparno Ghosh) - нету ничего Dharm (Bhavna Talwar) - нету idesir.com - то же самое, только нету и тамильского фильма, зато есть небольшое объявление о программе индийских фильмов в Каннах... я думаю, тенденция ясна...

wichy: отсюда Aamir Khan is all set to make his debut as a director with Taare Zameen Par. The film was earlier supposed to be directed by Amol Gupte. However, the story goes that mid-way through the film, Aamir and Gupte had major differences resulting in Gupte being shown the door. The film is a sensitive story of a child and his teacher. And yes, this is the first film that will officially credit Aamir as director. This has been confirmed by Aamir Khan Productions. This is the production house's second film after its first venture Lagaan. A source from Aamir Khan Productions says, "After the first week of shooting, Aamir saw the rushes of Taare Zameen Par. He was not happy with what he saw and felt that Amol Gupte's original script was not translated well on screen. So Aamir called Amol and bluntly expressed his displeasure. In fact, Aamir lost faith in Amol as a director when he saw the film's rushes." Adds the source, "In all fairness, Aamir also offered to return the script to Amol, so that he could make the film for another producer, with another actor. However, Amol insisted that Aamir produce and act in the film. He wasn't ready to go to any other producer. And it was Amol's decision to step down as the film's director. This left Aamir open to the option of finding another director. Both Amol and Aamir discussed various names, but finally Amol suggested that Aamir direct the film. Amol also felt that he would be most comfortable with Aamir as director, as he had spent a lot of time with Aamir on the script." Now Aamir, who always wanted direct a film, began thinking about Amol's suggestion. As this was a very big decision for him, he needed a day to think about it. This was not an ideal way to direct the film, he thought. Yet finally Aamir decided to go ahead and direct the film. The source further adds, "Aamir decided to don the director's cap mainly because any new director coming in at this point would not be familiar with the script and the shooting would take a back seat for a few months, until the new director became comfortable with the script. In his case, the film's pre-production was already done." Another reason why Aamir decided to direct the film was that they couldn't delay the film's shooting to 2007 summer, when the schools are shut. They also had to be careful as the film's child protagonist, Darsheel Safary, would grow up considerably and the production house would have to look for another child for the sake of continuity, if the film's shooting was delayed. Aamir wanted Darsheel to play the main role as he was the perfect choice. Aamir has been known to be creatively involved in his films like Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai and Rang de Basanti. The shooting of Taare Zameen Par is now complete and the film is in its post-production stages. The film will release in December 2007. But Deepa Mehta breezing into Cannes that very day for an even more select cocktail do, was a surprise. The two bonded over one factor: John Abraham. The UTV gathering, mounted with style and precision by Amrita Pandey and consultant Gayatri Gulati, collected an impressive international media turnout at a sit-down lunch held at the Majestic Hotel. The audio visual that CEO Ronnie Screwvala introduced documented the strides that UTV was making, at present and into the future. Screwvala obviously is hands on when it comes to the international bridges his company wants to pioneer. The planned strategy with which UTV is entering both the domestic product and international tie-ups is yielding results. The audience being catered to is the young 15 to 30 years in both. UTV is involved with Night Shyamalan's new film and in talks with backing films with the American actor Will Smith. Screwvala underlined the huge impact that Rang de Basanti has made not only on the box-office but also on the youth of India, serving as a role model for involved action (he cited examples). The film is now going to be re-released internationally in a shorter version under the title The Colour of Sacrifice. He then presented excerpts of Ashutosh Gowarikar's latest magnum opus, Jodha Akbar, demonstrating the magnitude and production values of this period historical film. The director and his stars, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, were not present because of altered shooting dates for the film. Sunita Gowarikar represented all of them on behalf of the film. Then it came to the UTV highlight, bringing the first two stars so far from India - John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. They talked about the coming big UTV release, Goal, now in post-production. Screwvala pointed out that the film was about football despite India's cricket mania. Bipasha said, "The film is essentially Indian in sprit although it is set and shot entirely in England." Abraham then elaborated on the film's story. He said, "The film is about an Indian who plays for an English football team but on reacting to racism and related unfairness, he switches to an Indian team." Both John and Bips were under constant press and audience scrutiny. Deepa Mehta flew in that day from Canada for the announcement of her latest film which begins its shoot this autumn in Southern California. This film will star John Abraham, who had earlier signed for Mehta's projected movie Exclusion, on the ship that brought in the first Sikh settlers into Canada, which is now on hold. Mehta's next is titled Luna, based on the true story of the steely courage and death-defying grit displayed by a young woman consumed with the will to save the magnificent tall trees in the Red Wood forests of the US, supposedly a protected area, which were being cut down by greedy timber merchants. The film's poster says, "On 10th December, 1997, Julia 'Butterfly' Hill climbed a 180 foot tree. 738 days later she came down to earth and discovered she had changed the world". The young lady who chose to undergo this ordeal, Julia Hill, was present. With this film, Abraham makes it to mainstream America, playing the lead in an entirely Hollywood-produced movie.
