The Delhi High Court has issued a stay on the use of the film’s title ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay’. Ravi Prakash from Ram Gopal Varma’s Factory confirms, “The case has been going on in Delhi HC for quite sometime”. There was also a rumour that the film’s title will be changed to Ram Gopal Varma Ka Gabbar Singh. Corny as it may sound; RGV’s self-obsession in the title doesn’t end. But Ravi Prakash denies, “It’s not true. We are only waiting for the verdict of the Court to see if the title can be retained”. It may be recalled that Sascha Sippy is the copyright holder for the original film Sholay and he had issued a notice against RGV for remaking the film without officially acquiring rights. The original Hindi version was of 2.50 hours duration, while the international version will be of 2.10 hours duration -- 40 minutes shorter. Also, the title will be changed to COLOUR OF SACRIFICE. Bachchan is in Cannes to promote Eros International's new film, "Cheeni Kum", as well as to participate in the rapidly expanding entertainment company's 30th anniversary celebrations. "I feel great to be here. The buzz being generated by our cinema is palpable. I knew what to expect because (son) Abhishek had given me feedback about the awesome quality of the Cannes Film Festival in terms of organisation and content," the superstar said. In the evening, Bachchan attended the premiere of advertising pro R Balki's maiden feature film, "Cheeni Kum", in the company of Eros International's Kishore Lulla. The audience, made up of mixed nationalities, gave him a standing ovation. A bittersweet romantic comedy, "Cheeni Kum", on its part, struck an instant chord with the audience. A skilfully crafted film, it bears the stamp of a director who, thanks to 17 years of advertising work, is technically sound and in firm control of the essence of his idea. The film finds Bachchan and Tabu is fine fettle and the director negotiates his way through the tricky tale of a 64-year-old man falling in love with a 34-year-old unmarried woman without slipping up. "There is no real difference between a feature film and an ad film," Balki said. "Both hinge on an idea, only that in the case of a feature you have to sustain your interest in that idea over a far longer period. An ad film typically requires two to four months of ideation and four to five days of shooting. A feature film obviously takes much more time." Bachchan, with whom Balki has had a long association in his capacity as an ad filmmaker, was an automatic choice for the role of the arrogant, acid-tongued London chef, as was Tabu. "I wouldn't have made the film without the two of them," Balki said. The cast of "Cheeni Kum" also features Zohra Segal and Paresh Rawal. Bachchan, who is also the brand ambassador of the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA), said he was looking forward to his visit to Yorkshire, England, for this year's edition of the event in early June. "IIFA is no longer just an awards ceremony. It has grown into something bigger and become a sort of a film festival as well as an event that contributes to important causes." He said he was delighted at the recognition Indian films and stars were receiving from the French people. "Cannes is internationally famous for marketing films all over the world. It is wonderful to find Indian cinema here as well," said Bachchan. "It has Saif and Akshaye Khanna as brothers who are trying to out -do each other." And Saif is thrilled to have finally signed a film that gives him a chance to dance with a new co-star. "I'm absolutely enjoying working with Akshaye Khanna. A new co-star is always fun. Akshaye and I, and Abbas-Mustan and I seem to come different worlds. It's an interesting mix of different sensibilities.I'm sure the results will be rewarding." Abbas admits he signed them together because they've never worked together. "Saif has never been seen in a role like the one he'll play in Race. And Akshaye Khanna too has been cast like never before. But what interests us as filmmakers is how the combination will excite the audience." According to a growing belief within the film industry every star on his or her own spells little magic at the boxoffice. It's the combination that works. Hence Priyadarshan's comedy Bhagam Bhaag held an interest for the audience mainly to see the never-before combo of Govinda and Akshay Kumar. Says Abbas, "Race also has other stars who have never worked with each other before. Bipasha and Katrina have never worked together, or with Saif and Akahaye. Or for that matter Anil Kapoor with Sameera Reddy." Apparently Mallika Sherawat was to be cast opposite Anil. But the pair has already been seen—and rejected—in Ram Gopal Varma's Darna Zaroori Hai. So it's Sameera Reddy now. Abbas-Mustan seem to have got the formula right in Race. "We want to continue doing work that would excite audiences. Of course people want us to make suspense thrillers. We'll continue to do the needful. But we need to spice up proceedings within our comfort zone. One way of doing so is to bring stars together like never before. While Race features an array of stars in combinations and looks never seen before, the new Bobby-Akshaye Khanna starrer we've just shot presents our antagonists from Humraaz in totally different roles. Then we have Mr Fraud where Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan cross swords while Bipasha Basu joins in." Many other filmmakers are following Abbas-Mustan's formula. Nikhil Advani's Saal-e-Ishq brought unusual combinations like Salman –Priyanka and John-Vidya. In Happy Birthday producer Gaurang Doshi has gone to great lengths to get the hitherto-untried combination of John Abraham and Aishwarya Rai. Gaurang agrees the two stars individually spell much less magic than in a combination. In Mani Rathnam's Lajjo Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor come together for the first time. "It's not just for the audience. The thrill of working with big stars in new combination also extends to the director," says Abbas. The distribution circle on its part has tipped it as one of the hottest releases of 2007, and there are at least three major names competing with each other for obtaining the rights of OM SHANTI OM. We have already told you about it and here is the latest. There have been speculations about the probable release date of OM SHANTI OM and at least half a dozen dates have been written about! So what is the actual position? As per our distribution sources and also according to India's leading trade expert, the makers of OM SHANTI OM are contemplating a release in the second half of October or in early November. They just might settle for a Diwali release, that is 9th November. The problem started with Kareena opting out and Aamir getting busy with his other films including his directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par. However, producer Bobby Bedi has been citing other reasons for the oh-so-long delay. The film didn't hit the floors in December last year for reasons best known to the filmmaker. A source close to Ratnam says, "The film is definitely not happening. Even the actors have got busy with other projects." Mani Ratnam is extremely unhappy about the fate of the film. Sources indicate that Aamir Khan wasn't too happy with the final script. This led Khan to work on his home production, Taare Zameen Par followed by Kajri, the Hindi remake of Tamil super hit Ghajini. "There were major differences on the script and other aspects. As a result the film never got started," adds a reliable source. Producer Bobby Bedi had earlier revealed that Mani Ratnam was busy with Guru so the film never hit the floors in December. But Bedi maintains, "The film has not been shelved and we are going to shoot the film at some point." But with my father’s death and my mother moving to Toronto with me, I’m in no mood to apply my thoughts to a script. Luna almost fell into my lap. Warner Brothers gave me a ready script by David Ward and it was hard to resist.” Of course, it was Deepa’s idea to cast John. “And why not? After working with him in Water, I realised what a wonderful human being he is. He brings so much positive energy to the set and is willing to learn and participate. John was my first and last choice for Luna. If I have my way, I’ll cast him in all my films,” says the director, who has had some very unfortunate run-ins with Bollywood stars in the past. Cанджанна: 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' wins top honours New York, May 27 (PTI): Bollywood blockbuster with Gandhian message of non-violence 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' won top honours at the ninth annual Bollywood Awards, showing its immense popularity among the non-residents Indians who voted it the best movie and its Director Rajkumar Hirani the best Director. Bipasha Basu, who is very popular with the young crowd in the United States, was chosen the best actress for her role in 'Corporate' and Hrithik Roshan adjudged best actor for his performance in 'Dhoom2'. For the award for best movie, 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, beat 'Dhoom2', 'Omkara', 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehnaa' which too were nominated in that category. Its Director Hirani won over Rakesh Roshan (Krrish), Karan Johar (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehanna), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti) and Vishal Bharadwaj (Omkara) to claim the award. Basu prevailed over Aishwarya Rai (Dhoom2), Kajol (Fanna), Kareena Kapoor (Omkara) and Raji Mukherjee (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehanaa). Ритик Рошан - лучший актер (фильм "Dhoom2") На лучший фильм были номинированы "Dhoom2", "Omkara", "Rang De Basanti" и "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna". Награду же получил "Lage Raho Munnabhai". Его режиссер Rajkumar Hirani получил награду, "побив" номинированных Rakesh Roshan (Krrish), Karan Johar (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehanna), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti) и Vishal Bharadwaj (Omkara). But, in a double jhatka of sorts, the film has hit rough weather. Adlabs Films, the principal financier for the Rs 45 crore special effects bonanza, has pulled out. Reportedly, it didn’t want to back a project in which Bachchan plays second fiddle to Deshmukh. Aladdin features Deshmukh in the title role of Aladdin Chatterjee, Bachchan as a genie and Dutt as the villain. News is that Ramesh and Rohan Sippy , who were putting the project together, have washed their hands off Aladdin. Trade talk is that with every passing day, Ghosh’s budget kept shooting up. Now, Sujoy is producing the film himself. Apparently, he has already secured Bachchan’s dates. We smsed Ghosh, but he didn’t reply. Pravin Nischol of Adlabs Films admitted that they weren’t associated with the project anymore. He explained, “We are not concerned with Sujoy.We have a tie-up with the Sippys.. if they pull out of a particular film, it is obvious that we would do so too.” Проект Алладин, режиссер которого Суджой Гхош, оказался в очень сложном положении. wichy: отсюда After completing his children’s film ‘Taare Zameen Pe’, Aamir Khan has begun shooting for the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Ghajini . The Hindi remake is called Kajri and is being directed by A R Murugadass, who directed the Tamil original. The mahurat of ‘Kajri’ was held in Mumbai a few days back. At the mahurat Tamil filmstar Surya (hero of ‘Ghajini’) was present along with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi who struck the clapper for the opening shot. Director AR Murugadoss canned the shot while producer Allu Aravind looked on. ‘Kajri’ has south Indian actress Asin playing the lead opposite Aamir. Asin was also the heroine of ‘Ghajini’. The role of Aamir’s heroine in ‘Kajri’ was previously offered to Ayesha Takia who declined the offer for the reasons better known to herself. wichy: Lo : может ну его нафих, этот фильм? Думаю, не одна ты так подумала... и фильм в конце концов реально пойдет нафиг... А из Кунала Капура реально вышел бы аааатличный Алладин. Да вообще из мего много что достойного можно сделать. Фактурный парень.
