Which means that SRK is soon to become a superhero. Sources indicate that the trend of desi-superhero worshipping is here to stay. After the likes of Krrish (Krrish now gears up to fight the demons within in the next instalment) and Drona (this superhero is yet to make an appearance), Shah Rukh and Shirish might just have something better to offer. And we are not complaining. The buzz is that these leading actors — Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and now Shah Rukh — are having a fist fight over producing the best Bollywood superhero. While the Bachchans are working hard at making Drona one of its kind, SRK has also joined the bandwagon with this ambitious project. While the makers continue to be tight-lipped, our sources tell us that extensive research is in progress. Shirish and his team are busy trying to create 'a gentleman extraordinaire' who not only rescues women in distress but also plays a pivotal role in environmental issues as important as global warming, says our source. Shah Rukh, who has been trying to up the quality of special effects at his VFX studio, will be shouldering the responsibility of special effects in this film. He has been working at making his studio truly FX-savvy. In an earlier interview, the actor had highly spoken about the special effects used in the film 300, which is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae (in 480 B.C.) and his plans of taking optical illusions further. Says our source, "Of late Shah Rukh has been talking about an extremely creative film. After much brainstorming he is working in tandem with Shrish for this film. And now I know how tough it was for Bela to cut the material in Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Blackaccording to my vision and according to what was right for the narration." What Sanjay misses are those ongoing bickering with Bela over every frame every scene and every sequence in those four films. But Bela has moved on… with kid-brother Sanjay's blessings. Rulka: Yash Raj Production's Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De India retells the story of former Indian hockey goalkeeper and coach of the national women's team Mir Ranjan Negi. The plot traces the journey of a troubled player who was charged with match-fixing after India lost out to Pakistan in the 1982 Asian Games at New Delhi. Later, he went on to coach the national women's team that won gold in the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. Shah Rukh may be playing a grizzly bearded Negi in the film, but even Negi has a pivotal role in the film. Producer Aditya Chopra primarily wanted Negi to on the sets to assist Shah Rukh and also to ensure that the scenes in the hockey field looked authentic. However, in no time he was handed out a role. He had also accompanied the cast and the crew to Australia where a major portion of the film was shot. A reliable source tells us, "Before we started shooting, Negi sir had spent quite a few days with Shah Rukh. He shared all his experiences and gave major inputs as far as the game is concerned. Negi sir was later given a role in the film. He shot to perfection and film looks good." The source further adds, "For Negi sir ,it was like re-living the past. There have been times when he had broken down. He had tremendous courage as he proved everyone wrong when the women's team bagged gold in the field hockey category." Going by the tradition, the production house has given a gag order to Negi along with the cast and crew members. However, the story-line and exclusive stills in possession of this paper clearly indicate that it is based on Negi's life and times. The eighth annual IIFA awards took place in the 12,000 seater Sheffield Hallam arena in northern England on Saturday night stretching into the early hours of Sunday as Bollywood's biggest stars celebrated their best films of the last year. The film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, stars Aamir Khan, and also won Filmfare's best movie award along with almost a dozen other gongs at the IIFA awards. In the movie, a young London based film maker chances upon the diaries of her grandfather, who served in the British police force in India. The film deals with Indian independence, patriotism and contemporary India. The award for best actor went to Hrithik Roshan for his role in Krrish -- billed as India's first superhero movie. "May our children never be afraid to dream the impossible because ... someone like me could get this far," said Roshan, who also won the gong for the most glamorous male lead. Best actress went to Rani Mukherji for her role in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kahna. The awards were created seven years ago to promote Indian films to an international audience. The actress has given birth to a healthy baby girl, who weighs seven pounds, at 11. 55 am on Sunday morning at Lilavati Hospital. Mahima married Bobby Mukherji in Las Vegas on March 19 and her pregnancy has been under public scrutiny for a while. Bobby Mukherji, who was holidaying with his two sons from his first marriage rushed into the city on Saturday evening, as Mahima was admitted to the hospital before the due date. He is also happy as he was keen to have a baby girl. He was with Mahima all morning, giving her the much-needed support as she delivered the baby. Bobby says, “As you know, I was really looking forward to having a baby girl. So, I am feeling great as my dream has come true.” Commenting on the baby’s name, Bobby says, “We haven’t decided anything as yet. Well Mahima and I will sit and decide her name in a couple of days.” As for Mahima’s family, her sister had flown down with her newborn son’s outfits for Mahima’s baby over the weekend. The actress has been shifted to a private room with her newborn girl. Sources indicate that Mahima has not been keeping well and has been under observation. “Mahima is reported to be terribly sick after the delivery. She is under the care of a well-known gynecologist,” says our reliable source. Bobby and Mahima will move into a new apartment with the baby. As Bobby is an architect, he is looking into every detail of design of their new home in the suburbs. He says, “I am currently busy making a beautiful house for our baby. I am doing up the house very thoughtfully and carefully. The place is under construction and we will move there as soon as it is ready. The baby’s room will be a fantasy come true for children.” Bobby is still awaiting the court verdict for the custody of his two sons. He says, “My sons haven’t met the baby but they do know that she has come and they are very excited to meet her. According to sources close to the development, Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook will be in India tomorrow (Tuesday, 12 June, 2007) to announce the specifics of the deal along with Yash Raj Films’ top executives. As per a report in the Wall Street Journal, Yash Raj Films plans to make animated films voiced by Indian movie stars along with Disney. The joint venture between the two will make at least one animated film per year. Walt Disney India officials were unavailable for comment. YRF sprinkled a good dose of animation in their hit film Hum Tum starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji and the same was also seen in their recent flick Ta Ra Rum Pum starring the same lead pair. Interestingly, in Ta Ra Rum Pum the protagonists are shown visiting a Disney store in New York to celebrate their child’s birthday. As is already known Disney has shown active interest in the Indian media scenario ever since it launched its two television channels - Disney Channel and Toon Disney in India a few years back with Rajat Jain as the managing director. So when are they planning to start the films? “It all depends on when we get the right script. Besides these films, the badshaahs of thrillers are all set to start films for Ratan Jain [of Venus] and Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts. The movie directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who was the screenplay & dialogue writer of mega hits like “Dhoom”, its sequel “Dhoom:2” and “Guru”, marks the return of one of the most loved on-screen pairs of Bollywood- Akshay Kumar & Saif Ali Khan. With TASHAN, even Anil Kapoor makes a comeback to Yash Raj banner after a long gap of 15 years. His last film with the banner was “Lamhe” (1992), which also starred Sri Devi, Waheeda Rehman & Anupam Kher. The movie will also have Kareena Kapoor playing a very glamorous role. Anil Kapoor will be seen playing a negative role in the film. Although, he has played characters with negative shades but it would be his first role as a villain. Director Vijay Krishna Acharya, also known as “Victor”, has journeyed from films to television to films. He became assistant to Kundan Shah on “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa” starring Shah Rukh Khan. Then he moved to television and scripted non-formulaic serials like “Son Pari”, “Just Mohabbat” and the popular “Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi” (he was the creative & story supervisor for the first 260 episodes). But he couldn’t resist himself and returned to big screen while lending his credits to “Dhoom”, “Dhoom:2”, “Pyaar Ke Side Effects” and “Guru”. TASHAN would be his debut as a director. Madhuri Dixit was the first choice for this portrayal, followed by Vidya Balan- but now Preity is doing it. Producer Bobby Bedi is meeting Preity tomorrow, when she will sign on the dotted line. The film is mainly about the love affair between Raja Ravi Varma and a Maharastrian woman who posed for him. Confirming that he and Karun had zeroed down on Preity, Bedi says, “Karun came down from Chennai and he and I met Preity in Mumbai. Preity heard the role in detail and loved it. We start shooting in September. When we couldn’t do the film with Madhuri and Vidya, I was eyeing for an intense performer. I wanted someone who could really act. Preity will do full justice to the role.” The male lead — Raja Ravi Varma’s character — will be played by Madhavan. “Madhavan has matured as an actor by leaps and bounds. I like his acting.” Bedi justifies. Ajay Devgan was the first choice for this role, but he did not show much interest to come on board when Karun approached him last year. Karun had told HiTLIST (August 7, 2006) that Madhuri had some apprehensions about a nude scene as the painter has painted his muse nude. But now those secenes have been cut out from the script. The scenes in question will now be shown subtly and symbolically. However Bedi says, “We are not having any nudity in the film. We are making the film for family viewing.” Says Bedi, “We will shoot in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Most of the film does not need outdoor locales. The few scenes which require outdoor shoots will be shot in Girgaum and Walkeshwar in Mumbai,” Bedi adds. The collaboration marks the first time for both companies to enter a co-production to produce films in India. Each film under this alliance will be creatively overseen by Aditya Chopra and worked on with an inventive array of leading local talent. The first film to be co-produced in this alliance will be ‘Roadside Romeo’, set to release in 2008. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra and, written and directed by Jugal Hansraj, and will utilize state-of-the-art computer animation technology done entirely in India. The film will have voices of celebrities like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi. Salim – Sulaiman will compose the music while Jaideep Sahni has written the lyrics Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Chopra said, “When YRF decided to venture into the animation space, we felt that an alliance with Disney Studios, the leader in animation, represented the coming together of not just two organizations, but the teaming up of like-minded individuals committed to creating excellent products. Both companies not only have a common quest for excellence but also the same culture and traditions”. Mr. Cook said, “Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra have proven themselves to be true visionaries and leaders in the Indian entertainment industry and have excelled in everything they have done.
